Protesters call for clearing fired LAPD officer Christopher Dorner's name

A protest in response to the death of fired LAPD officer Christopher Dorner – the subject of an extensive manhunt who is accused of killing four people – brought out about two dozen protesters in front of police headquarters in downtown Los Angeles Saturday.

Organizers said the demonstration would be peaceful and had expected about 200 participants to show up by noon.

The demonstrators called themselves "We Stand With Christopher Dorner." Some wore Guy Fawkes masks -- the ones known as a symbol of hacktivist group Anonymous -- to represent victims of police brutality.

They carried signs that read "end police brutality" and "clear his name."

Dorner, who was killed Tuesday after a fiery shootout at a mountain cabin near Big Bear, elicited sympathy from some who read his 11,400-word manifesto. In the document, Dorner described his firing from the LAPD after a review panel found he falsely reported another officer for excessive use of force against a suspect.

Timeline: Revenge-Plot Slayings | Read: Full Manifesto | Map: Dorner Manhunt

In the document, which he posted on Facebook, Dorner vowed to reclaim his name, and included a list of targets that he planned to eliminate. He also said the LAPD was a racist organization that had failed to reform after a series of scandals in the 1990s.

Dina Escoto, one of several people carrying signs at the protest, said she wished "in a way" that Dorner had survived so that the public could "hear his side of the story."

Christopher Dorner was fired from the LAPD in 2009.

She said she hopes the protest "sheds some light and police change policies so we won't have another Chris Dorner."

Escoto and others said they were focused on police brutality and on the shooting of innocent civilians -- in an incident in Torrance in which two women were shot up in their truck -- in the pursuit of Dorner.

"We're protesting some of the police brutality -- not just LAPD, but all over the nation," said protester and Lomita resident Vincent Namm, a former Marine. "With Chris Dorner, habeas corpus just got thrown out the window.''

Namm added: "They didn't seem like they were even interested in apprehending him."

Authorities said Friday that Dorner had likely died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a firefight at the cabin, which burned down during the confrontation. San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon said authorities did not intend to start the conflagration. He defended his deputies' actions when asked about audiotape recorded at the scene that seemed to indicate a desire on the part of officials to intentionally burn the cabin down.

Protesters were skeptical of the official version of events. Namm compared the Dorner gun battle and fire to the 1993 federal siege of a Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas.

Saturday's demonstrators began to gather a little before 10 a.m. near the corner of First and Main streets before making their way to 100 W. First St., where they were met by yellow police tape bordering LAPD headquarters.

There were at least three officers at different positions in front of the building, along with three parked television vans.

I think every person he killed was trying to kill him, except (perhaps) the daughter of the lawyer/cop. The anger of the poor/dishonest legal representation in his firing was a trigger point that all employers should think about. Honest firings are necessary, but the clique-based employee/employer cooperation to taunt/discipline/fire a person is a tinder box with a short fuse. We hear of these 'office' shootings often in the news, and sometimes, one @!$%# is responsible for causing the destruction of more than one person's job. Killing is never justified, and cops lying, shooting and beating innocent people, and simple cocky harassment of minorities has been going on too long. How about returning to "peace officers" instead of bad-ass cop/thugs?

Homo,

I would like to ask a question. Do you believe that all Police Officers lie, shoot/ beat incocent people, are cocky and harass minorities?

Because if you are judging all people based on their occupation, then you are a bigot.

Not all "Cops" are bad people. but just like in any race, religion, gender or occupation there are bad poeple.

So I ask you to please stop spreading hate towards all Police Officers. Besides, regardless of what you think, they do risk their lives for "you" every day.

Actually, if memory serves, both of the officers killed were shot before they had even drawn their guns. The last death is particularly notable, as both of the officers had just gotten out of their car and hadn't even un-holstered their weapons when Dorner gunned them down from a concealed location, using a flash suppressor to hide his firing position.

This is just disgusting. The man was a cold-blooded murderer, nothing that happened to him could have justified that. It's bad enough he killed police officers, but then going out and murdering two people for the "crime" of being related to someone he felt wronged him? That is WAY beyond the pale, it is just sick. Investigate his claims to see if other officers committed a crime and covered it up, sure, but don't make a hero out of this vile piece of work.

I don't agree with what he did, but they are a lot more to the story then we will ever know. If he was such a killer why didn't he kill the guy in the truck or the ones he tied up in the cabin. Some cops are as bad as anyone else.

Those stupid idiotic protester should be kissing the ground of this country they live in where they can gather like a bunch of losers who have nothing better to do but parade around with their little signs and think they are making a statement. I will bet my last dollar that none of them have a steady job, and just sit around waiting for any opportunity they can to get out and make fools of themselves. They all need to pack up and go to another country, maybe then they might find out that they cannot get away with this kind of bull$hit and finally wake up and GET A JOB, AND DO SOMETHING USEFUL WITH THEIR BORING LIVES. Readers forgive any mistakes I'm making in try to get my point across but I am so f--king angry and tired of reading all this BS about this jerk, who decided to go out and kill Innocent people, and thought he was justified in doing it. He made his Hell here on earth, and he burned in the fire, END OF STORY.

