Body of ex-LAPD gunman identified in charred cabin

Christopher Dorner, a former Los Angeles officer.

The charred human remains located in the burned out cabin in Seven Oaks, Calif., have been positively identified to be those of Christopher Dorner, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Officials said the positive identification was made through a dental examination during an autopsy.

The announcement puts a cap on one of the largest and deadliest manhunts in California history.

The LAPD, which had been under a series of tactical alerts while Dorner was on the lam, cautiously returned to normal operations on Wednesday, a day after the suspect believed to be Dorner was cornered in a cabin near the Big Bear resort area.

Investigators had been combing the ski resort area since last Thursday, when Dorner’s burnt Nissan truck was found there hours after he allegedly ambushed cops in two cities, killing Officer Michael Crain.

Days earlier, police believe, Dorner killed the daughter of a retired police captain and her fiancé in Irvine to kick off a killing spree that sowed fear across the region and in the ranks of law enforcement.

All three slayings were suspected to be connected to Dorner and the plans he allegedly laid out in a manifesto targeting law enforcement officers and their families. He was incensed at the LAPD after being fired for filing a false complaint.

In a shootout on Tuesday, Dorner killed a fourth person, Sheriff's Deputy Jeremiah MacKay, and wounded another officer as he tried to escape the manhunt.

Karen and Jim Reynolds came face to face with Christopher Dorner when they arrived at their Big Bear cabin to clean it out for renters. NBC's Miguel Almaguer reports.

The ACLU says we violated his civil rights and that he died an innocent man. To bad we can't revive him and burn him alive again.

Watch LAPD screw this heroic cleaning woman out of the $1,000,000 reward because she called 911 instead of the tip line.

Genius' the LAPD HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS!!! It was the San Bernardino Sheriffs Dept that did the viligante justice. They would not allow the LAPD near the site! This was a lynch mob and the tapes will bear that out in the investigation. I do not condone Dorner, but I despise what the Sheriffs Dept did, it was dirty, no better than Dorner himself. Get your facts straight.

This was not a lynch mob and to say so just shows ignorance. One voice over an open mic talking about burning doesn't constitute a lynch mob. Do you know who it was? Was it a friend or relative on the department of the deputy that was just murdered by Dorner?

I would like this investigated.I did not read his manifesto. We have to acknowledge that MANY black men have been railroaded in this country.I'm not saying that is what happened here, but it isn't too far of a stretch to consider framing a possibility.Maybe I'm way off base.As I am a white guy who is a fan of my people,I feel it is only fair to investigate

i sincerely THINK that Mr. Dorner had a BAD CASE of MEGALOMINIA......otherwise known as ILLUSIONS of GRANDEUR. Don't forget...he was 6'2" tall, weighed over two hundred pounds, was "Police Trained",, was a COLLEGE GRADUATE, recently left the NAVY with an HONORABLE DISCHARGE......in other words....he had a SUPERMAN COMPLEX.

In so many words.....HE HAD A LOT OF THINGS GOING FOR HIM........but guess what?........TOO BAD.....He chose to "go to hell" instead. Reminds me of LUCIFER......in the old Testament. He was the PRETTIEST ANGEL GOD created. And yet.....he thought he could "OUTGOD".....GOD HIMSELF. he had this "I'm better than you COMPLEX."

And so.....HISTORY....seems to REPEAT ITSELF. All over again.

he was a classic "injustice collector."

                  Characteristics of Injustice Collectors
                  1. Injustice collectors are never wrong. How is it possible that they are never wrong? It's simple: They are always right.
                  2. Injustice collectors never apologize. Ever. For anything.
                  3. Injustice collectors truly believe they are morally and ethically superior to others and that others seem incapable of holding themselves to the same high standards as the injustice collector does.
                  4. Injustice collectors make the rules, break the rules and enforce the rules of the family. They are a combination of legislator, police, judge and jury to those they consider their subjects. They forever banish from their kingdom any subject they deem disloyal, and only grant clemency if there is sufficient contrition.
                  5. Injustice collectors never worry about what is wrong with them as their "bad" list grows. Their focus is always on the failings of others.
                  6. Injustice collectors are never troubled by the disparity between their rules for others and their own expectations of themselves. Injustice collectors rationalize their own behavior with great ease and comfort.
                  7. Injustice collectors have an external orientation; the problem always exists in the world, outside of themselves, and in their view, the world would be an acceptable place if their rules and standards were followed at all times.
                  8. Injustice collectors do not have a capacity for remorse or guilt.
                  9. Injustice collectors scoff at the idea of therapy, therapists, self-help books, and other tools used by people who struggle to live with them.
                  10. The phrase "walking on eggshells" describes life with an injustice collector.

and for some injustice collectors it has been taught to them since they were tiny children..it's a culture..it's a way of life..It's a mantra they live by.

