Police search mountains for LAPD murder suspect Christopher Dorner, release new image

Irvine Police Department

This Jan. 28 image shows Christopher Dorner, police say. It was taken by a surveillance video camera at an Orange County hotel.

Updated at 8:51 p.m. ET: Dozens of police officers went door-to-door in the snowy California mountains on Friday, searching 200 cabins and other buildings for ex-LAPD officer Christopher Dorner, suspected of killing three people in a revenge-fueled rampage he mapped out in an online manifesto.

Meanwhile, investigators released a new image of Dorner and searched the home of Dorner's mother, who police said was cooperating.

The image of Dorner was taken Jan. 28 by a surveillance video camera at an Orange County hotel, police say.

The search was focused on the mountains, where "it's extremely dangerous," San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon said at a news conference Friday after more than 100 cops spent a tense night and day patrolling around the town of Big Bear Lake, where Dorner's burned-out truck was found a day earlier.

The search was suspended Friday evening, and was set to resume on the ground at 7 a.m. PT Saturday, NBCLosAngeles.com reported.

Police say Dorner, 33, is on a mission to execute former LAPD colleagues and superiors and their families to avenge his 2008 firing. They believe he murdered a retired captain's daughter and her fiance in Irvine on Sunday, then killed one cop and wounded two others in shootings Thursday.

The manhunt led investigators to the Big Bear ski resort, about two hours from Los Angeles, where the burning hulk of his dark-gray Nissan was discovered with footprints leading to two forest roads.

Police followed the tracks until they lost them on frozen ground. They said they have no idea if Dorner is still in the area or if he left the mountain on foot or with a different vehicle.

All night and into the next day, SWAT teams piled into snowcats and armored personnel carriers with snowchains and drove through eight square miles of mountain, checking cabins for signs of forced entry.

"We want to make sure he didn't find a place to hide for the night," McMahon said. "Certainly there has been time to get out of here, but we don't know if he has, in fact, left."

With the heavily armed suspect eluding capture for a second day, schools were closed Friday, though the ski resorts were open.

This undated photo released by the Los Angeles Police Department shows suspect Christopher Dorner.

“There is no panic,” said Big Bear Mayor Jay Obernolte. “We're very hardy residents…and many people are armed.”

He said his biggest concern was that a gun-toting resident might spot Dorner and try to take him on themselves. He urged everyone to keep their distance from Dorner and call police for help.

The sheriff acknowledged that the hunt for a man who is effectively hunting them could be nerve-wracking.

"This business is not always safe," he said. "But this is what we train for."

Ex-cop's mom, sister cooperating
Friday afternoon, Irvine and La Palma police, joined by U.S. marshals, were at the home of Dorner's mother in La Palma, a small city in Orange County about 20 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

Dorner's mother and sister were at the home and were cooperating, officials told NBC 4 of Los Angeles.

"I knew they were here for something," neighbor David Pighin said. "I thought maybe he was coming back to say goodbye to his mother."

The LAPD believes Dorner, who is 6 feet and 270 pounds, has an arsenal of weapons that includes assault rifles.

Dorner earned a ribbon for rifle marksmanship and a medal for pistol expertise in the Navy Reserve, where he was a lieutenant until his honorable discharge last week. Two bases in Nevada and California where Dorner worked were on heightened security over concerns that he might still have his military ID.;

Dorner worked at Fallon Naval Air Station, Nev., from March to November 2009, Zip Upham, a spokesman at Fallon, told NBC News. He also oversaw some security operations at Stead Air Force Base, Calif.

Dorner previously served in the LAPD from 2005 to 2008 and was fired for making false statements after he accused a training officer of brutalizing a man.

During an internal review, he was represented by Randal Quan, a retired captain. His daughter Monica Quan, 28, and her fiancé, Keith Lawrence, 27, were fatally shot while parking their car at their apartment complex after a Super Bowl party.

In the 11,300-word manifesto, Dorner vented his rage at Quan and other police officials and made it clear he had no compunction about killing their loved ones.

"I never had the opportunity to have a family of my own, I’m terminating yours," he wrote in one chilling passage.

The father of the man who was allegedly roughed up by the training officer told NBCLosAngeles.com that he thought Dorner made too big a deal of the 2007 incident by filing a formal accusation.

“He stood up for what he thought was right,” he said. “You could tell by the look on his face he was just a young, idealistic kid, who was proud of the badge," Richard Gettler said. "I commended him first. Then I got close to him and said, 'What is wrong with you? Weren't you thinking? ... It's the three musketeers, all for one and one for all!'"

Gettler called the recent killings horrible and urged Dorner to turn himself in.

"Back then, when he became a police officer, he wanted to do good," Gettler said.

Read suspect's manifesto

In the manifesto, Dorner suggests that he believes he will be killed during his spree, but LAPD Chief Charlie Beck appealed to him to surrender.

"This has gone far enough," Beck said Thursday night. "No one else needs to die."

M. Alex Johnson and vivian Kim of NBC News contributed to this report.

Something strange here...... Who is the real criminal, and is a person who tried to fight corruption, instead being pursued by those who are in fact, the criminals............ Shades of Serpico, of days gone by ...

Ummm... The real criminal is the psychopath who's murdering innocents... so far he hasn't gotten his revenge on a single person who wronged him, only killed innocent victims. The daughter and fiance had nothing to do with his case, nor did the officers that responded to a call and were ambushed. If he got fired for fighting corruption, good on him for standing up for what he believes in. Going f@#$ psycho and murdering innocents in a rampage, not so much.

Are you guys Manson sympathizers too?

It is strange Riley, but you can't murder someone's kid over her parent's costing you your job. That's the part that makes everything preceding it a moot point. This guy is apparently an all-or-nothing personality. I'll bet he's in Vegas now, there's a back way out of Big Bear and he might have taken it before they all got there.

Ummmm.....no just trigger happy. You and I don't get to go all out guns-a-blazin if another blogger gets gunned down so why do they feel that they get to if a cop gets shot? They're not special and exceptions resulting in innocent people being shot because they're black and in a truck is not acceptable.

That is what I am thinking. If he could have made down into the desert below Big Bear he could take dirt roads all the way to Vegas if he wanted to. There are also plenty of places to stay out of sight in the high desert too. That's why it's so popular with the tweakers.

