Subscribe to RSSA Riverside jury on Friday found a local school board member guilty of 23 felonies related to a prostitution operation he ran out of his Moreno Valley home.
Mike Rios, 42, had been free on $500,000 bail but was immediately taken into custody and booked into the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside.
He was convicted of rape, pimping, pandering and other counts related to six victims, including two underage girls.
In seeking women to work as prostitutes, Rios told one woman he was a member of the Moreno Valley school board and asked if she wanted a job, according to the according to the Riverside County District Attorney's Office. To an underage girl, Rios offered the use of his Hummer if she would work for him, the DA's office said.
Rios was also convicted on charges related to filing a false insurance claim after a vehicle collision.
He had testified this week that he had only wanted to run a strip-tease service, not a sex service.
He testified about his arrangement with a stripper named Valery, who lived in his home and had use of his cars in exchange for helping pay the bills.
Valery, 20, testified that Rios "basically wanted to gather together some girls and sell them."
"He said he needed to raise money because he wanted to be something bigger in the district," Valery said. "He told me what I could do for men."
The jury of eight men and four women found Rios guilty of one count of rape, 12 counts of pimping, six counts of insurance fraud and five pandering counts.
Rios had originally faced 35 charges, but a judge reduced those to 26. Rios was found not guilty of one count of rape. The jury hung on a third count of rape and a pandering charge.
His sentencing hearing was set for March 8, but that could be postponed pending the outcome of a separate trial in which Rios is facing two counts of attempted murder, as well as assault with a deadly weapon and influencing testimony by bribe. The next hearing date in that case is April 12.
That case, involving a February 2012 shooting outside Rios' home, prompted the investigation that uncovered the sex business.

It's an easy stretch. School boards have been prostituting themselves to teacher's unions for decades.
I have said it before and I will say it again. The catholic church pales in comparison to the dept. of education in raping children. Attending church is voluntary but attending school is mandatory for your child.

The prostitution may extend from religious to nursing, e.g. CA. It is very sad, when the Sexually Transmitted Diseases are rising exponentially. No wonder people hardly smile anymore . . .
I can only hope that Mr.Rios spends life in prison so that he cannot inflict anymore harm upon young women.If Valery,his stripper roommate helped him or even considered helping him procure young women then I would deem her a danger to society as well.
How is trading money for sex harming anyone?
Trading sex for money has many negative consequences. First, it spreads diseases, including among the unsuspecting from unfaithful partners. Second, it promotes turning a person into just an object meeting the gratification for another. instead of a whole person. Stripping the intimacy associated with sex, from the act itself. Encouraging such constant views, as research has found.
It promotes unfaithfulness. Harms the trust of spouses/companions, and devastates the relationship, causes breakdown in stability of support in families, leads to divorce. With shattered lives, children without one parent.
Such unfaithful spouses even affect their local communities, when in political positions. For if they are willing to violate the most important covenant in their life, to someone they love, knowing they risk harm to innocent companion and children, then surely no one is important enough, for them to forfeit personal desires. Certainly not anyone in the communities they serve. Especially when interest groups offer to support them or given bribes.
Sex for money, is not victimless, nor without harm as studies and stats have shown.Even if made legal. As judged by so many serving prison time, shattered lives, burdens to society in community support programs, the medical community and law enforcement statistics, including abuse, assault and murder.Oh, and given the rise of new strains of super STD's for which there is now no longer any cure, it should really make people step back and think Because once you get one of these, there is no going back. These new strains are awful, and unstoppable.
The sales of sex between consenting adults should not be treated as a crime. In many Western nations, the sex trade is legal so long as it is between consenting adults; no exploitation due to unequal bargaining power; or physical harm to either participants.
Professional sex traders take greater precaution against STD than the casual one-night stand person as a clean bill of health foster business longevity.
At one time, the status quo condemned the sex trade because of the likelihood of producing unwanted children and proliferation of STD. While not 100% successful at preventing unwanted children and STD, modern birth-control methods and prophylactis(sic) have achieved extraordinary standards.
In the USA, the law enforcement agencies, religious organizations, and government oppose the legalization or decriminalization of sex trade because either their raison de etre will vanish, or lose their justification for additional tax money or bypass the tax collection system.

You appear quite uneducated regarding the sex trade. While sex workers MAY be frequently checked for diseases in areas where prostitution is legal, no one considers that the customers are NOT checked at all. Every time, literally EVERY TIME a prostitute takes a customer they risk contracting an STD. There is no such thing as 100% effective prophylactic, and not all diseases are spread simply by genital contact.
Taxes collected by the cities in USA have absolutely no connection to the sex trade - there are plenty of illegal activities to keep police occupied and worth the money spent on them by the cities. The ACTUAL police / prostitution connection only appears where prostitution is LEGAL, such as in Japan, where sex club owners pay registration fees to the police to keep from being raided!

The fact there are now STD's that are completely incurable, is truly frightening.Since people become infectious without any initial symptoms. Especially for women, who only show symtoms in the late stages of the diseases. It produces sterility for both sexes, leads to complications in pregnancies,babies born will have it, leading to death, other complications for both sexes, leading to mortality. Then there is that question, once infected, and people find out, how do you stop them from ever having sex again?
It seems if man isn't going to be faithful to one person, nature is finally selectively labeling those who aren't. We have only ourselves to blame. Truly rewarding faithfulness and commitment.
