25 arrested in San Fran, windows smashed in Baltimore

Elated fans in Baltimore and disappointed fans in San Francisco spilled into the streets of both cities after a tight finish in Super Bowl XLVII. Scattered violence was reported in both places.

In San Francisco, people threw bottles at police officers in the Mission District after the 49ers lost to the Ravens, police told NBCBayArea.com. At least 25 people were arrested, mostly for being drunk.

News helicopter footage in Baltimore showed jubilant fans pouring out of bars and restaurants after the Ravens won 34-31. In the Federal Hill neighborhood, people pulled a street sign out of the ground and smashed the windshield of a news van, NBC affiliate WBAL reported.

WBAL video also showed a fan doing chin-ups on a metal bar attached to a utility pole, losing his grip and tumbling onto a lower street sign.

The celebration in Baltimore appeared mostly peaceful, if rowdy. Police told NBC News they knew of no major Super Bowl-related problems.

Baltimore Ravens fans celebrate in the streets in downtown Baltimore after their team won the NFL football Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers on Feb. 3, 2013.

The flare-ups in San Francisco were a far cry from October, when the hometown Giants won the World Series and vandals set fires, broke windows and torched a city bus.

This time, Mayor Ed Lee worked with police, fire officials and bar owners to prevent a repeat. He asked bars not to serve hard alcohol and to cut customers off when they got too drunk, NBCBayArea.com reported.

“It’s nowhere compared to the Giants,” Officer Carlos Manfredi said.

Super Bowl violence was not limited to the two cities with stakes in the game. In Miami Gardens, the Miami suburb where the Dolphins play, a man was gunned down in a front yard outside a Super Bowl party, NBCMiami.com reported.

In New Orleans, where the game was played, fans swarmed onto Bourbon Street, but the celebration there also appeared peaceful. On the night before the game, a pickpocket grabbed seven Super Bowl tickets from the back pocket of a man leaving Harrah's casino,NBC affiliate WDSU reported. Police were reviewing surveillance video.

The RAVENS won because the REFS handed it to them in the end due to not calling the holding call !!!.......... I would be Upset too!...............The Ref who saw the play and did not call it was most likely either a Ravens fan or was betting on the game or on the take!!............. The Ravens had to have someone CHEAT for them in order to WIN.....I counted at least 8 no calls that favored the Ravens in the first half alone!!!!......... They may be Champions now , But they are LOSERS in the END !!!......Next year they will not even make the playoffs. .........So much for the Birdbrains....NEVERMORE!!!!! PLUS.... R. Lewis got away with murder and antler spray....what a smooth criminal all this makes him!

This is why they need to ban sports world-wide. Everyone is a poor sport. If you win you rub it in, if you lose you say the other team won due to a technicality. None of you are bright enough to behave in any sort of adult manner. Go to any little league game and you'll see the same douchebaggery we see displayed both at professional games as well as on the message boards.

You obviously don't know the rules. Regardless of illegal contact, if the ball is UNCATCHABLE then there is no call to be made. The ball was way over his head and out of bounds.

Stop whining and get over yourself.

Not to mention there was A CRAZY late hit on flacco that should have been called the previous possession and it wasn't, so the refs were pretty fair both ways.

Hope the guy who owns that car has a special "riot" insurance policy. if not he will be screwed. Most " no fault" or "mayhem" polices don't cover damage caused by riots. Even if they cant weasel out of paying, his premiums just went through the roof.

Not a sports fan, Jack. Didn't matter to me one way or another. If one of the Southern states is in the game I root for them but that's the extent of my interest.

It irritates me to read of vandalism following a sports event, though. Just don't see the logic to that.

Yes--Yes, We should all be winners and trophies for everyone even the spectators. No one should ever have to have the pain of losing or failing. What a happy--happy world we would all have. Of course the down side is that we would never get anything accomplished, but hey what the heck. Instant gratification is better I guess.

