Pregnant prison guard accused of having sex with cop-killing inmate

NBCNewYork.com

Nancy Gonzalez, with Ronell Wilson in inset.

A pregnant prison guard has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a convicted cop killer serving time for gunning down two NYPD detectives on Staten Island in 2003, sources familiar with the investigation tell NBC 4 New York.

The 29-year-old Bureau of Prisons employee, Nancy Gonzalez, was arrested Tuesday at her home on Long Island. Sources also tell NBC 4 New York that both Gonzalez and Ronell Wilson have made statements to investigators saying that the baby is his child.

Gonzalez is eight months pregnant. The charge is unlawful sexual abuse on a ward; it was not immediately known if she had a lawyer.

Court papers say that in a recorded call to another inmate at the federal prison in Brooklyn, Gonzalez allegedly said, "I took a chance because I was so vulnerable and wanted to be loved and now I am carrying his child."

Gonzalez allegedly said during that same December conversation that she "kind of got sucked into his world" and that she "felt like, well, why not give him a child as far as giving him some kind of hope."

Wilson was convicted in December 2006 of shooting detectives James Nemorin and Rodney Andrews in the back of their heads in a car March 10, 2003 on Hannah Street in Staten Island.

Authorities say in court papers that Gonzalez engaged in the romantic relationship from March to August of last year, and that she is seen on video in the federal prison spending several minutes at a time with the inmate in a vacant activity room.

Court papers also say she is seen on video standing at his cell door for "lengthy periods of time while the other inmates are locked into their cells at night."

During another recorded conversation with the other inmate, Gonzalez allegedly said she "just basically got wrapped up in something that I should not have got wrapped up," and described Wilson as an inmate so high-profile that "when he farts it makes the news."

She also allegedly expressed fears about what she would say to her future child about how he was conceived.

"I know what is going to be said about me," she said. "I know that for me as a parent, how am I going to explain this to this little boy? ... Mommy got wrapped up ... And then the opposite end is with a person who took lives. So how do you explain that?"

Investigators first learned of the alleged relationship from other inmates, who told them they could see Gonzalez and the inmate "hugging and kissing" in the activity room.

Another inmate reported that he also saw the inmate standing at his cell, with the door propped open, exposing his genitals as Gonzalez left the cell, court papers say.

After receiving the tips from the inmates, investigators began reviewing video of Gonzalez at work.

Investigators say the relationship between Gonzalez and Wilson ended in August, and that she became involved with another inmate in September, telling him in recorded phone calls the details of how she became pregnant by Wilson.

Wilson was sentenced to death in the killing of the two police officers, but the sentence was thrown out in 2010 by an appeals court.

A new jury must decide his fate. But the trial's penalty phase has been put off as Wilson's lawyers seek to convince a judge that he's ineligible for the death penalty because he's mentally disabled.

I was so vulnerable and wanted to be loved.

First! First to almost puke at another dingbat woman pulling the Female Card. She had a job to do - a job that many women do well - and she knew what she was doing when she went after this guy (what did he do - pull her into his cell?), so STFU about being a vulnerable, unloved little victim!

No woman who is not a complete idiot has sex with an imprisoned murderer!

This is also a crime against the child. Who wants parents like these? The poor thing needs to be taken away from this twit and raised in a sane, healthy environment. What a mess!

This woman is, without a doubt, one of the biggest idiots I've ever read about.

Sleeping with a man who shot two detectives, shows his privates through the bars of a cell, and is trying to get his conviction overturned because he's mentally challenged?? That's not desperate that's just plain old pathetic.

Poor little kid. I hope he is raised by someone else and is never told the circumstances surrounding his conception.

You need a license to fish, drive a car,...

What a shame.

This woman's an idiot, no doubt about it. But slow down on the misogyny and/or bitterness. She's the exception to the rule, not the rule itself and if you think there aren't male guards out there pulling the same @!$%# with female prisoners you're highly naive. Yet I bet your response to that wouldn't be an outcry about "stupid man, pulling the man card". It would probably be more along the lines of, "boys will be boys", which is a straight up excuse. The gender is secondary to the incident, not the cause of it. People, regardless of their sex, do stupid @!$%#. Focus on her actions, as you would with a man, not her gender.

It's,

Of course it is. Duh. ;)

Just disturbing. I feel for the child that is soon to be born. Hopefully he or she is taken out of this situation completely. The guard wanted to grant a child to someone who took someone else's babies away forever. And a convicted cop killer no less. Where is the honor anymore? This story reminds me of the Maury Povich show. And what is to come of the baby once born? Funny how neither parent seems to care. Trash.

This is what happens when you let yourself get too close and forget which side of the law you're on. She's a law officer. She should have kept everything business. I think the media isn't helping by putting your business out on the street for the whole world to form inaccurate misconceptions and prejudice that needlessly cloud the circumstances and the people involved.