Yes i would say a full investigation into the facts could be in order here, wouldn't you?

@ Tom - Plymouth-3672298

The same reason that the cops beat the guy that Dorner witnessed getting beat is the same reason they shot two innocent people. The cops of LA have a belief system that they believe allows them to do whatever they want. Everyday these cops are affecting somebody's family in the same way that Dorner affected the cop. His actions are wrong, but their actions were wrong first. The only difference is that Dorner is a fugitive and the cops are still beating people like freaking pinata`s. This was bound to happen eventually. I'm not condoning his actions, but the cops brought it on themselves.

I don't think he's a trained sniper.

The marksmanship ribbon on the M-16 isn't that much of an accomplishment. I shot "Expert" in the military, and I'm by no means a sniper.

Hard to believe that they would let guys as crazy as that have a badge and a gun. They need to be locked up for attempted murder for a damn long time. I'm actually quite surprised this story hasn't made national news yet. The LA and Torrance PD seriously F'd up this morning by shooting two innocent women who happened to be driving a vehicle similar to the one in question. In addition, about a half hour later, they shot at MORE people in a separate case of mistaken identity (thankfully, no one was hurt in this incident).

The cops are going vigilante in an attempt to find this guy. He needs to be brought to justice, but law enforcement needs to keep a cool head too, and so far, they're not...

The issue is we have told police they are fighting a WAR on drugs for so long that a soldier mentality has set in. In urban warfare a few noncombatants are expected to be killed in action zones. Words affect how we think about things and telling police they are fighting a war for so long has caused some real damage.

Grover,

What did you check - Sesame Street ?

not stories about Dorner. Stories about the two innocent women who were shot by police this morning while delivering newspapers because they happened to be driving the same model truck as this guy (different color though). About 30 minutes later, the cops shot at (but did not injure) other innocent bystanders.

I have the CNN and Fox homepages open right now, I don't see a headline about this. Perhaps it's buried in some other story, but I would think the cops shooting two people unconnected with Dorner in their vigilante haste to bring him to justice would be big news...

And for the record, I don't think this guy is a hero and he needs to be brought to justice swiftly. But police need to stop shooting innocent people too...

I havent seen any news about the two women shot in the similar truck.

that is absolutely bat-sh!t crazy!

but I gotta say, it validates his freak out a little more...

These cops are proving to be lawless and insane, vigalante nutso's.

I guess if anything good can come out of this shooting, it's that we as a society demand that all agencies paid for with taxes have far better oversight, avenues for GOOD COPS to call out the dirty cops without retribution, and finally break the wall of blue that allows bad cops to keep each other on the force, and shoves the good cops out becaus they are tired of the corruption and knowing nothing can be done.

I know it's not every single police agency across the nation, but I also know that a lot of cities have problems - from big to small - with corruption, dirty cops, bad cops, indifferent cops, lazy cops...

seriously, why arent we making sure our money is well spent and our cities are well protected and served?

Why are WE so collectively lazy and unconcerned, why arent we doing all we can to make sure that we the people are getting exactly what we should out of taxes?

A little off topic but connected - why arent cops drug tested?

Jeff - thats how I feel about our military.

They lose my support when they invade and occupy nations that have not attacked us, nor have threatened to - like Iraq and Afghanistan.

Holding an entire nation hostage looking for people who MIGHT want to harm the US is absolutely insane.

We wouldnt do that to our own people, clearly we dont - we dont go "hunting" for the white crazies who shoot up schools and movie theatres, though we know they are out there and they will strike again.

DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU'D HAVE DONE TO YOU...

maybe the white crazies shooting places up are just balancing the karma?

I don't know.

Our military should be used for Defense, not offense...it takes away all our credibility.

You cant bully the world into doing as you wish - eventually, they'll collectively rise up and destroy out arse. How average joes dont grasp this...I don't really know.

Drowning Grover: First of all, the women that the Torrance Police shot were driving a bright blue TOYOTA TACOMA, which is a FAR cry from a silver grey Nissan. However, the police are ultra edgy right now, and the truck was in the neighborhood where other LAPD officers lived. A lot of newspaper delivery people drive in neighborhoods without their lights on so that they don't wake up their customers when they oftimes pull up in driveways to deliver the paper. Luckily enough, they weren't injured badly, but it's still ridiculous and there is NO explanation for the officers to randomly shoot without at least stopped and asking questions. Trust me, even I know the difference between a BLUE Toyota truck and a SILVER GRAY Nissan truck!! The officers that shot at this vehicle need to be disciplined wholeheartedly by the Torrance PD, and I'm sure they will be. In NO way are the two vehicles even remotely similar!!

As for news stories about this particular shooting....there WAS PLENTY of coverage about this on both Channel 2 AND Channel 4. So, I'm not sure how any of you missed the coverage. They also talked about a black SUV that was rammed by a police vehicle and 3 shots fired into the windshield (even showed pictures). Don't know how many of you missed that.

My only hope is that they get this guy before he does any further damage. Going after the families of officers that he feels "betrayed" him is really "out there." The two young people shot down in Irvine were innocent victims, and he had no valid reason to shoot them other than his feeling that he's going to make someone "pay" for what happened to him. Since NONE of us know the true story about the training officer kicking the arrestee, I don't think any of us have the right to make any comments. In case there is any confusion, he became the real criminal when he murdered the couple who had nothing to do with his beef with the LAPD.

very true, if he had been smart, he could have done wonders to eliminate the a$$-covering and corruption within the LAPD, instead he chose to take revenge upon those that did nothing to him and whose only "crime" (in his twisted mind) was to be related to those he was angry with.

He probably passed the ones going to the burned out truck on his way back down. Also to the rightwingnuts making out the guy is a left winger get a life noone cares right now just if others are safe. Didi says...
"The officers that shot at this vehicle need to be disciplined wholeheartedly by the Torrance PD, and I'm sure they will be."

I bet you cash that they are never disciplined in a manner equivalent to the ignorance they showed and the damage they caused. No way do they get what they really deserve which is nothing less than jail time for being that damn dumb.