This certainly isn't as bad as the usual riots. 25 arrested and not much damage.

Ever here of chain gangs? Perhaps putting them to work fixing some of our roads and other things would help keep THOSE bills down, then the cost of incarceration is put into a better perspective. It would probably also help to keep these idiots who don't show much respect for others property in check. Don't be afraid to punish people for their stupid acts. We incarcerate marijuana users, and now it looks like Obamacare may make criminals out of some as well as the "executive orders" on gun control being pushed by Mr. Obama. So we will ALL pay for our prison system one way or the other. Might as well get used to paying for it and figure out a way to recoup those losses.

                                  Ever here of chain gangs?

sorry libs outlawed them years ago.

Perhaps putting them to work fixing some of our roads and other things would help keep THOSE bills down, then the cost of incarceration is put into a better perspective.

And cost Union jobs? ...now that's just silly.

IA - Yeah, you can blame the liberals of many of this countries problems for sure. As far as union jobs, well as we all know unions are declining for a reason.

smitty - You call me what you want or compare me anyway you like it doesn't matter. There is a reason that prison is a revolving door for many criminals. When prison time has a bite to it then you might actually see it less utilized as an option. No need to feel sorry for me you should feel sorry for those that commit crimes and do the time. But hey, since YOU don't like chain gangs then YOU will be paying for this revolving door mentality criminals have so don't complain about your rising taxes in that regard.

Typical SF fans making excuses they got beat Deal with It. Take the Alcohol away from these people and the Violence and Juvenile behavior would stop. "Try Cannabis instead"

Or....and i am just snowballing here.....avoid both and try a shot of reality? seams most people today need more then one shot of it. Ya see back in my day we had this thing called personal responsibility....it was murdered. And in its stead was replaced by a critter called P.C. . it don't work mind ya, but it makes its founders and followers "feel good" and gives a modicum of accomplishment to those who otherwise wouldnt have any at all..

In a plethora of reports on acts of stupidity being documented in this news account, for me, one that stands out is the person who lost their Super Bowl tickets to a pick pocket who grabbed them out of his back pocket. I'm sorry, but WHO is foolish enough to put ANYTHING of value in their back pocket?? I learned at a very young age to NEVER put anything of value in my back pocket...in fact, it seems to me that one need not actually learn this truth as it should be common sense. I have ALWAYS kept valuables (such as my wallet) in my front pocket, and I have never lost a thing or had it stolen from me there...EVER! This is indeed a head-scratcher.

as a kc chief fan I was pulling for Baltimore, however if they lost I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. The Refs did a good job. More penalties could of been called on both sides but the refs decided to let the teams play. San Fran fans, get over it. Your team lost. It's heart breaking but just the same move on. It wasn't the refs fault. Its OK to be upset, hurt, mad for 24 hours but after that life goes on. You have a good team and on paper should of won this game. Good luck next season. I hope my Chiefs at least make the playoffs.

New Orleans is doing their best to not mention that little factoid. wonder why? Bad press perhaps? They claimed it was a power surge from outside the dome, sure it wasn't an overload on the system after a good halftime show ( for once) Don't care much for Beyonce but it was a good show. I dont know what went down but would like to.

And the half time was good. Brilliant lighting effects. Pretty ladies, Whats not to like? Didn't care for the music but it was a feast for the other sense's. I just wonder if it wasn't somehow related to the outage, I don't know i am not an electrical engineer.

Agreed, ScooterTramp! :) I'm a big 49ers fan, but even GETTING to the Superbowl this year was an amazing accomplishment for us and I for one could care less that we didn't win the title. The last half of the game was close and very competitive, as it should be! That's why we have the saying "We'll get 'em next year!"

No reason to get so upset about it, people!! Don't bet money you can't afford to lose, and remember that it's not YOUR fault they lost! (unless you forgot to wear your lucky undies, then it's TOTALLY your fault and I guess you should be upset! lol)