@Amused

If children had a choice of who their parents were, there would probably be a lot less kids....How about that one? Oh no, he idiot!

As dirty and disgusting as prisons and the prisoners are normally are the thought of having sex under those conditions are nauseating. Furthermore she had sex with a convicted murderer who will never see freedom again, knowing she was risking arrest and losing her job. There was nothing positive about this experience.

What the hell was she thinking?

Agreed, so long as you acknowledge that the male guards pulling the same crap are also exceptions to the rule.

Yet I bet your response to that wouldn't be an outcry about "stupid man, pulling the man card".

Probably not, since male guards don't usually end up saying, "I took a chance because I was so vulnerable and wanted to be loved ...." On the other hand, I suspect there won't be a lot of women lining up to say she raped him because he was a prisoner and she was in a position of authority.

Denver,

Of course the males who do this are also the exception. And of course they probably wouldn't be talking about their vulnerability. My statement was in regards to what OTHER people would be saying if the roles were reversed, "boys will be boys, of course he's gonna try to get some". Which is an excuse, as opposed to "stupid woman" or "playing the woman" card, which is an insult to all of us.

As far as rape??? That's interesting. He could definitely attempt to make a case for coercion. You never know.

While people here are bickering over why she pulled the poor excuse of wanting to be loved by a murderer, and apparently without knowing about online dating sites, something even more outrageous and offensive caught my eye...

According to the article:

"Gonzalez allegedly said during that same December conversation that she "kind of got sucked into his world" and that she "felt like, well, why not give him a child as far as giving him some kind of hope."

Wilson was convicted in December 2006 of shooting detectives James Nemorin and Rodney Andrews in the back of their heads in a car March 10, 2003 on Hannah Street in Staten Island."

My reaction?

Great! Why not give a murderous thug, hope! Just like he did for the people he killed! And while we are at it, why not give a child to a cop killing murderous thug and spread his lineage to the next generation? I don't see what could possibly go wrong, you twit! My gosh, that woman is insane! I'm thinking abortion might not be a bad thing here. This may seem cruel, but the child of that convict and that woman? I think the world would be better off without it. Still not convinced?

Another disturbing bit from the article:

"Investigators say the relationship between Gonzalez and Wilson ended in August, and that she became involved with another inmate in September, telling him in recorded phone calls the details of how she became pregnant by Wilson."

Then women whine about bad fathers, child-support payments not coming, no respect, and their lives in poverty. Well, just another example of asking for it.

Being a prison guard with a prisoner is bad, but she would be just as stupid if they were both free. She should be banned from any govt assistance or benefits for this demon seed.

Horny woman ... horny man ...and a little bit of time .. it's no different in jail .. except she has a lot of choices .. he didn't!

A man behind bars for the rest of his life would have sex with a cobra if you defanged it .. (the cobra is far safer then most women) and this "She the exception" is ridiculous ... for every man having sex (unless he's gay) there's a woman on the other end of the stick!

Is this story even worth a comment? Who gives a rats ass about these two people actions?

this is a weakness women have, to be less loyal to their group. of course not all women act on it, but its an observation that is valid, just like advising a child that a stray dog is more dangerous than a stray bunny. you see it in the french women who became lovers with the occupying nazi troops, or the vietnamese women who had sex with black american troops. three out of four mixed marriages are white women with black men. most divorces are started by women. ironically, contrary to popular myth, women have always been more promiscuous. back in the conservative 50's, early work with blood typing showed that 25% of the men listed on the birth certificate couldnt be the father. and as women become more independent economically, you can expect most women to be single parents with children by multiple fathers who they never marry. many women are not even loyal to their children, and abandon them more and more frequently. many hispanic girls here in california date blacks even though most hispanics dont like blacks. "papi, this is rastus. remember, hes the one who shot my brother in the school riot last week." there was a prison guard here who was married to a young handsome fellow police officer. she was not only screwing an inmate held for a murder trial, she got busted trying to hire a guy to kill a witness against him. ah, women, you cant live with em, you cant kill em when they deserve it.

So essentially, the tax payer has to keep up the scum bag father, the scum bag mother, and the scum bag kid.

This is why conservatives preach responsibility and for you to pay your own way. We care about the poor, but we're sick of paying for low life losers like these.

The family that ends up with this child probably won't know about his history. It makes me kind of sick to think about. There's some mixed evidence that some people are genetically predisposed to be killers, and mental illness is in many cases hereditary. I worry about other children in the home that this child ends up in. Maybe foster care, where he will have access to numerous other small children, perhaps in overcrowded conditions with parents stretched too thin to fully supervise? Hopefully there are some early interventions in place to get and keep this kid on the right track, but the system is exploding at the seams with kids just like this, and there isn't enough funding in the world to "fix" them all. This is a tragedy for the kid, and for all of society. There's a type of reverse eugenics happening right now, where the dregs of society breed exponentially while those who have their heads on straight are responsibly limiting their procreation.