Disciplined in a manner that would be equivalent to their dumbassery would be something like having them play dodgeball with actual bullets... so yeah, you're probably right. But hopefully they can get at least a decade or two.

Sadly, they probably won't even be fired. Most people are looking at a lost job if even they even screw up a tiny bit at their jobs, but these morons probably won't even see anything more than being suspended for a week or two while someone "investigates" the incident. We all know how that goes..." We find that the officers were following protocol and no further action is required".

Cops shooting up vehicles that look like the suspects on site with no provocation whatsoever.

What more proof of the "untouchable", "above the law" attitude that permeates police officers do you need?

Call it what was: attempted murder.... the same as would be for any citizen who shot at a cop.

P.S.

Makes you wonder why they are so determined to silence him, rather than arrest him.

This guy has gone over the edge and needs to be stopped with a bullet.

With that said I want an independent investigation (without cops or politicians on the panel) into his claims about the rampant criminal behavior and corruption of the LAPD. Also what is strange and missing in all of this is no one (from the media) has tried to contact the guy that was kicked in the face by officer Evans. I would like to hear what he has to say about that incident as well as this manhunt.

Phew...It took me forever to read all that. I found an uncensored version in another place on the net. I do think that he may have been telling the truth about the LAPD. He named names. I find his political views surprising. FOX news said he was a liberal (shooter), and they were right. His views are actually pretty mainstream liberal. What really shocked me is that he believes in GUN CONTROL!!!!????? Here is this guy who is armed to the teeth with all the big and "bad" guns, telling us why they should pass gun control. He even tells how he legally acquired the guns, which, when you think about it, proves just the opposite, that gun control will not do any good. After all, he got them because he was military/cop in good standing at the time of purchase. Also, it can be said that it is a good thing that people are armed up in those California mountains...because of him, this, proves we need our own guns because sometimes there are not enough cops to protect us!

I wonder where David is, the poster here on Newsvine that understands all that spy lingo. We need a translation since a good part of this manifesto was written in spy.

It is not convenient for the left and the media bias reveal his whole manifesto, this guy was in favor of gun control, he loves Hilary, demand citicenship for Pierce Morgan, shake his legs with Chris Mattews, loves Biden and the said it is oximoron call him honest politician.

From Dorner Manifest

"Hillary Clinton. You'll make one hell of a president in 2016. Much like your husband, Bill, you will be one of the greatest. Look at Castro in San Antonio as a running mate or possible secretary of state. He's (good people) and I have faith and confidence in him. Look after Bill. He was always my favorite President. Chelsea grew up to be one hell of an attractive woman. No disrespect to her husband."

The lead-off comment #1 hit the nail on the head. We're being reminded by the Supreme Being that the actions of a few doesn't always render justice, nor is it justified. In fact, with the background of this individual, he would be incapable of committing the crimes he is now being accused of, UNLESS, he was a victim of misrepresented facts or circumstances surrounding his being fired.

Needless to say, this individual will be taken out, but he has gotten the attention of those responsible for his actions.

We pray that God will bring this to a close soon.

But yet Obama murders a son(Abdulrahman al-Awlaki) just for being a son. Also I may have missed it in this story but the LAPD also shoots up to vehicles with no warning. They claim the vehicle match description, which is a lie as they were different makes, models and color along with suspects truck being full-size and the ones they shot up were mid/mini sized trucks. Something really stinks here and the cops want him dead as he has much to tell. Now folks are saying he has also murdered 3 people but says who? This man set his truck on fire as a diversion. He most likely had a car in the area that he switched to and is no longer in the Big Bear area and hasn't been since he set the truck ablaze. He could have just left the truck there for someone to find at a later date. But setting it on fire means he wanted them there for a reason.

If that is the case he stole a car from the area or someone helped him get another car up there. He couldn't have driven both vehicles at the same time.

So the focus should be on 1) are there any cars missing in the area 2) Who would have helped him get another car into the area.

If not for those two...Then he is still in the area, but I don't think so.

Something strange here...... Who is the real criminal, and is a person who tried to fight corruption, instead being pursued by those who are in fact, the criminals............ Shades of Serpico, of days gone by ...

The real criminal is the guy who gunned down two innocent people while they were parking their car, and then shot two uninvolved, and unwitting police officers, killing one and critically injuring the other.

Whatever his complaints against the LAPD, we don't live in a society where one can file a work grievance in the form of an armed assault. This guy has all the hallmarks of having a delusional disorder; in other words he's nuts, and he weighs 270 lbs, and is and expert with both a rifle and a pistol. My guess is that he'll eventually kill himself, or die in a fire fight, perhaps after killing other innocent people.

    Hey Dorner

Thumbs down: For killing innocent people.

Thumbs up: For sticking it to the LAPD.

Thumbs up: For taking this fight to the mountains (only those wishing to kill you will be in danger and you have an advantage due to the natural surroundings).

Thumbs up: For bringing to the national spotlight the way the LAPD does things ("Shoot first, plant evidence later"- some of you will steal this quote, just remember to cite me).

    LAPD/ Torrance PD

Thumbs down: For being racist, corrupt, and trigger happy.

Thumbs down: For shooting multiple times into a vehicle without even confirming that the suspect was in it.

The father of the alleged assault victim

Thumbs down: For being a hypocrit

I commended him first. Then I got close to him and said, 'What is wrong with you? Weren't you thinking? ... It's the three musketeers, all for one and one for all!'"in the ass

You sound like a confused prick. "One for all..." huh, that's how corruption manifests itself you moron.

But, how that negates the claims he makes and that they should be looked into doesnt make sense to me. We all know on some level that cops can be and are often times dirty. We know this because SOME of them get busted, through their own stupidity - not actual efforts by WE THE PEOPLE who give a @!$%#.

If his female victim was your daughter, would you still feel the same way? I do not believe that a "manifesto" should be the eye opener. Nor should innocent dead bodies. The fact that he went about this the way he did says to me that "he" was the problem, and that he brought his firing upon himself. Because if you re-examine the case, and the LAPD is found guilty of wrong doing, Dorner will be looked at as a victim, and the true victims will be forever forgotten. Vigilante justice should not be tolerated or even considered. He would stand to profit heavily if he sued the LAPD and won, but instead he starting killing colleagues, which tells me he never had a case to begin with. But once again, nevermind the victims, the most important rights are those of the criminal...

