Subscribe to RSSNEW YORK -- A Brooklyn rabbi is being accused of trying to lure an undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old girl to meet for sex.
The Brooklyn district attorney's office says Nathan David Rabinowich was arrested Wednesday after he showed up at a pre-arranged meeting in Queens.
He's being held pending arraignment on charges of attempted rape, attempted criminal sexual act and attempted endangering the welfare of a child. A telephone message left with his attorney was not immediately returned.
Authorities say the 59-year-old rabbi, who also operates a tour business, faces up to four years in prison if convicted.

Even so, the abuse by Catholic priests who have abused children sexually or had affairs with women, or men, old enough to consent is no greater than the abuse by those of other categories, INCLUDING those clergy who are allowed by their own faith to marry!

The catholic church sets up a membership that caters to homosexual men and then supplies them with an in-house group of victims. The church has been hiding abuse of all kinds for generations and only now is becoming more open after losing many legal battles. If today's laws were applied 50 years ago half of all priest would be in jail serving time for violence, physical and sexual abuse. I know because I was raised a catholic who went to catholic pre-school, grammar and high school. I finally got tire of that mentality as an adult and haven't been back since.

There was a case a few years back, before the internet, where a 14 yr old girl was talking to an older man on US Vidoetel. US Videotel was a forerunner to the internet with chat rooms etc. She took a cab to meet him at some motel and they spent the day having sex. She took a cab back home afterwards. IF her mother had not seen her getting out of the cab the meetings would have continued. It was she that had instigated the contact with the guy, but it was the guy that went to jail.
The point is this, it is not the men that are to blame all of the time. Sometimes the girls will lead the men down the path to ruin for whatever reasons. It is the men that should be careful of those they meet on the internet because it wont be the girls going to jail, it will be them....

I dont buy that celibacy makes them want to have sex with children. If that was the case, college virgins would be out raping boys nonstop. If he just wanted sex, there are plenty of ways to go about it without raping a child, like a prostitute. No, they are pedophiles that use the church as a means to their end.

There are legal means with which to have sex with consenting women. I dont see their celibacy as an excuse.

I don't believe celibacy causes pedophilia, just that the celibate status of catholic priests attracts pedophiles because they think by taking a vow of celibacy, it will cure them.
Also, the Catholic church asks priests to be celibate because of money, not doctrine. Otherwise, they would not allow Ukranian Catholic priests to marry - which they do. If you have to support the priest AND his family, then you have to pay him more money.
Orthodox priests (and Ukranian Catholic - which follow orthodox customs) are required to marry in order to become a priest. This is for many reasons - less likely to have sexual relations with church members, having a basis for marital counselling (catholic priests council on marriage but usually have no experience which makes their counsel pointless and not based in reality), etc.
I'm not saying that Orthodox priests are all innocent but I do believe you get less sickos because of the marriage requirement.
Not just about supporting the priest and his family - but also ensuring that any inheritance he has will be passed onto the church.
mb - Actually, Orthodox priests are not required to marry, but if they want to marry, they have to do so before they are ordained. Afterward, they are not allowed to marry.

There are hundreds of cases of sexual abuse of minors by rabbis, mostly involving jewish children. Just google "rabbi sexual abuse". Several of these bastards have fled to Israel when they were caught. There they are protected by a state that refuses to extradite them to face american justice. You could say they "moved to another parish" in catholic jargon.

A detective posing as a 14 year old.? .One time when I was way over 18 and a women well over 18 dressed provocatively was waiting for a bus under an awning because of the rain.We started to talk and after about 15 minutes I asked her if she wanted to have a coffee.She pulled out her badge and said she could arrest me for talking to strange woman on the street.This was entrapment.! O.k this is different but.he´s hardly a rapist ..and what´s this girl doing chatting with older men on the net.? Warren Jeffs could be called a "fundamentalist Mormon", but it is misleading to call him a Mormon. That term is far too closely associated with the mainstream LDS church.
When you say he is Mormon, it falsely tells people he is associated with the local LDS congregation down the street. This is simply not true. Warren Jeffs thinks he is a prophet for the world, that the only way to get to the Celestial Kingdom is to have multiple wives (btw, picked out by Jeffs himself) They have other doctrines as well that mainstream LDS members do not believe nor follow.
The mainstream Mormons do not believe these things. We do believe in a living prophet. His name is Thomas S. Monson, we do not practice polygamy (and have not for over 120 years). To associate Warren Jeffs with the Mormons is patently wrong.

The difference is there is not one centralized governing body of Judaism covering this up and shuffling the rabbi off to a different city where he can try to get at other little girls. Actually sexual abuse by rabbis is a lot more commom than you may thnik. The rabbis protect their own just like the Catholic Church. Several rabbis have fled sexual abuse charges to Israel, who refuses to extradite therm, and in many cases orthodox families are pressured into not pressing charges by threats to their businesses and offers of money. You can find hundreds of cases if you just google "rabbi sexual abuse".

Westwest...I did not mean to suggest there was no abuse within Judaism, or any sect of Protestantism, or for that matter, the Boy Scouts, schools and camps. I'm sure cover-ups are far more rampant than makes the news. It's the world-wide spread of the Catholic Church, and the extremely well-protected hierarchy that swept incidents of abuse under the rug for decades (at least) to which I was referring. The Vatican is its own sovereign nation (almost like Israel) with their own laws, guards, etc. You can't touch the Catholic Church because it has its own leadership that promises to take care of its own problems, and it is entirely within the law for them to do so. But, historically, they don't take care of them. I admit, I am not up on the doings within Judaism or other religions as my studies have been focused on the Catholic Church. That's not my fault, it's all they taught at my Catholic high school and Catholic college. (And it was enough to send me screaming in the other direction as soon as I was old enough to think for myself.)

But NO there is NOT a central authority in Judaism like there is in the Catholic Church. It's sad what happened in your neighborhood, but that is localized injustice. The Catholic Church is globalized, with its own government, and with its sticky little fingers in every country in the WORLD. The cover-ups, the shuffling around of pedophile priests, etc., is a world-wide problem that is still being perpetrated, while a priest who sleeps with an adult woman is excommunicated. There is no comparison. Israel does not have the power of the Vatican, so don't try to justify by pointing fingers there.

The age of consent was around 10-12 in the United States prior to 1920 when it was raised to 16. The founding fathers were most likely all pedophiles by today's standards.
In history, most people were pedophiles because if you lived to be over 30, you lived a long full life. You had to impregnate women when they were in their early teens because then they could be around at least long enough to raise the child. Now that modern medicine allows for people to live to be great grandparents, we want to allow kids to be kids.
I would say that it is surprising that so many think there is a national age of consent - that is left to the states and it differs.

BTW: This wouldn't be illegal in Hawaii or Idaho where the age of consent is 14.
