Subscribe to RSSA Confederate battle flag flew atop a state building in Mississippi for a couple hours after workers mistakenly bought it, a state spokeswoman told the Clarion-Ledger newspaper.
The flag was put up on the state Supreme Court building in Jackson about 2 p.m. Friday and taken down by 4 p.m.
Kym Wiggins, public information officer for the state Department of Finance and Administration, gave this account, the Clarion-Ledger said:
Workers went to a local vendor to buy new flags to replace a state flag that was torn. They were given two boxes labeled "Mississippi State Flag" -- but the flags inside were Confederate battle flags. A maintenance worker then put up the flag, and the mistake wasn't noticed for a couple of hours.
Wiggins described the incident as "highly unusual."
A professor emeritus of political science at the University of Southern Mississippi gave the Clarion-Ledger a different take. "Have we seceded already?" said Joseph Parker. “The execution is faster than I thought.”

Understand that the civil war or war between the states, however you care to call it, was lost by the confederacy, this is accepted I would venture by 95% or more of the people living in the south (yes there are a few that to this day who just don't get it). But before you try to exercise the splinter from our eye, please remove the plank from yours. I have lived in the south (born), north, east coast, west coast and have seen racism, bigotry, discrimination, and down right hatred of others (prejudice) in all places that I have lived. Southern heritage is much more than just the civil war, it is a way of life living and unless you have at least studied or lived it you just don't get it. We are not all single tooth, moonshine drinking, uneducated repubtards (sorry, one word I have seen far too often to describe a political tenant). Most are well educated (but we do let our redneck side through from time to time) and work hard for what the have, and don't give a second thought to assisting others in need. It is something you have to experience by living it daily.
So get off your high horse about someone flying the confederate battle flag (probably the confederate navy jack because they do not know the difference between the two). It needs to be kept as a symbol until all slavery is abolished, and yes it still exists in the world today and in many forms.
I don't give a crap about your traitorous heritage.

1) How do you know I have a "traitorous heritage", have you personally studied me, obviously not or you would have known that my family line supported the Union during the war and not the confederate cause.

Unfortunately I have lived the southern experience for 69 years the majority of the people are very backwards.
Is Ackerman in Choctaw County Mississippi enough of the southern experience? Too much for me. Then I ended up in north Texas where the civil war was fought until the 1870's.

A state wanting to secede from the voluntary union that is these United States of America is no more treasonous than a married person wanting to leave their cheating spouse.
The ideal of secession was widely supported by the founding fathers and was firmly reinforced in Jefferson's inauguration speech.
How do you come to the conclusion that such and action would make someone a traitor? Do yourself and the rest of us a favor and read the Constitution. Then, maybe, you may begin to understand where the disdain came from in the 1860's and where it continues to come from today.
While berating southern whites for owning slaves you need to remember, in many cases it was black Africans in Africa who sold other black Africans into slavery, so there's plenty of blame to go around.

But I ask you Southerners, can you also try to understand what that same piece of cloth, one like it, or a burning cross, might mean to the grandson of slaves, or the 67 year old son of a mother who was slapped and almost raped by a 79 year old white man that she cleaned toilets for, as a 16 year old child, in Northeast Texas. For a Southerner to be denigrated by someone who may never have set foot in the State of Mississippi, please know that I get it! I can't help but understand how that makes you feel. But can you understand what might go through someone like me, like heat from a hot coal, when I read "get over it", on the Vine, or see a picture of that flag waving at a racist rally, not 100 years ago, but just last week, in downtown Memphis Tennessee? The Confederate Battle flag is a symbol of the Southern secession. I do understand and don't disagree that one of the factors driving the secession was slavery but to live with the misconception that the secession was one dimensional is preposterous. To try to wrap all of those dynamics into a title such as "racism" is just plain ignorant.
Check your history Sunset, the Republican party was one of the driving factors of the Southern secession. Not because the Republicans wanted to secede, but because of the fear of the havoc that the Republican party would wreck on the Southern economy. Remember? Lincoln was the first Republican president.