Regardless, the LAPD decided to screw with the wrong man. He does have some legitimate claims and given LAPD's track record for corruption and poor conduct, is not all that surprising. Most of the time filing a suit against the police doesn't go well, it requires a lot of money, and you can guess the public feel-good propagated sheeple are all for the "they're cops, so they're the good guys" routine.

It would seem this could be a case of necessary evil.

The kind you wish you didn't have to have, but sometimes to be done, despite the costs.

What better way to punish someone than to murder their family? The psychological effect is what he's most likely after.

So because you cannot win your case in court, you support "necessary evil" towards an innocent person? That is the same logic most terrorists use. But rather than "In the name of Allah," it is "In the name of Justice." And you are saying that is appropriate? I'm sure Adam Lanza thought what he was doing was justifed also...

Cory, The case of Adam Lanza is rather redundant. Lanza was mentally ill, Dorner is not.

You should look up the definition of "necessary evil" and if I did something that warrants this kind of response, so be it. Anybody who deals knowingly deals in corruption should have everything taken. I'm no hypocrite.

I'm sure you're one of the people who despise Bradley Manning for "betraying the country" when what he did was reveal the truth. Truth is a price worth paying for. People seem to forget this all too often. If I must betray my government, I will not have betrayed my country. If you are not willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice for freedom and truth, then you are worthless in my eyes.

How can you say Dorner is not mentally ill? I will humor that, and move forward with the argument. What you are actually saying is that some must suffer to expose the truth, correct? I can understand that to a point. However, Dorner first went after the daughter of an ex- colleague, someone who was not connected to his complaint. Opportunistic killer maybe? If he is so smart, why did he not start by killing the most high ranking people on his list? He would have known that after the first incident those same high ranking people would also be the most protected. Vengence. And then to shoot two officers at a traffic light only to flee, coward. What Dorner is doing is in no way, shape, or form protecting our freedoms. This will be another catalyst for the argument to ban guns, which would cause our citizens to actually lose more freedoms. But surely you took that into consideration...

Honestly, the victims are always forgotten. How many victims can you name without having to look them up? How many people killed by Adam Lanza, Jeffrey Dahmer, Timothy McVey, Jack the Ripper, or any other countless murderers in the history of the world can anybody name? History, or the media, always remembers the aggressor but the victims always remain nameless. Maybe if we did it the other way around, then those who kill to be heard or to be famous would cease to kill and find another way to get people to pay attention.

I'd like to see what Mayor Obernolte would say if the CA legislature has their way with the Gun ban and confiscation bills that are headed for committee and possible floor votes. Chilling to think that you could have an armed cop-killing madman on the loose in your neighborhood and because of the reckless acts of the state legislature, you would have no means to protect your family should this lunatic decide to kick in YOUR door.

They have an army complete with armored vehicles and air surveillance out looking for a single guy because they're apparently very afraid of him. I suppose they think he's the 21st century version of Rambo. This doesn't instill much confidence in the police to have so many be so afraid of a single individual.

Retired detective Mark Furman was on the news earlier and said this guy had a lot of time to plan and is probably long gone from this area, which makes sense.

It's no wonder the government wants to disarm the American people.

Anderson also brought to light that this Ex Officer was wrongly accused. Well if that is the situation I think a Special Federal Prosecutor should be assigned to investiage and maybe he is being framed or set up. I dont know all the cercumstances but that is what its leading to.

As living in New York I know NYPD officers that were dirty and crooked when they were on the job and got away with it. Maybe the same thing in this situation applies which is really sad.

I really hope that its true and this guy is wrongly acccused !!!!

In thinking it reminds of the movie that was out not to long ago with Samuel Jackson and Kevin Spacey

The Negotiator --- was about couruption in the chicago police department.

            Thanks

Cory, I haven't called him a smart man, nor do I condone all of his actions.

My point was he is extremely dangerous, obvious by how he has murdered those non connected and his military experience, blah, blah, blah...

I'm also not sure if he is mentally ill, but as far as I know, he is not. To be honest, most of this makes no difference, he's already made a fool of the LAPD without directly doing anything.

LOOK !!!! IT'S a pick up !!!! shoot it and shoot everyone in it....we'll ask questions later.

Actions like this will only help Dorner, despite his killing of innocents.

This situation looks like a combination of the two moovees: Rambo & Falling Down. But Rambo had no writing skizzles to bang out a Man Meat Manifesto. And D-Fens was an intelligent and quirky little Fu*ker haha.

The trail up in Pig Bear has since gone long cold, in more ways than one. It is High Time for the authorities to realize that 1) Dorner is not acting alone, he's got help 2) he's got his ducks lined up in a row; multiple vehicles, drivers, cash reserves, planned-out places to hide out 3) Dorner's no longer in the Pig Bear region. He's either back in the LA Metropolis, Phoenix, or Lost Vegas. The cops are spinning their wheels searching cabin-to-cabin in a cold trail. They'd have much more luck searching every donut shop in Lost Angeles.

Cops, QUIT SHOOTING AT CIVILIANS ! Scared cops are stupid cops. ID your target before shooting them.

Civiilians, drive with your headlamps on at night ! Why? Because scared cops are stupid cops.

Cops, treat your fellow cops and also civilians with the proper consideration. Don't harass, don't beat up people, don't lie. Or else, THIS situation happens. You cops brought this situation upon yourselves. It was bound to happen sooner or later. And ... YOU GUYS KNEW IT.

OldGreywolf & oytjers that defend Murderers

Ask yourself what the definition of strength of character is, a person's character is defined by ALWAYS doing the right thing regardless of personal ramifications, something that politicians have little of. A weak Character is onme that makes stories, lies and back-stabs others trying to further themselves and not caring about others, you are defines by what you do, not what you say. Doner has PROVEN what character he is made of, and so have you by automatically believing all his self pity & BS he portrays. Read the article, even the father of the person that was "supposedly" harassed stated Doner was wrong at the time. Doner KILLED the family members of those that DEFENDED HIM at his hearing!!!! He doesn't want justice, he wants vengeance for his weak character being found out. He is a coward, he is a PROVEN liar and he is a pathological murderer. What worries me are those that defend him, how far will you go when your weak character catches up with you (murder)???