It's a shame that the truth will never come out. The LAPD re-opening his case is an insult to everyone's intelligence because they will not arrive at a different conclusion other than the one they already did, to do otherwise would prove Dorner right. Killing him like they did seems to show that they have something to hide since they knew a fire would occur once the cannister was shot into the cabin.

I don't think the cops can safely say all's back to normal now.

Dorner was an ex-cop and familiar with all police protocols, including the obvious that dental records would be used to identify a body.

Its not unreasonable to think he let the cabin burn down intentionally with a fake, doctored body to throw the police off his tail for the time being. Just sayin.

Here we go again some people on here are trying to bring up the racism card and to say he was killed because he was black and he was fighting for that, this guy made the decision to murder people in cold blood he had a list of people on his hit list why should he be treated any better then other murderers whatever his problems he had with anyone this was no way to handle it he killed the family members of cops, he had plenty of time to turn himself in, but he chose to hide out and run and when they found him he continued shooting. I read he started the fire and then he killed himself, and police do have the right to shoot back if there been shot at and I don't blame them if he was white they would of handled it the same using the fact that he was black and that he was burned down by white cops is using the racist card as an excuse a murderer is a murderer no matter what color he is.

I'm so tired of the media flashing all his smiley photos around, as if he were some sort of special, significant person. And to keep saying he was a "Navy reservist" (as if that spread fear among his enemies) is really to say that he was in the "Sea Scouts." It's not the same as saying he was a "Navy Seal." So what we have come to, is morons covering the news of morons.

I suspect he didn't want to come out alive and he shot himself. I'm interested in what got him to this point. It's important for the LAPD Dept to investigate what did they miss. Same with the Navy, was there something going on there as well. He wanted to be a martyr that was obvious. The question is could he have been noticed before hand. Were there suspicions, problems but overlooked the seriousness of them. To find out I think would be important for the 4 officers who died. It's important not to set him up as a martyr but as someone to learn from so that no other officer has to face this kind of terror nor families either. To simply say he's dead and be done with it, I think is doing a disservice to the dead officers. I think they would want to know for that'ss what makes a good police officer. Learning the cause for then they can better determine others of similar kind before it reaches this point.

Most people who don't like the police are those who've had a bad experience with them, probably because they were arrested for doing something illegal. So, its conspiracy/ racism/brutality/profiling/etc, ad infinitum.

Dorner was a murderer of innocent people yet many of the posts I've read either support him or say the police practice one or all of the above.

A very bad man is dead and he probably shot himself (remember the shot heard in the CBS report ?) and died instantly.

So, go lurk on your blogs until the next murdering thug shows up and you can come out of the crawl spaces and run your mouths again.

More cops than you know are just as crooked as the people they arrest and that opinion comes from working with them and seeing firsthand how they really are. It's a well paid job and you only need a high school diploma.

With 10,000 sworn officers on the department might one think there might be some that aren't the best around. Add to that the quota hiring they have to do to fill the minority and women percentages they need to keep and skip better qualified people and you have what you have.

My cousin sees corruption/conspiracy/crookedness in all police. He also spent 12 years in prison for drug possession with intent because he was doing illegal things. He was mistreated every step of the way (his contention) from arrest to incarceration to being kept in prison too long. When he rides with me he says not to look at the police because they'll pull us over on suspicion of 'something'. I wave at the police just to annoy him and I check my wallet and home after he leaves.

I'm 62 and my experiences with police have all been good even when getting traffic tickets ( I was ticketed correctly). I suppose if I was wrongly charged I would change my mind about that particular officer.

You are wrong Mike. You left out those who have lived and worked with the brotherhood and have seen it first hand. No lurking here. Experience only. I care not for the Dorner's of this world. I do care about public servants that abuse the power the public has given them.

Our of respect for your age sir, I will not insult you for having assumed that everyone who has something bad to say about the police are criminals.

                                Have a good day.
