Subscribe to RSSA Confederate battle flag flew atop a state building in Mississippi for a couple hours after workers mistakenly bought it, a state spokeswoman told the Clarion-Ledger newspaper.
The flag was put up on the state Supreme Court building in Jackson about 2 p.m. Friday and taken down by 4 p.m.
Kym Wiggins, public information officer for the state Department of Finance and Administration, gave this account, the Clarion-Ledger said:
Workers went to a local vendor to buy new flags to replace a state flag that was torn. They were given two boxes labeled "Mississippi State Flag" -- but the flags inside were Confederate battle flags. A maintenance worker then put up the flag, and the mistake wasn't noticed for a couple of hours.
Wiggins described the incident as "highly unusual."
A professor emeritus of political science at the University of Southern Mississippi gave the Clarion-Ledger a different take. "Have we seceded already?" said Joseph Parker. “The execution is faster than I thought.”

Mississippi should just go back to the Magnolia Flag that it actually did use during the Antebellum period, right through the Civil War, and unti 1891, when state legislators decided that it was more important to commemorate the idea of high treason rather over the state's own heritage. It's actually a nice looking flag, and there's not way it could be confused for the Confederate Battle Flag.

Well.. I'm certainly free to suggest it, which I do in good faith. Hey, if y'all want a reminder of disgraceful treason every time you look at the your state flag, by all means, keep the current flag. I'm just saying that there is a very good alternative available.

Hahahaha. Funny . I lived in that $hithole for 20+ years. When it went over 50% black then it went down the crapper quick. Crime,slums, major business's moving out to smaller towns like Clinton,Ridgeland,Madison. Tax base left. Jackson Mall lost its retailers and closed,then Metro became a ghost town now they're working on running down the NorthPark Mall. Its probably now 90% black or more. They even renamed the Jackson Municipal Airport after the black mayor. Just a awful place now with what was very nice neighborhoods turning to crime ridden slums. Like a cancer it was. You can say I'm racist if you like, but I call it like I see it and it is what it is. The truth hurts and I'm glad I left that place.

The Mississippi State flag has the Confederate Battle flag inside of it. I can see the mistake.
But it was probably just a bunch of lazy state workers that wanted to go on break rather than ensure that the flag was raised correctly.

They have not had the battle flag as part of the state flag for several years now.
Mississippi still incorporates the battle flag in one canton... several other states voted to get rid of their's.
Maybe when the country collapses under Obama we can raise that flag permanently.

11madness, The "republic" in the California flag symbolizes our freedom from Spanish, followed by Mexican, tyranny. The Fremont revolt, which that flag stands for, was pro-US from the beginning. The "republic" was simply the device that enabled my ancestors to throw out Santa Ana and join the United States.
It should not be displayed. It represents an entity that is not relevant. The flag should not incorporate a political entity that is not part of the United States. Pretty simple....just like your silly argument.