She's 8 months along; There are almost NO doctors in this country would do an abortion this late & even the few that do, some won't do it unless there is something seriously wrong with the baby or if the mother's life is in danger. The baby would suffer horribly in the process: Saline abortions, otherwise known as "saline amniocentesis," "salting out," or a "hypertonic saline" abortion, are later-term abortions used after 16 weeks of pregnancy, when enough fluid has accumulated in the amniotic fluid sac surrounding the baby. Saline abortion is a type of instillation abortion. A needle is inserted through the mother’s abdomen and amniotic fluid is withdrawn and replaced with a solution of concentrated salt. The baby breathes in, swallowing the salt, and is poisoned. The chemical solution also causes painful burning and deterioration of the baby’s skin. Usually, after about an hour, the child dies. The mother goes into labor about 35 hours after instillation and delivers a dead, burned and shriveled baby. Risks include: uncontrolled blood clotting, severe hemorrhage, central nervous system damage, seizures, coma and death. Babies have been born alive after a saline abortion. In your mind, is this is ok to do to an innocent child??

Loser baby? How can a baby be a "loser"?? YOU are the loser Yus, if you see no problem doing that to an innocent child. Maybe karma will swoop around & award you the same fate you are wishing upon this baby.

Yus, there was nothing hypocritical at all about what bezsenny52 said in response to your ridiculous statement, if you want to call it that. Even people who are ok with abortion continuing to be legal would disagree with what you said in this situation. The mother is way too far along in the pregnancy for an abortion...

Your first comment really makes me wonder if you said it because you are just trying to get a rise out of pro lifers on the board (maybe a dem with a very poor sense of humor) but then your second statement made it somewhat clear that you don't care about children in bad situations after they are born (maybe a repub). Or, are you just a callous, ignorant, racist SOB who has something against a baby with black and hispanic heritage?...

Either way, grab a dictionary and look up the word "hypocrite" and learn the meaning before you misuse it again.

you want to get real about welfare, stop this nonsense and eliminate freeloading babies.

you want to keep them breeding babies with impunity, you better reach in your pocket and give more to the welfare systems

you complain obama is king of welfare and you turn around and say don't kill the baby, that makes you hypocrite (this is repub position btw, not necessarily yours, so i'd like to hear from repubs what is it they really want).

Babies cannot get jobs (unless they are models) nor care for themselves; Therefore ALL of them are "freeloading" whether they are on welfare or not. Eliminate them? So we should put all poor children to death? Is that what you're saying, Yus? Human life can be valued by $$$'s??

Seriously why the hell can't people get over their freaking sterotyping one political party or another??? I'm frankly fed up with it. No repub or dem is exactly as described by moshuluu and others. Myself I'm independent because I can't get behind the sterotype of either party. There's good and bad in ALL!!!!!!! I think people swhould not be using abortion as birth control nor should they be aborting after 3-4 months. I also believe it's a woman's body and choice and each individual should make a completely informed and RESPONSIBLE choice. Society as a whole needs to grow a few more values, respect for their bodies and themselves and be having RESPONSIBLE SAFE SEX in the first place. This particular child is well beyond a safe or moral abortion. The best thing that could happen is that it be adopted by a loving caring family, that neither parent be allowed any knowledge of it's whereabouts, that pops stays in prison for good and that mommy dumbest be FIRED, convicted, forced into counseling and firmly encourge to NEVER procreate again!!!!!!!!!!

Really dude? If someone has broken the law then it's always worth it to prosecute.

Besides, this wasn't just jaywalking, this guy could have potentially been using her for whatever nefarious intentions he had that may have ended up being a stepping stone to much bigger crimes, including the murder of guards or inmates. Don't pretend that this is just "no big deal". If you can't envision the myriad ways in which this could have gone incredibly wrong then you're incredibly naive.

My wife weighs a buck twenty all wet and she's a pretty hot little number to boot. She was a prison psychologist. One of her duties was to participate in shakedowns (male prison). They had her on the team because she was good at interrogating the inmates. Very scary stuff being out in the cell block with an unrestrained inmate.

There was a case that involved a victim close to my family - a young man was murdered by the boyfriend of a former prison guard. She, while employed as a guard, met this winner (in prison for molesting a twelve-year-old) and fell in love with him. Then she enticed another man (the victim) to her house, where her BF shot him. She and this Einstein both dismembered the body. True story.

She was sent to prison but pulled the "I Was Scared So I Obeyed" Female Card and got a reduced sentence. She is out.

I don't think it's a waste of tax money to prosecute this current idiot - if she'll shack up with cop-killers, what else will she do once she has his Prison Trophy?

