Body of ex-LAPD gunman identified in charred cabin

Christopher Dorner, a former Los Angeles officer.

The charred human remains located in the burned out cabin in Seven Oaks, Calif., have been positively identified to be those of Christopher Dorner, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Officials said the positive identification was made through a dental examination during an autopsy.

The announcement puts a cap on one of the largest and deadliest manhunts in California history.

The LAPD, which had been under a series of tactical alerts while Dorner was on the lam, cautiously returned to normal operations on Wednesday, a day after the suspect believed to be Dorner was cornered in a cabin near the Big Bear resort area.

Investigators had been combing the ski resort area since last Thursday, when Dorner’s burnt Nissan truck was found there hours after he allegedly ambushed cops in two cities, killing Officer Michael Crain.

Days earlier, police believe, Dorner killed the daughter of a retired police captain and her fiancé in Irvine to kick off a killing spree that sowed fear across the region and in the ranks of law enforcement.

All three slayings were suspected to be connected to Dorner and the plans he allegedly laid out in a manifesto targeting law enforcement officers and their families. He was incensed at the LAPD after being fired for filing a false complaint.

In a shootout on Tuesday, Dorner killed a fourth person, Sheriff's Deputy Jeremiah MacKay, and wounded another officer as he tried to escape the manhunt.

Karen and Jim Reynolds came face to face with Christopher Dorner when they arrived at their Big Bear cabin to clean it out for renters. NBC's Miguel Almaguer reports.

As a vet, I am amazed at the spin the media has put on this. I've got a lot of friends that are cops, and we see this as every Steven Segal movie ever made about crooked cops that go after one of their own who puts in a complaint and rocks the boat. The LA cops were so DESPERATE to kill him before he talked to the press or killed the "bad cops", they shot up a truck with two maids in it, another truck with an innocent civilian, etc. Then, the cabin this guy is hiding in burns to the ground WITH HIM IN IT??? Wow - I think someone is covering something up. I don't know why. The LAPD has always been the shining example of police transparency and above board in every way ---- NOT.

Here we go again. All the racist Polly Wannabe's have no problem glorifying the death of Christopher Dorner, but don't forget, he took five others before he was murdered. Ha, ha, ha! To restate my belief on whether there are any "good" cops, it's like a saying someone once told me, comparing good white men to cops, the saying goes, "the only good white man is dead and folded in my wallet". This is the comparison to a "good" cop. Cops have and continue to abused their position and authority to inflict pain, torture, and death in the lives of minorities without justification and cause. Dorner's contributions are just droplets of water in a bucket that must be filled to eradicate the evil stench that the white man has created and now has become his burden. America's chickens are coming home to roost! And by the way, those "so-called" innocent lives that were sacrificed, were pieces on the chess board. War is hell when it is your turn to pay.

I wonder why the San Bern sheriff did not have it in him to mention the Calif Wildlife officers who first found the cowardly killer and engage him in a firefight? Was it professional jealousy?

Why is everyone turning this into a racial thing? i read his manifesto and they didn't ruin his life because he's black, they did it because he "crossed the blue line" by turning in a fellow officer for committing assult on a suspect...so why don't all you people out there acting like the LAPD did nothing wrong to him, why don't you explain this "blue line"...wait i'll explain it for you...it's basically the same principle as criminals saying "snitches are bitches"...it basically means that if you see another officer commit a crime you're not suppose to tell on them NOMATTER WHAT...but wait aren't they the ones suppose to be ENFORCING the laws? half of them are criminals themselves...bottom line is that cops/prosecutors/judges are NOT ALLOWED to break the law to enforce the law...they are REQUIRED to play by the rules...that means NO kicking suspects who are already cuffed and on the ground, NO planting, hiding, or misrepresenting evidence, and NO lying to protect fellow officers when they COMMIT A CRIME (which is exactly what that female officer did)...there are ALWAYS two sides to a story so we should ignore/dismiss Dorner's side

We will never know the full truth. This fiasco was all Doner had to prove at least some of his point. The way the LAP handled the situation, you must question. The irresponsible shooting of the vehicle with the two ladies in it is a clear example of the shoot first, question later mentality. And I'm fairly confident we will not hear anything more about that situation as far as repercussions, or changes made in policy. There is no way he would have made it out alive cop killer or not. He is a whistleblower, he questioned authority.

Until we actually take action as a whole to make changes then we are all just as bad as those that are corrupt. Sweeping it under the rug, just letting it pass into forgotten memory, or chaulking it up to an isolated event does nothing. It only allows it to continue. Until we take back the "we the people" we will stay to the delight of "authority"- "we the sheeple".