This guy's no idiot, he's playing the police, the entire state, and the Feds too. He's using their arrogance against them, their not used to being on the defensive, being random victim targets. He intimately knows their strengths and weaknesses.

He's strategically using this against them to systematically wear them down both physically and psychologically; and all the while, dispersing and depleting their finite resources. The truck thing is nothing but smoke and mirrors, he probably paid someone he met while working the streets to dump and torch it. Same thing with his home in Las Vegas.

The LAPD needs to be careful with this too because their could be a public (gangland) backlash. Their not stupid either, they'll capitalize on their resources being over taxed; especially after having already shot two innocents in their being over zealous.

He knows the brotherhood won't let him survive this; it's going to be an ugly fight to the death I'm afraid.

So heal abuse with abuse, is that what you are saying? Yeah, because that has certainly worked in the past. So if you have a beef with someone else it gives you the right to kill them and their families? Yeah, that's a good idea. Maybe everyone should do that? Could you imagine a world where everyone just ran around killing each other just because they were wronged in some way? Or because they disagreed with each other? Man, I hope that never happens....

Reread. Do not read from your own point-of-view. The proper ONLY way to interpret:

When this thing started I told my wife that if there are people out there that look like Dorner they should call in sick and stay home with the shades drawn. A short while later the two trucks were shot up and miraculously no one was killed. 3 new Millionaires but no one dead.

If this thing blows up in the face of the LAPD we are in for some fireworks. No one has the right to take this out on innocent people. FOR ANY REASON. This guy probably fell through the cracks when it came time for his psych evaluation. Some people just cant wait to kill someone, Jody Arias is another.

Whats the matter, you cannot understand what you yourself wrote? You deliberately separate this murderer's actions from his claims then boldly state his words are FACTS (Legitimate)!! Are you a FOOL??? His actions PROVE his mindset, they prove his character and his personality, can someone that hides in the shadows with a sniper rifle to kill innocent people be considered trustworthy?? and you state he has Legitimate CLAIMS?!!! Then you say that by stating this as a fact is not defending him??? I question your psychosis as well!

The only one who says he was a victim is HIMSELF, and look what kind of judge of character he is, he murders people just because he himself couldn't start a family (HIS OWN WORDS). His actions speak volumes on his psychosis and delusional grasp on reality. The ONLY TRUTH we know that are facts so far is that he cannot be trusted, he is is a pathological liar. I can't believe how many people fall for self pity BS, Donser has shown his true character, anyone that wishes to stand and defend him is a fool!

                  He has some legitimate claims...

For instance, accusing the LAPD of corruption, which it is widely known to have, therefore, a truth and legitimate claim.

If you knew anything about thermodynamics, you would know that energy used for work ('action'), although preserved, degrades in quality and increases entropy overall. To paraphrase your example, Dorner's actions have increased chaos and there is no way to return and get anything useful out of them.

Donser's claims are SPECIFIC CALIMS and have so far been proven false, even denied by the ones he was supposedly protecting, y0ou are forgetting Donser killed family members of the ONES DEFENDING HIM!!!! They were ALL proven false at a judicial hearing, do you not UNDERSTAND ANYTHING???? Even the victim's father that was involved in the so called "incident" that Donser claimed happened has stated Donser did made the claims out of spite. Its easy to scream the race card nut you obviously have not been listening, LAPD is no longer an ALL WHITE police force, only 42% of the LAPD are white now. You see there are facts that back this all up by very trusted dedicated (NON MURDERING) people. Look at your hero now, he is (was)a coward, no different than a Jihadist that blows himself up in a public market because someone OFFENDED HIM!!! Your beliefs show you being a very unstable person in society, character is shown by actions, if you believe someone just because he screams "I am innocent" louder than the police, then absolutely everyone on death row must have been innocent!

                            #2.46 - Wed Feb 13, 2013 3:16 AM EST

Ken, and where is your source? Where are these "facts" that supposedly proved his claims false at a judicial hearing? Do you not understand how to actually stay on track and answer my questions?

From what I've gathered from your atrocious grammar and sentence structure, you think I'm pulling a race card. Sorry, but I don't care if his skin color is a white, black, purple, or a rainbow.

And yet again, you make things up. Dorner isn't my hero, I simply stated that some of his claims are legitimate, and I never said I believed he was innocent, I've never even said that he may be innocent.

You make up stories, take my words out of context, and flat out lie about me and my beliefs.

Just like screaming "I am innocent" doesn't make them innocent, you screaming that there are facts that disprove his claims (although you are unwilling to post them) as well as claiming your lies about me are true, doesn't make you right.

Seek help from a therapist or a psychologist, they can help you with your insecurities.

46 years ago I attended scout camp in those mountains. Being unaware that the game of hide and seek I was playing was long long over, and that people were looking for me now, because they feared that I had been injured, I successfully eluded a couple of dozen forest rangers, some trackers from the nearby horse club and a couple of hundred Boy Scouts, for an entire night. If I hadn't snuck up on my scoutmaster and the forest ranger he was talking to about me, they'd probably still be looking. It was easy to avoid leaving tracks, just by moving slowly, and being careful where I placed my feet. That was in the summertime, when the ground wasn't frozen. If this guy is at all woods wise, they'll never find him.

Except that winter time brings snow which in turn makes it impossible to walk without leaving tracks. Which is exactly what the officers followed to find out what direction he went.

Maybe they should just let him escape. In a few months or years, they'll be able to pick him up working at a car wash or something. Just let him go.

There was a line in the story above, where it quoted the statement of a sheriff, that said they lost his tracks in an area of frozen hard pack. It is not impossible to disappear in the woods in the winter time. Anyone who has had the proper training can easily vanish without a trace. Myself, my best friend, my father, my grandfather, two uncles, a brother, and several other current, and former soldiers I know have been trained to vanish if needs be, no matter the conditions or environment.

The department will never admit that they acted inappropriately. Their sole objective will be to take him out so they will not have to deal with the publicly nor defend their actions.

He's a crazy psycho, they better damn well take him out.

