Authorities are looking for the person who fatally shot and beat a pet cat in the lower Hudson River Valley in New York last month, and officials say the suspect may be the same individual who has killed three other cats near the area since July.
Officials in Putnam County say a Patterson, N.Y, man called the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Feb. 7 and said his cat appeared to have been shot while it was outside.
Authorities found the 7-month-old black and brown female Calico cat, named "Blackfoot," with a neck wound; the feline also appeared to be paralyzed from its mid-section to its hind paws.
The cat was rushed to a nearby hospital, where veterinarians conducted an X-ray and found a metal projectile embedded in part of the animal's spine. Animal control officers said the suspect may have used a high-powered BB gun or a low-caliber rifle to fire the projectile at the cat.

Veterinarians also found a spinal fracture that they believe was caused by blunt force trauma.
"I believe the person called her over, the shot her in the back, then kicked her," said Blackfoot's owner Robert Kitts, who found her bleeding outside his home last week.
The cat remained under veterinary care at the Westchester Animal Hospital until it died Feb. 11 due to progressive paralysis, authorities said.
Officials are looking into whether the latest case of cat abuse may be connected to a severed cat head found staged in August in an intersection half a mile from where Blackfoot was shot. Authorities are also investigating if those incidents are connected to two other cat beheadings in July several miles away in the Connecticut towns of Oxford and Fairfield.
"We responded to a call not quite half a mile from here where we found a decapitated cat's head that was placed in the middle of the road," said Ken Ross of the Putnam County SPCA. "That took place within a month of two cats that were found nearby in Connecticut in the same condition."
Authorities are concerned that the cat killer could move to more serious crimes.
"It's moving into the realm of -- something's going to happen to a human," said Ross. "Something's going to be done to a human because this person no longer has the control to hold back."

Do you allow your cat to run loose outside, If you do and it gets hit by a car or attacked by a Raccoon or Skunk or Coyote will you blame the driver of the car or the raccoon or skunk or coyote or will you accept responsibility and blame yourself for being an idiot and letting him roam outside, Does your cat have have required shots, Does he have a microchip, Is he wearing a tag with identification.
But most importantly...Why are you letting him run loose outside
Do you have a dog, Do you let him run loose outside
Do you have young children, Do you let them run loose outside
Who really is at fault, In the end if the cat was not allowed to run loose outside it would not have gotten harmed!

That's not good logic, although if it is not out, it won't get hurt, but sometimes they squeak out. If your kid is playing outside in the yard, and I hate kids, and he runs across the street in front of me and I speed up to run him over with witnesses, I'm pretty sure my lawyer isn't going to have any success with the "he shouldn't have been left unattended" defense.
LITPB, Carol did not say she lets her 19-year-old cat outside. If the cat is 19, he very likely stays inside.
It's not just the fact that someone is killing cats, it's the element of torture involved as well. It's just so hard to imagine someone waking up and planning the day around going out to search for innocent animals to torture and kill. It makes you wonder that once this practice run has been perfected, will a child be the next victim? I hope this fully-formed pillar of human waste is caught before any more animals and people are harmed.

I would never torture an animal, however I hate cats and to me they are just rodents like a rat. If one grew up on a farm one would have a different opinion. Most people have never even seen a wild cat.
Cats are not rodents, period. They don't destroy crops, grain stores, or steal the breath from infants. They have served as efficient rodent exterminators, however, and back before warfarin became used on rats, they were quite useful to farmers, unless they were raising chickens.
Didn't their parents teach them it's wrong to waste food ? There are people starving in Africa.
A good solution to this cat-killing turd's problems would be to hog-tie him, cover him with hamburger and tuna, and put him naked into a cage with a bunch of rabid cats, skunks, dogs, foxes, and wolverines. The video would break all Youtube records.
Just think, If the idiots would not have let their cats run loose on other peoples property then their precious cats would not have been harmed, The reason the cats wre killed is because the idiots let them run loose in the first place.

So should the people who do not take care of their pets and let them roam free. If you have a cat, keep it in doors otherwise you are guilty of killing hundreds if not thousands of birds and other animals.
I feel bad for the cat and the owners ..............but folks should not leave their cats outside to roam free. There are thousands of unwanted feral cats and when you consider one cat can kill over 250 birds each per year then there is a problem.
How many of you people writing in like birds? Weigh your thoughts about killing cats. If they are picked up by the animal control people they end up getting euthanized. The biggest problem with this sick person is they are not eliminating the cats in a humane way, if you feel the need to get rid of feral / free roaming cats then they should be given the respect given to any animal and dispatched cleanly and quickly.

In some states it is legal and encouraged to kill cats that do not have a collar or tags.. They are called feral cats and they do major damage to the songbird population.

I'm a catman...Living in Paterson NJ...I have 6, 3 male 3 female...indoor...and 2 strays we adopted that go outside.....The indoor cats are jay....and do try to escape....People release cats out here all the time...My heart go's out to them....Mexicans living along the passaic river out here were routed....and they found dozens of strays. Our cat clinic Lady has been trapping them. trying to find homes for them....Pat's animal control...If they catch them they exterminate them...It's such a shame...All my cats and just recently the strays too have been spayed and neutered...At my personal expense...20lb of crunchy food per week...Let me catch someone doing this.....Mucho Pain.

Ultimately it is the owner of the cat that is responsible because they let the cat run loose.

@ Lost so if your livestock you mentioned earlier in this thread get loose onto my property, then it would be ok for me to shoot it???? Because those of us who grew up on farms know that Cows, Goats, Sheep, Horses...etc never get lost do they............
Roscoe, When my Cow or goat or sheep or horses start killing your cats you have my permission to shoot them, But more importantly I do not open the door or gate and just let my animals run loose and if one of my animals gets loose then I immediately go out looking for it and if one of my animals destroys or damages someones property i will pay for that damage, My horses even have manure catchers so that their manure does not drop on the street when they are pulling a carriage on the roadway. And if my chickens somehow manage to get loose and roam over to your property please feel free to have yourself a free chicken dinner on me.
personally cats are not my favorite house pet. let alone do I even like them that much but I love cats for their ways of making owners happy. they mean good to us and for a son of a bitch like that to kill them wtf. imagine what is going through the cats head. A low powered gun.....A .22 will shoot a 20gr bullet with the primer as the propellant. You can buy them that travel at 325 feet a second or the ones for rifles that travel at 550 feet per second.
