A couple walks through Prospect Park in New York on Monday as the Northeast began returning to work after being hit by a massive winter storm. Another severe storm could be on the way this weekend, but forecasts are mixed.
Even as it recovers from a punishing snowstorm that buried much of New York and New England, the Northeast could be in for more snow, according to meteorologists.
A system forecast to bring snow, heavy in places, to parts of the Southern Plains and Mid-Atlantic may veer northeastward Wednesday and give a fresh dusting to already-covered states. And yet another winter storm is possible for the coming weekend, though there is less confidence that it will, said Weather Channel meteorologist Tom Moore.
As of Tuesday morning, the storm had an area from the Texas Panhandle to central Oklahoma in its sights.
A winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service cautioned that 6 to 9 inches of snowfall was likely in central and eastern parts of the Texas Panhandle and parts of Oklahoma, with travel becoming hazardous. That warning was scheduled to remain in effect until 9 p.m. ET Tuesday.
Forecasters say the storm will move through the Appalachians and the Mid-Atlantic on Wednesday, then turn slightly toward the Northeast, generally leaving behind only a couple of inches of snow.
But that’s not the storm the Northeast needs to worry about. The potential problem comes with a low-pressure system that could lash the Northeast with heavy snow and high winds this weekend, Moore said.
But there’s good news: The latest computer models are in disagreement over the likelihood of that happening. One model shows the low pressure staying offshore and having no ill effects on the Northeast. The other shows wretched weather for an area already suffering.
“It is still too early to choose one solution over the other,” Moore said.

The Northeast is a very large place. Is there a chance of snow in Ohio? Pennsylvania? New York City? Upstate New York? Massachusetts? Maine? New Hampshire? Vermont? Without that information, this story says nothing.
Actually it pretty clearly says areas that were devestated this past weekend by snowstorms and unless you haven't been following the news it was a very large area of new england and new york just like the article states. Maybe you should actually read thea rticles that you're deciding to make a fool out of yourself on first to avoid looking like an entire goon again in front of the whole world, stick to the celebrtiry gossip stories you scraw.
Well Litter, not only did I read the article, I live in the Northeast, and although some areas got lots of snow (24+inches where I live), other areas had much less, and none were "devastated".
well "rick" I don't live anywhere near there but I watched the news and they didn't show one area that wasn't under 25+ inches of snow so obviously you have no idea what you're talking about and should just go shovel crap instead of trying to look like a hero calling out the media which the majority of the population does everyday anyway and in your case it's such a petty and unfounded complaint to begin with that everyone here's beginning to think that you're just a typical lonely and helpless new englandite hipster clown.
Why don't you guys settle this with a snowball fight
I would fly over there just to smash a snow covered ice-ball right into his liberal face but he probably believes in non-violence and bake sales to benefit a.i.d.s, and stuff so there's no chance that hje'd ever agree to that.
Rick... I'm backing you up. I live in VT, and I got a paltry foot of snow out of this lat storm. Total wimp storm for me, no devastation here. Yes, this article is very vague, and gave me no real info about what I could possibly expect. And I'm tired of the overhyping of normal winter weather.
alright tough guy cause a foot of snow is no big deal right? We've gotten that here once ever I think and it shut down all the local restaruants and furniture stores and the governor had to declare an emergency status for a few days so stop acting like that's not really anything worth reporting on tauntto.
Um, hater, dude, chill. VT is used to dealing with snow, and we've had winters that would dump 18+ inches on us twice a week for several weeks in a row. So a foot really is nothing to squawk at here. Yes, the recent blizzard was hard on certain areas, but not us. However, some of these articles would have you believe the entirety of the northeast is shut down and buried, and that is not the case. And thus far, the storm for this weekend really doesn't look like much to excited about. I'm just sick of the hype. It's winter.
well to be honest there isn't a whole lot else going on right now so this is the big news item right now and I was talking to some guy on the chatrouellete website who was from connecticut about this and he said that there were widespread panick in his are and thhat they still weren't plowed out and something about widespread fires or something which to me sounds pretty f'ing serious even if you aren't from the big tough vermont state that can suppossedlly deal with any disaster that nature will thorw at them.
