High winds, snow hit New England

The second blizzard in as many weeks is hitting the Northeast. NBC's Lester Holt reports.

A winter storm initially expected to produce blizzard-like conditions in parts of New England brought moderate snow and strong winds to the region on Sunday.

Forecasters had said up to a foot of snow would be possible in areas of New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts, but the storm was moving out of the region Sunday afternoon after less than half that amount had accumulated.

For southeastern New England, including Boston, the snow totaled 3 to 5 inches, Boston.com reported. The snow and ice in the city caused flights arriving to Logan International Airport to be delayed an average of 52 minutes.

Meanwhile, arctic air and heavy winds meant below-freezing temperatures in New England and wind chills in the single digits across the whole eastern U.S. over the weekend, weather.com reported.

Snow flurries shroud Washington Street in Kinston, N.C., on Saturday.

“What will be noteworthy today are the winds which will be especially strong along the coast,” Meteorologist David Epstein said. “At times some coastal areas south of Boston could see wind gusts hit 50 miles per hour.”

The Weather Channel’s Dr. Greg Postel warned the strong winds could cause scattered power outages throughout the region.

The snow that was hitting the New England area came a day after the moving storm brought 2-3 inches of snow to the Carolinas.

Much of New England just finished digging out after a historic winter storm that dumped 30 inches of snow on parts of Massachusetts and even more in Connecticut.

The reason people are going backward is because that it what the government wants! Why do you think the liberal media prints the propaganda? They want us to fight amongst ourselves! They do not want us fighting them!

    #26.1 - Sun Feb 17, 2013 1:53 AM EST

@timlmillinois, what liberal media are you talking about? That is a GOP lie, and people know and realize it. The media is controlled and owned by big corporations, most of which leans to the GOP side. And people, except for the liars in the low informed GOP base know that also.

Now to get back to the real story, before timlmillinois starts to blame Obama for causing this new snow storm in NE.

It's winter time yet, and yes the snow falls and the winds blow. We had snow in the Mts here, and yet that didn't make the national news. What makes the East Coast more important than the rest of the USA? There were places in Alaska that got snow that was measured in the Feet, not inches, and guess what, very little printed by the conservitive news media.

So if you expect me to feel sorry you got more snow, or people had accidents, well didn't you hear the warnings about the approaching storm? You have yourself to blame, a term that comes to mind is: PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for your actions. You make a stupid action, hey you may suffer some bad results.

Be like the Boy Scouts say, "BE PREPARED." It will save you many headaches and possibly heartaches also. And remember, it's still winter. After it quits snowing, get off the couch, grab your snow shovel and get to work. Your neighbor might need some help also.

We live in MetroWest, NW of Boston... we had 27 inches of snow last week..after an almost snowless winter. Sun and green grass grass had made this cold winter quite bearable thru January and Feb. We had a few days last week in the 50s so alot did melt. Still ALOT left. a few inches today and some high winds.... biting windchill. Dont quite understand the media these days. i guess its all for shock value and ratings..but 4 inches of snow in February is not newsworthy in New England......

4 inches of snow isn't newsworthy anywhere...

And the lady anchor on the news in Providence said to the forecaster, Bill you promised 8 inches but we only got 5". You could here the laughter in the studio as she quickly moved to the sports caster !

Well, you know the old saying: "If you don't like the weather in New England, go back to where you came from."

"Slammed" is way over-hyped for where I am (Providence). It's very small flakes, total maybe 2-3" (not 8-10") and has now stopped. Yes, it's a bit windy, but nothing like last weekend. And this business of naming every time any precipitation falls as if it were a hurricane is just ridiculous. It's winter. It's gonna snow and be cold.

Or to fly to the sun without burning a wing,
To lie in the meadow and hear the grass sing,
To have all these things in our memories hoard,
                    And to use them,
                    To help us,
                    To find...

I am sure that the Oregon folks appreciate your moving from Boston to wherever in Oregon. Here is Dallas, it is sunny, scattered clouds, very little wind and I just got back from 18 holes. But like all Texas weather, it is supposed to change later today. Wing, more clownds and a 40 to 50 degree drop in temperature. Nothing we can do about it so have fun. There are alot of good movies making the rounds.

And wouldn't you know that the troll, who goes by the name of billaryKlots just had to come on here and insult people. It figures some potty mouth would do that. And if it wasn't me, he would have insulted someone else. Shows how low informed that person is.

We have had a great couple of days, and today is another one, sure glad I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

I love to see you dopes get hammered, and just think those vile and corrupt teachers that fill our childerns heads with this nonsense are taking Monday off on the private sector. I wonder what crap they will be "teaching" when they return on Tuesday? Oh I know straight from boston and DC gun control.

From Ca, with your nutty ideas, take from the rich and give to the unions and the peeps. Your dopeness will ruin these states as you did toCA. It is to bad the taxpayers in Wa and Or can't take a trip to my home state NY. And see what you liberal progressive Dumbocrats have done to it. But not to wrong they will find out real soon on their own, but by then it will be to late.

After reading this article, I can't complain here in NJ. Earlier today it was cold enough to make my eyes water, especially because of the wind, but it was nowhere near 50 mph!!! Funny thing, my hyacinths are coming up, the trees are budding and I saw a robin the other day. Hopefully, spring will be here soon.

GEEZ, I'm glad I don't live in Connecticut anymore. When I moved to Southern California, the first thing I did was torch my windshield scraper :-)

Torching your windshield scraper was bad Karma NJO. The fates may send you back to CT.

When we came south with the Company I LOANED two snowthrowers to my daughter & SIL. Giving away or selling those snow throwers was simply too risky. We did keep a snow shovel and I set it outside every winter.

One good thing about all the snow is when it melts and flows downstream, it should really help out with drought our neighbors in the southern states are having.