Ok so he started his "rampage" by killing 2 innocent people. According to most that makes Dorner a thug and most likely has some psychotic issues and many more things. What i do not understand is if he is all those things how come the other 2 innocents he tied up & the guys truck he stole, he told the guy i dont want to hurt you and let the man get his dogs out of the truck & live. Oh & the game warden that stopped him, if Dorner was such a sure shot he couldve easily taken him out.

So he kills 2 innocent people to start and in the end lets 4 innocent people that are in the way and can easily get him caught live? if he was such a "bad guy" wouldnt have been easier for him to just kill 4 others, he's already killed 2 innocent people a few cops & had multiple shootouts with cops whats 4 more bullets to him.

You can hear the recording of the cops saying burn this place to the ground, if Dorner wouldve tossed his guns and let them take him he wouldve been gunned down as he walked out the door or he wouldve been killed on the way to the precinct as he "tried to escape police custody." The press was being kept 2miles out & the helicopters were asked to leave the area.

The LAPD is as crooked as it could be. nothing has changed they hide alot of things from the public. Their batch allowes them to abuse their authority and they like in a big company must keep that "code of silence" or else they pounce on you like meat. If they actually do a complete investigation "which I hope they do" to clear up everything he said. I hope the truth comes out.

Does it strike anyone else strange that few, if any, new reports have talked about investigating the charges made in the manifesto? Seems that we no longer have a press that represents the interests of the citizens.

Are the police guilty of the brutality and corruption that is charged in the manifesto? If so, have the police named been retained and promoted? If so, the citizens (There is no one else who will.) have a responsibility to clean up the Los Angeles Police Department and the courts. And, please, the investigation should not be conducted by the LAPD and the very people charged. Police and judicial corruption should concern all of us regardless of our political views and regardless of what we think of Mr. Dormer.

We should do more than just argue in this "Comments" section. How about starting a petition to get the charges investigated? What else can you think of to do as opposed to just writing comments?

Agreed 7777! Our society has become the type to sit and wait for someone else to do it. Its too hard, or I don't have time... Therefore nothing gets done. I am with you on the petition. We, as a forum are all together from all over. Imagine what can get done if each one of us did one simple thing to get the ball rolling.

Send letters to Justice Dept, Mayor, National Council of Mayors, State Prosecutors, Congress, demanding to re-open his case and investigate. The problem is who will be objective, thorough and allowed to tell the truth - to us - and when?

Start with a website or message board or facebook page that everyone can link to including the government, who will surely be watching very closely and posting. Tie it to a request for everyone to write their government and Los Angeles officials. Where's David Plouffe when you need him?!

I speak of all law enforcement in the USA. Protect us, serve us, be honest, and love your country. If I have an Emergency, I'm going to call the Police, and wait for assistance also.. To imply that I hate cops or condone killings is sick and cheap-shotted...Therefore, either you've been interested in reading my comments, (thanks :0) ) or you cant think outside the box either. we can all agree to disagree.. thats what makes us American. Thanks to all for your thoughts and input. I'll be sure to lock up extra tight at home, because there really ARE crazy people in this world.. ( what if Dorner walked out of the flames like The Terminator and came back as a robotic cyborg from the future and finished his mission? ...lol It'd Make a great Movie!! Good night America! God Bless the USA!

Sooner or later someone brings up Jesus and all of the moral code that goes with him. I'd like to point out that Jesus also received a trial, was convicted and then executed (or sacrificed as you like to say). Nobody did anything except watch others chant "kill him for breaking our laws." A morality that justifies the killing of a completely innocent person who showed ONLY good will to others. I'm keeping my gun ownership laws. Our government must obey the law and continue to answer to all citizens. This is non-negotiable.

Government will never rise up against a citizenship that is legally armed to protect itself. Our Founding Fathers knew this, understood it and kept power, especially of life or death, in the hands of ordinary citizens. You better wake-up and think about all of the long-term consequences you're willing to lose in the name of the fear chanted by our government since 9/11. Police are the only protectors citizens can call for help and they are becoming institutionalized by the military thru training. They are quickly outnumbered by excessive 9-1-1 calls.

"Universal background checks" is another way of saying "no privacy law." They want to pass a law that says if you apply for a gun, then government will get permanent unlimited ongoing access to every piece of information about you including medical. Afterall, you might be sane today and "nuts" tomorrow.

Just want to say that everywhere there are a butt load of black Democrats that support Obama and we do not condone violence against cops by anyone.
