Snow to bring slippery morning commute for New York

Light snow flurries dusted roads and rails during the morning commute Tuesday, creating some slick spots and slow travel but adding no more than a thin coating of accumulation to the icy residue from last week's storm system in most areas.

Meteorologists say the flurries are expected to be move out by late morning to mid-afternoon, and the sluggish rate of precipiation means accumulation won't be a problem with this storm.

Another wave of snow flurries is expected to move into the area from the Great Lakes by the evening commute, but forecasters say the rate of snowfall will be similar to the one experienced earlier Tuesday and should remain a nonfactor as far as accumulation.

Temperatures stay chilly Tuesday and will cap off in the high 20s to low 30s, where they're expected to stay overnight. Forecasters say Wednesday is expected to be a bit warmer, with temperatures likely surpassing 40 degrees under cloudy skies.

Forecasters are tracking another storm system expected to hit the region Friday. As was the case with many of the January storms, this system is expected to bring a mixture of rain, snow and freezing rain that will likely mean a slushy mix for New York City and light snow north and west of it.

Just like the Simon and Garfunkle Song "Slip Sliding Away", as they head to work in the area! Hope no one gets hurt.

I, for one, believe this article was much too long.

I'm glad nbcnews.com allows comments on weather reports. It's nice to see the occasional funny little comments people make after such stories, as opposed to the endlessly repetitive, completely boring democrat/republican argument that seems to smother the comments section after every other type of article here.

Simon and Garfunkel rule. :D

Now now Mark, I'm sure that ANY minute now someone will blast on here yiping that we should just "ban snow"! Or do a "background check on Mother Nature", or one of those oh-so-intellectual quips. Just you wait.

So now, in one comment and one reply, we've covered politics and gun control. Allow me to save everyone some time by mentioning gay marriage, global climate change, pedophile priests, thieving corporations and militant (fill-in-the-blank).

Actually democrat/republican covers gun control, climate change, gay marriage, etc. At this point I think it covers it all. And its boring. It makes reading the comments section after every article a chore. The comment after mine "takes aim" (ahem) at comments telling people to ban stuff, that implies that he/she is annoyed with anti-gun comments. Note that I havent expressed a particular perspective that I find annoying... just saying that only that gun comments should be after gun articles, pay marriage after gay marriage, and weather after weather. Thus I was pleased to read the first comment referencing, lo and behold, the weather... not gun control, not even global warming... no right/left stuff, just... the weather.

Hello, this is news? Gee it is winter time, and places do get snow at times, and yes it does make for slippery roads. Just take your time in driving, and hope you people stay safe.

A whole inch? Out here in Denver we call that a dusting. The NWS predicts that we might see the development of a fairly strong storm moving out of the four corners area and onto the plains by the weekend. Hope so, we really need the moisture in the eastern half of the state...however, the mountains have received some pretty decent snowpack so far.

I live in Minnesota, they call that no snow at all.

And they use the word, "storm". When did a dusting become a storm?

Why didn't the little bastards just shut the hell up. Piss poor parenting I'd say. When you are at someone else's house a good child would respect the other persons home and behave. The parents of these little brats should be the ones arrested for raising such lousy kids.