However, his claims about his training officer kicking the homeless man - and the injuries consistent with it - should hopefully bring enough attention to get I.A. to rip that department a new one.

Dorner should at least have the satisfaction of having the LAPD blown wide open again. The Christopher Commision will now reconvene....

Men in power, regardless of their race, cooperate within their committee to protect their own financial establishment. But white men in power are the silent aggressors. Institutions governed by white men operate much like the kukluxklan under a modern disguise. White men secretly despise other races often beneath their fake smiles. White men seldom give praises and recognition to minorities' achievements. They are threatened by the advancements of minorities and use the only weapon they've got to destroy their enemies. Launching an attack against a persons character, questioning his psychosocial behavior, ostricizing the person of threat with no factual evidence but delivering the message as if it were true. Its time that we make a change in this country by breaking the chain of monopoly of white men in power. Change is slowly taking place and is necessary. Let this man win in his battle to overcome the evil. Unfortunately he will never reach the high level of dictating white men to make any difference. Casualties are nothing but pawns in a game of chess. May God give Dornor all the strength and wisdom to remove the white men in power. It would be the greatest gift if I could witness the falling of white men from their power and down fall of the US in my life time. One day US will be accountable for all the evil acts it has committed against small helpless nations. May God rain brimstone and fire in this country. I place my hopes in North Korea and Iran for their efforts to remove corrupt USA from its power with nuclear bombs.

                                        D. Appel: How do YOU know the department acted inappropriately? Were you at the hearings? Unless you were there and know the WHOLE story, you really can't say whether or not the LAPD was to blame or whether Dorner was to blame. From what I understand, the victim that was alledgedly kicked by the training officer told the Board that he was not kicked. His sister, I believe, later tried to say that she saw her brother kicked. None of us know for sure since none of us were present....so none of us have any valid reason for making derogatory comments about the LAPD at this point. He also tried to sue the Department twice and both times the decision was upheld.

I understand also that Dorner has previous problems within the Department.....he was hyper vigilent about his race and some people like that oftimes take random comments personally when they weren't meant to be. The police department is a "brotherhood," and sometimes things are said in jest that should not be said because some people are sensitive to these types of things. Just my opinion......he still does NOT have the right to go around shooting innocent victims, and he needs to be caught and tried.

I'm kinda surprised there have not been a rash of Christopher Dahmer sightings all over the Internets. He's prolly holed up all snug in a hideout house in Apple Valley, or Lancaster, or Tohatchapeepee.

I think just about every police officer wants him dead. Nothing seems to get cops' adrenaline and testosterone flowing like a cop-killer.

And it's just possible that not everything in his "Manifesto" is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. He exhibited warning behaviors prior to his firing.

They say they worry that someone with a gun will try to shoot him. That is what the pro-gun people use as an excuse for carrying. Ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines.

Actually the shooting occured around an hour after he ambushed the 2 Corona cops. The 2 women were in a blue truck (like the suspect's) had their lights turned off and were driving toward the cops at the end of a cul-de-sac who were there to protect one of the more high profiled people in his manifesto. They were delivering papers and didn't want to wake people up with their lights

I don't care what their excuse is - shooting at a vehicle without having any clue who's inside should be attempted murder charges. Seriously - wtf - "we thought it may be him so we just opened fire" is somehow ok these days? This shoot first ask questions later mentality with the vague excuse of "felt threatened" is getting old.

Yet sorry i don't see the similarity between a full size pick up picturede earlier with bullet holes in the back, and the small one he drove.

Nurse - his truck is not even the same brand as the women delivering papers, nor even close to the same color - his was silver and theirs was a medium metallic blue. The women were short Hispanics, he is a large African-American. Plus the pictuers of their truck show between 25-30 bullet holes. Ain't no way to slice this where the police aren't guilty of shooting first in an attempted execution and asking questions later. They screwed up.

I could not stop reading this guy's manifesto. You read it and really start to get into his mind…..it can make you feel sorry for him and want to like him, but then there is the poorly directed rage and anger coupled with murderous intentions. If what he suggests in his manifesto is true, I really wish things had gone a different direction in his life. Given his extensive training and motivation, I'm just glad that he is not indiscriminately murdering anyone coming across his path or aspiring to enter a school and shoot children. I wish for the safety of all law enforcement folks involved and their families.

pediatric nurse-1430211: Strongly agree but current actions fly in the face of his self-presentation in the manifesto. If the manifesto is true, he would act differently, I truly believe. He has fallen into self-obsession and lost critical perspective.

                                            His manifesto is psychotic.

No sympathy for this guy... he literally is a psychopath who derives pleasure from hurting innocents. If he was going after the officers who wronged him, it would be different, that's not what he's doing. So, put the rabid dog down, fast.

Maran8th8…..I agree. He's had 3 years to sit in his house, brood over the past, sink deeper in to depression, self-confirm his necessity as judge, juror, and executioner, and then carefully plan out the murder of those deemed worthy of his justice. His critical perspective went out the window long ago. I suppose another question to ask would be if his anger and need for vengeance were so well obscured behind the persona of a likable, patriotic citizen that no one close to him could have foreseen something like this?

Two wrongs do not make a right, simply put. If you want your case heard, get a lawyer, go to court. If you want to be shot and killed, do what Dorner did. He is doing what he is doing because he could not prove any of his accusations in a court of law, guaranteed.

Pediatric Nurse: He IS "indiscriminately murdering" people....he shot and injured a total of three innocent police officers, as well as killed one. They were only out doing their job....guarding potential victims. And, you may even say, if you considered it, that his actions also inadvertently caused the Torrance police to randomly shoot two innocent people who, by the way, were NOT in a car similar to Dorner's. Trust me, a bright blue Toyota Tacoma looks NOTHING like a silver/gray Nissan!

Lastly, if you read the stories or watched the news at any time, you would have heard that he had several run-ins within the Department prior to the one that caused him to be terminated. I think this was just the last straw because the Department doesn't fire someone for "lying"....at least not if it were a first offense. He would have, at best, been suspended without pay for a couple of weeks and given another assignment. He was, basically, a bomb waiting to go off....and his termination was what set him off unfortunately.