The man was a bomb waiting to go off, and unfortunately for those victims it was too late to remove him from society and put him in an institution where he belonged way before this awful thing happened. He lived by the sword and he died by the sword, but those that have died, and their loved ones will forever remember this horrible time in their lives. Blacks never think other blacks are guilty of anything. Most never take responsibility for their actions and culture of failure. Blacks are 13% of the population and over 70% of those in jail and in prison. None of them admit to being guilty of anything. Watch the news..... day after day, night after night, if someone has been robbed, raped, or murdered the accused or person caught in the act is usually black. This is fact, not fiction. If Dorner was truly innocent, there are legal ways to address his accusations. Obviously his firing was justified, he was clearly unstable and dangerous. The death of Dorner is a good thing. Pity that more criminals like him are not killed before tax dollars are wasted keeping this trash alive in jails and prisons. Extermination for all repeat offenders would go a long way towards reducing crime and wasting taxpayer money on losers.

I don't care what the circumstances, unless you are in physical harm, taking anyone's life has no justification. He did so because they were corrupt and did not " clear his name." So, to prove what a solid citizen you are you create a manifesto and kill people??? Terrific logic. However, this guy was mentally ill well before this incident. I am sure that he exhibited some of these psychological problems prior. For whatever reason he gave into his animal instinct. As humans we have the ability to rationalize behavior he chose otherwise. That makes Dorner or any one expressing similar behavior an animal. A rabid animal needs to be eliminated for the safety of the population and so did Dorner. I hope there is a Hell for guys like this, suicide is too easy.

The guy was trained too kill and kill he did, but I it would have been good to get him alive.

I understand that when your being shot at in a fire fight you don't always have that luxury but too burn the place down?

You had the guy totally surrounded in a good area it was just a matter of time before he did himself in or became tired or made some mistake.

I do think he should have been treated like a murderer a cop killer, but not burned down.

Just a little over kill if you ask me....mind you some would argue that one with me because of who he killed.

No, the cops started the fire by shooting gas into the cabin.

Most reports indicate that the fire was started by the type of flashbang grenades being used by the police. While the specific type used are known to be a fire hazard, they didn't walk up and flamethrower the place, they just decided it was worth the risk of a fire to keep from being shot by the man with the assault rifle in the house. Also, it should be noted that Dorner died from a single gunshot wound to the head, which the coroner has declared self-inflicted (video evidence supports this, as a single, distinct gunshot can be heard from inside the cabin after the fire started). So, pray, tell, how can police take a suspect alive who is actively shooting at them when not suppressed, and who takes his own life the moment he is faced with having to surrender?

I am with the many that Dorner had no business taking innocent down, however, we did not walk in this man's shoes and we do not know how he treated after he filed his complaint. I have heard in the US there is bullying in large corporations and you don't think he suffered bullying and other horrific actions by his fellow officers.

Yes, he took 2 peoples' lives, but when have you seen such a manhunt on for one individual in such as this case. I believe there should be an outside audit done on Dorner's former department to find out if there was and is real truth to his words.

Again, I do not condone Dorner's actions, however, there needs to be an investigation why to this man snapped and went over the edge.

CNN, Mike Brookds former FBI and others are all calling for a formal investigation. We have the right to the truth. Try to read the article, connect the dots and get there. You might want to look up the Rampart investigation. If we are to hold them to a higher standard then they themselves have to be honest and forthright. Not dirty. Teresa Evans of the LAPD was a dirty copwith numerous brutality charges against her. San Bernardion Sheriffs are now say their officer may have been killed by friendly fire. I feel bad that anyone has to suffer for any reason. BUT there should be no sympathy for Dorner. He proved they were justified in removing him from the force. For those who claim the police are unfair and brutal, do they normally walk up to a car and murder two, unarmed people? If he was more than willing to ambush and shoot armed police officers (who had nothing to do with his removal) isn't he the same as the worst terrorist or criminal? It seems like the protesters should be grateful that they removed a cop they would have been complaining about in the future. If he believed in The System enough to want to be a police officer then he should have taken the high road and used that System to have cleared his name. It is the protesters praising his Manifesto that scare me far more than any LA police officer.

At one point in time Dorner was probably a good an justice man. But Dorner truly died once he decided to kill innocent people. His anger and lust for revenge was his downfall. Whatever is left of him is nothing but a monster, a crispy burnt monster. The LAPD might of stained his name, but at the end, he buried it to deep to dig up.

So the protesters wanted Dorner to have a fair trial and go to court for due process. Hello, people this was a former soldier/police officer sharp shooter having a huge mental breakdown. He sat down and wrote a manifesto. There is no way this would end up in court. There was win or lose, live or die for Dorner. The P.D had to respond in such a way. Notice how they cover there faces? They do that because they are ashamed for doing what they are doing. If they really believed in it they wouldn't be afraid to show their faces.

Not to worry Smootheasy, As I said in my earlier post's, HQ from across the street I'm sure had high tech software focused out their windows that identified every protester there (mask or no mask) & commited self suicide for the rest of their lives! lol They just lost their privacy & will be watched & followed until they die too! "Show me your company & I'll tell ya who ya are" lol real dopes they are!

There was no way this would end up in court - because there was no way this man was going to allow himself to be brought in alive. It was his decision to shoot himself, his decision to set the building on fire, and his decision to kill others -- there is no justification.