Again, Hater, dude, chill. You are putting words in my mouth. All I said was THIS STORM did not devastate us. And I also mentioned that other areas were much harder hit than us, and I'm not trying to minimize their problems.
It's all a matter of perspective, here in the high Sierras of California, 3 feet of snow is pretty much a "dusting."
I have family in both VT and NH, some got 2 feet others barely a foot of snow in the "Blizzard of 2013." It's winter for crying out loud. If you live in an area that gets snow, learn how to live with it or move.
Rick-881466, if you live in the Northeast region and do no recognize characteristics of winter weather by now then you have serious issues. Also, you should be prepared for what the unexpected could bring regardless of the weather forecasts. Mother Nature still has ways of being unpredictable even for the most savvy of weatherpersonnel. No one can predict exact amounts of any type of precipitation, just be prepared for the climate that is known for your region. Even for the hurricane that passed through back in October, I was prepared. I barely live 12 miles south of NYC; I grew up in the White Mountains of NH. The only type of disaster I can never be fully prepared for is a terrorist attack or a Tsunami, which can also be unpredictable because they occur so infrequently.
wilsonarden, cut the crap with your SPAM!! Go out and find a real job.
julliea, I bet that you won't be preparred for when I knock down the door to your house and give you a huge hug for being such an intelligent person either though, such good points!
I live within the 3-5 towns on Long Island that got hit with the 32" of Snow that was in a small wedge of the North Shore - Mid-Island,
I still have not been plowed out, but managed to get out of my neighborhood today using my F-150 Pick up.
In just 26 miles to Work (Western direction) it is amazing how much less snow there is here at my office. It is like two different realities. This storm (because of the turn from Rain to Sleet/Snow) and offshore water temps was a very different experience in very short distances.
Makes it kind of hard to explain to the boss when he has NO issue getting to work and I am trying to explain I cannot even get out of my Driveway. <Grin>
Almost all my snow is gone!
Bring it on baby!
Exactly, almost no snow for almost 3 years in the Northeast. What's going on?
Drought and flood go together.
You live in the North East. It snows. That's life. Lots of people move to Florida and Texas and southern states only to find there is no work, no anything. Snow storms are the least of your problems. The southern states are so plagued with problems most people regret the move.
Raymond, most of us in the Northeast aren't complaining about the snow, it's the media making us out to be a bunch of whiners. GIVE ME MORE SNOW!!!!
Glad someone is getting some Winter.. Texas got nothing again this year. Going to be a Hell of a Summer.
Yeah, it's called Winter. Comes around every year about this time and is sometimes accompanied by cold, wet weather including snow. How stupid are you people?
What is winter again? I think I missed it...all 38 inches of it that I had to shovel with a makeshift shovel..
It is actually looking like Liberal Democrat Voters are being destroyed by Mother Nature.
What a great job these guys have... 50 / 50 shot
Oh my goodness gracious, the East Coast is going to get more snow. WOW, last I heard it was still winter. We get 4' of snow in the mountains here and it never makes the headlines. Some place back east gets a couple of inches and everything is closed down and it's also headline news.
LMAO over this. I can't believe people don't realize that when it's winter, snow normally falls, and you just prepared for it. Crying because other cities wouldn't loan them their snow plows. Hey IDIOTS, those other communities most likely were using them for the taxpayers who paid for the plows. and Not for some hippy, low informed east coast pukes.
A hint to you poor babies, buy a snow shovel, a generator, and stock up on food that won't spoil or go bad on you. All of this comes under PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. So quit crying about needing help from a measly 4' of snow. Yeesh!
But Al Gore told us we wouldn't get snow anymore. And now that it did I want my government check!