: He IS "indiscriminately murdering" people

No Didi, you have it wrong. He has killed one person, and it was a cop. If he was indiscriminately murdering people there would be bodies stacked up. He has it out for the cops and I would doubt he shoots one unrelated citizen unless by mistake or they try to become a hero and take him down

You are correct about the truck as they are not similar.

I don't know at times you sound like Nacy Grace. You ever consider why he had the run ins? When you are a person with morals and strong ethnic beliefs and then have to deal with the corruption of the LAPD...well it's a recipe for disaster

Also imagine years of his life and career being detroyed by the LAPD. These are people that it is almost impossible to legally fight against, even when you have video which he does or may not.

Didi the picture you are trying to paint of him is false, if he had such a personality, don't you think stories of this would have come up from college days, or even the military? He was activated to go to Bahrain, where you have to go through training and a lot of burearcracy in that training environment, so clearly it was not authority or bureaucracy, this is a man who at one point obtained a Top Security Clearance, do you even know what it takes to get one of these? Please clear up your facts and reset.

It is written "you will reap what you sow." When he referred the LAPD as prey and that he was the hunter.........and they were going to feel the way they make the citizens feel................It saddens me in my spirit to know that police officers look at citizens as prey!! You know it is written "vengeance" is mine; said the Lord Jesus Christ; I will repay!!" You see the problem is too many whistle-blowers are dismissed and thought of as trouble makers and liars for exposing the corruption and corrupt CEO's, Supervisors and co-workers where they work!! I say this appears to be what happens when the wrong response is given to those who are trying to protect our Individual Constitutional Rights!! Like Thomas Jefferson said "Give me liberty or give me death!!" I guess this brother is the only one who is willing to die to protect our Constitutional Individual Rights!! Just my thoughts!!

Chris: Being a retired military officer, we do NOT take an oath to fight against corruption. We do take an oath to protect the Constitution of the United States. No where in the oath that you take when you enlist does it say anything about fighting corruption. If you have NO idea what you're talking about....don't say it!

As for the rest of your comment, you're really uninformed! California is NOT the most corrupt place to live (you're probably thinking Detroit or maybe Chicago). I've lived here all my life, and I wouldn't live anywhere else! So, unless you live here yourself, and I doubt it, you again have nothing to say.

And, for those of you who seem to think this guy is some sort of a "hero," you all need to have your values reviewed! This man is a coward.....shooting innocent victims because he feels he was erroneously terminated from his job is not the way a rational person does things! He is NOT a hero in any sense of the word! If he were a sane individual, he'd turn himself in and face the music....instead, he'll probably commit suicide by cop.

Didi, you are a coward. It's the "rational" American who is often a coward, a socially indoctrinated zombie. He is a hero, a VET, an exCOP and a stand up citizen to stood up against corruption. Yes, his ways might be unorthodox, but you liked Rambo? So what is so different with this story?

It was a MOTHERFUC@#$ FICTIONAL MOVIE ASSH@$^%! Goddamnit! I enjoyed 007 and the Avengers, too, but I would be pretty pissed if that actually happened and those people came and started F@#$ up my sh!@#$! Not even Rambo ambushed and killed random innocent people.

By the way, calling actual military officers (which is different from Reservist, by the way) cowards shows what a fu#ktard you are.

His ways are unorthodox... yes killing innocent people in cold blood is unorthodox. You know what else would be unorthodox? If you lobotomized yourself! I know it's not the normal way to handle things, but hell, maybe it's just crazy enough to work!

@ didi - I lived here all my life too, and from what I have seen it's all about who you know and not what is in the best interest of the people! I have seen many cops do only what they want, when they want and let other people doing the same crime go!!!! As for the victims, I guess those reporters that those cops shot up should be tried for murder then right?

Isn't that how most Revolutions are started, even our Revolution, a few man willing to kill and die for a just cause, for their rights...why are the Revolutionists now? Cowering under their beds.

And btw the person killed was the daughter of the lawyer who took his case, supposedly was to defend him, but was a retired Captain who was in Cohoots with the Chief. Revenge is against someone the person cares for, not the person, when you die, what pain do you feel? But when you are forced to live with the pain of knowing your deeds was the reason someone killed your loved one, now that is pain.

Today57, you're saying that you think that revenge by killing an innocent is justified here? Please give yourself a vasectomy with a rusty metal spork.

Also Revolutionists? What horse@!$%#! Dumbass, this guy is mentally deranged, if you want to follow one of those guys to your death, be our guest, join a cult and drink some kool-aid. Jackass.

Yeah Travis and if the cops could shoot worth shlt we would have what 5 more dead people due to there carefree attitude of shot first worry(not) later. Don't give me the crap like the cops did not kill anyone as they damn well tried their best. Also who convicted him of murder? Oh that's right right the media said he may be responsible so did the cops so in your mind he must be.

So glad you feel everything in this country is hunky dory, also glad that you are also a keyboard psychologist or psychiatrist and deemed him deranged.

Today57 never justified anything that person explained who the person killed was and MAYBE why they were killed. I say maybe why they were killed because there was no trial. But just like Obama I see you deem people quilty without due process and want them killed

Read this man's manifesto. He's angry - but he's not crazy. He wants credible outsiders to investigate the LAPD and his case. He has clearly accepted that he will die a murdered, but he didn't want to live as a liar and is resolved that this is the only way to get someone to pay attention. It's working! It's sad and wrong all the way around. But I am from the greater Los Angeles area and no matter who you are (Rich, poor, young, old, Republican, Democrat, White, Black, Hispanic, gun control, or right to bare arms) you know LAPD is corrupt. Bottom line . . . OJ Simpson went free . . . not because the prosecutors were bad or because his Dream Team was so good . . . it was because the community does not trust the LAPD. The shooting in Torrance of a vehicle that suspected to be Dorner is LAPD is a perfect example of LAPD street justice.

I'm sorry he feels wronged in the past, but his decision to take innocent people lives is unacceptable. Do the police not have blood hounds looking for him? Seems to me as soon as I discovered the truck and footprints, the dogs would be called in and this would be over by now. After killing these people including the officer, he will not be taken alive and I think if he's not caught and killed, he will be found in a few months by a group of hikers with a self inflicted hole in his head.

I think he's too pissed off to do himself in. He will die in the end, but he's taking a few bad cops with him.