Not only will they be on welfare, they'll be on an ObamaCare Health Plan payed for by you and me. Isn't it great living in this free county we call the United States of Obama. 4 more years of freebes for those who don't want to contribute to society.

She doesn't have to worry about explaining herself to the child, the baby will never spend a day with her, no way a court is going to think she is fit to be a parent with her incredibly poor judgement. She is truly too stupid to be a parent.

Every prison employee is given classes on the types of things that inmates will do to pass the time in prisons. In general, it's called "The Game". There's a whole psychological culture behind this and it's not limited to being female and feeling "lonely and vulnerable". Some of the things inmates can get guards to do once they are 'turned' is pretty amazing. Money, drugs, cell phones, sex, attacks on other inmates/prison employees--the list goes on.

                  That's pretty interesting, Gator.

Should prisons institute some sort of "buddy system" for guards? It seems that she was left to her own devices a lot. Would regular checking in with a "buddy" help?

Is there a psychological profile of people who are likely to be "turned"?

Yes, it's called professionalism. Human beings have the propensity to become attached. Ever heard of "Stockholm syndrome"? The buddy system exist to prevent just such events, so gator has a point.

Is there a psychological profile of people who are likely to be "turned"?

Yes, there is. The profile can be obtained by giving the employee at test called the MMPI-2. The results of the inventory have to be combined with a series of personal interviews. It's a very lengthy and expensive process. The results can be difficult to interpret. However, having the potential to be 'turned' is not the same as actually being turned, so there are legal implications to applying it to any potential or current employees.

Most well-run prisons do have checks in place to try to prevent cases like these. The problem is that our prisons are so large and the staff are relatively few.

                    The most righteous abortion ever.

She's 8 months along already which would require a saline abortion, otherwise known as "saline amniocentesis," "salting out," or a "hypertonic saline" abortion, are later-term abortions used after 16 weeks of pregnancy, when enough fluid has accumulated in the amniotic fluid sac surrounding the baby. You believe this a "righteous" thing to do to an innocent child?

You don't need to be an anti-abortionist to realize that at 8 months, the baby is viable outside the womb. Abortion at this stage would be murdering a living baby, by any sane person's definition.

Secondly, what you're proposing (seemingly) is a government-mandated abortion. Even more disgusting.

I'm not sure I really get your point: you want forced abortions in the name of saving tax dollars? What are you hoping to accomplish?

what i really want is a coherent answer from some angry repubs on what is their position on supporting welfare and opposing abortion in regards to this particular situation. and please, don't deflect.

Sorry for wasting your time with common sense and decency.

Yus, I am against abortions except in cases of rape, incest or when the mothers life is in danger.

This Woman (and I use that term loosely) is a perfect example of why people should have mental exams before they are allowed to have a child.

We need a permit to have a gun but any IDIOT can have a child.

What is wrong with this picture?

I wasn't judging them, just mentioning a possibility. They were the ones being judgmental, assuming that this child is going to follow in their parents footsteps. How do you figure that's "abusive"??

Agreed; The child definitely should not be left in the care of this woman.

Just because your parents were losers doesn't mean you'll also be a loser. This innocent human being should be denied a loving home just because of who their parents were, Yus? Sounds like YOUR parents were losers themselves to raise someone with a mindset such as pathetic as yours....

Well...actually...it's been shown through the adoption process that biological parents with "anti-social personality disorder" (the medical term for 'common criminal') tend to have children with 'anti-social personality disorder'.

That may be true, Gator, to an extent, but "tend to" is not strictly inheritable as is eye or hair color. A lot of people have APD, NPD, and BPD, but also lead normal lives.

                          @Amused Muse:

Agreed. It's also not fair to the child to be categorically written off simply because of the biological parents.

However, awareness of the potential for issues down the line is important so that the child can be given the best chance in life. Especially, if the problem is one of pervasive (axis I) mental illness--APD and NPD (both axis II) are not, while BPD is.

That precious baby is innocent, please have some character and not insult the baby. The parents maybe complete morons but every baby born has a purpose. It maybe that this precious one grows up to be real special. Please don't judge a book by the cover. Judge by the contents. Some of the comments are very understandable. If you have ever lost a child, as I have lost 3 babies that died, and now my 8 year old son has a large mass growing in his chest, and I might lose him. I cherish all of my babies. Lets all pray that she does the right thing and place this baby with a family that cannot have a baby......................

My mother was raised in a horrible family of drug addicts and miscreants who were in & out of prison (and worse), and she is the kindest and hardest working person I've ever known. She also did an awesome job of being a mom (Lord knows where she learned that--it sure wasn't at home), and one of her kids is now a doctor. So biology is not destiny. I hope this child is given circumstances that allow all good things to unfold.