At this point, I wish other good cops in the LAPD would step up and speak out on behalf of this guy - even if they have do to so anonymously. This fiasco cannot get swept 6 feet under along with this poor @!$%#. In a weird way I'm rooting for him ... and I'm fully aware of how nutty that sounds. I must admit I shed a tear when I got the part of his letter (I refuse to call it a manifesto) where he is bidding farewell to his friends.

Is this manifesto only on the Internet? Was it written on the Internet only? How does anyone even know that he wrote it? Anything and everything is on the web these days and to paraphrase an old friend" If you only sign it on a computer, with a typed signature, how am I going to know that it's is really you?" Anything on any computer can be hacked and rerouted and otherwise messed with... Did we know what Dorner's signature really looks like? I really distrust the media to really publish the truth these days. When one of my best friends gets so disgusted with the news that she follows the Arab stations it goes to show that the media needs to get better at reporting the Truth.

You are paranoid. Obviously, the cops believe the manifesto too as they sent out forty details to protect the people on the list. Also, he shot two cops while trying to get to one of the families being protected. Duh. You haven't even read the manifesto. Who knows that much about his life except him? This information is easily verified and will be verified.

Im not saying everyone will pull the trigger but it sure seems people 'flip out' when the real world crashes down on them and the illusion isnt what they thought. this isnt politically biased just what i see in todays society.

Well, when you have a gun for every American citizen these things are the result. Many people are stupid or mentally ill; and given a gun many kinds of tragedy occur. Get used to it. The U.S. has more guns per capita than any country in the world. Know who is a distant second? Yemen.....and we declared them a terrorist nation. What does that make us?

If he cant find a gun dont you think home explosives would be an option? are you going to ban bleach, etc?

People with paranoid delusions don't bother letting the real world interfere with those delusions. They just explain away reality, with more delusions. The claims of excessive violence that he made against the training officer were no doubt highly exaggerated and motivated by his being convinced that the training officer was out to get him and that he had better get rid of the training officer first. It blew up in his face. That of course is not his fault, it's due to a giant conspiracy.

Just like all of the other recent horror stories in which guns were involved, this is not a gun problem, this is a mental health problem.

My mother used to tell me that you're only a victim if you allow yourself to be one! Apparently, he was hyper-vigilent about anything that he perceived was about him. Since I don't know him, and I don't know what he went through, I'm only guestimating. Some people are like that....I encountered a few in the military. You had to watch everything you said around them because they would always take it personally. Some people you just CAN'T joke around with, even innocently.

He is probably behind them lining up a kill shot. He has training has motovation and he don't care anymore. that makes him very dangerous to the police. the police are the danger to civilians. He more than like has been planning this for a while his manafesto is clearly written by a man on the brink of a breakdown. And yes I read the whole thing I highly recommend the unedited version.

I wonder if he ditched his vehicle in order to take another car he already had stashed, in order to hide in the mountains thinking he can hunt cops better there, or in order to make the law think he's in that area while he heads back to L.A. and kill more cops. He burned the vehicle and I think if he didn't want it noticed he would have just parked it in a Walmart parking lot somewhere.

The fact that you display your bigotry sickens me. Hateful racist. I hope that "black bastard" shoots you. Then, hopefully, you will learn to respect other humans, regardless of race.

NBC get your facts straight : "They believe he murdered a retired captain's daughter and her fiance in Irvine on Sunday, then killed one cop and wounded two others in shootings in Torrance and Chino on Thursday."

It wasn't him who shot the two innocent persons in Torrance just because they drove a truck with no lights. I smell a lawsuit! Get rid of cops, replace them withBoy Scouts!

Boyzone: You need to get your OWN facts straight. If you actually READ the article, you'd know that he did wound two other police officers, and I believe that two of them WERE in Torrance and the others in Chino. This is why the Torrance PD officers were so edgy and accidentally shot at a truck driving with no lights.....I'd be a little nervous myself if I had had two officers from my department shot indiscriminately and then saw a vehicle (which, by the way, was NO WAY near looking like Dorner's vehicle) driving down the street with no lights....especially a neighborhood with other LAPD officers living in it. Still, no excuse for the Torrance officers to shoot at this vehicle, and I'm sure they will be disciplined quite severely.

Oh right - we accidentally shot this other vehicle.

It was not the same make, model or color and the vehicle had dozens of rounds fired into it.
                                                    Accident ? get real.

Trigger happy cops - they are everywhere, and they kill without remorse.

Ignorant people shouldn't be allowed to write here. It was early in the morning. In other words DARK. Color could not be distinguished. They were driving slowly down the street, with their lights out. That is suspect. Maybe they should have waited, or maybe you should take their place, and see how you would handle this. But if you choose to do the latter, get plenty of life insurance.

"Geese another Hypocrite"? Spelling checkers will teach you a lot if you let it. Even a dictionary would be better than making your self look like a fool. "What makes it so sad is a ton of people by all of the smoke being blow," what are you talking about?

                                                    Confused, post 25.5:

Geese another hypocrite!!!!!! If you are going to talk bad about some one, call them names, and then point out that they should use spell check and talk down to them like you are above them, maybe, just maybe, you should learn a little grammar so that you do not look like such a MORON!!!!!!

We do not by anything but, we do buy into your making yourself out to be a FOOL!!!!!!

One last thing, for your information it turns out that the ex cop is a lib and a big obama fan!!!!

Garrie, if you had read his most more carefully, you'd realize that Confused was quoting High Rolla, not using his own words. The words, "What makes it so sad is a ton of people by all of the smoke being blow,", were posted by High Rolla.

While I don't make a constant habit of pointing out grammatical and spelling errors in other people's posts, High Rolla's posting would embarrass an eighth grader in almost any school in the nation, or so I should hope, and his ideas are even more malformed than his sentences.

The politics of this man are immaterial. Maybe he is an ardent liberal, just as Jimmy Lee Dykes, the recent hostage taker in Alabama, was evidently an arch-conservative. But what both cases have in common is that the perpetrators most likely are, or were, bat sh!t crazy.

That's it. It has nothing to do with who is President, Governor, or Speaker of the House. Nothing.

Why do so many people try to turn stories like this one into a matter of politics?
