One of the two suspects who was the subject of an intense manhunt following a shootout with detectives at a West Kendall, Fla., home has been found dead in an apparent suicide, police said Wednesday.
Miami-Dade Police confirmed that the body of Dell Peter DiGiovanni was found in the area of Southwest 48th Terrace and Southwest 147th Place, as officers conducted a massive manhunt following the Tuesday night shootout.
The discovery came just hours after a burned body was found inside the home in the 15400 block of Southwest 57th Street where the incident began. The body found in the home hasn't been identified.
Police had been searching for Digiovanni, 50, and relative Michael Steven DiGiovanni, 28, following the shooting that happened around 7:15 p.m. when detectives approached the home and came under fire from the suspects.

As detectives returned fire, the house caught fire, police said. None of the officers were injured.
A third suspect, Brian Kelly Howell, 29, was taken into custody after officers set up a perimeter from Miller Drive to 64th Avenue and from SW 142nd Avenue to SW 157th Avenue, Miami-Dade Police said.
Police had said Dell and Michael DiGiovanni were said to be on the run and likely armed and dangerous.
Miami-Dade Police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said the suspects were related but the exact nature of their relationship was unknown.
Zabaleta had earlier said there was still a possibility that someone, including one of the suspects, could be inside the house that was set on fire.
"We have not been able to enter or process the house itself because of the fact that it's still considered to be unsafe, fire has not been able to get to it because it's still too hot," Zabaleta said Wednesday.
When officers and firefighters entered the home Wednesday morning, they discovered the body.
Police said it wasn't immediately clear if all of the men shot at police. Narcotics units were investigating a possible grow house at the home, police said.

"These individuals obviously attempted to kill an officer so the very minimum you're gonna have attempted murder on a law enforcement officer," Zabaleta said of the charges they'll face.
Neighbor Rodrigo Ruez said he heard what sounded like automatic guns and backup fire.
"It sounded like the world was ending because everybody was panicking, 'cause everybody heard the shootings,” said Ruez, who was minutes away from his home when he heard the gunshots.

Smoke had billowed out of the burning home late Tuesday and into Wednesday morning as Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel waited in the area, ready to move in at a moment's notice.
Dozens of police officers were on the scene Tuesday, some of them walking around with rifles.
Some West Kendall residents were kept away from their homes as police searched. Ashley Diaz, like dozens of people, could not get into her home.
She said she was coming back from Target when she found her way blocked, so she stopped at a gas station – where she had been ever since.
“We’re stuck. We can’t go that way, we can’t go that way,” Diaz said, pointing in opposite directions.

The perimeter mostly impacted two housing developments in the area – Lakes of the Meadows and Westwood Lakes.
"This is where I live, and it’s just not safe anymore," said displaced resident Anthony Guzman. "People have kids growing up here. It’s not right.”

With all of the attention being give to the poor victims of gun violence, has it ever entered anyone's mind to give equal audience to those who have deterred a violent gun attack on themselves or by interceding for another; or been the victor over one of these sycopaths. We hear very little of the many crimes that are averted by the criminal knowing or finding out that he/she is up against an armed adversary. Why doesn't Mr Obama go before the camera with a group of these people sitting behind him? Why does he not invite the growing number of law enforcement professionals who support the properly trained and qualified citizens who see the ever growing possibility of being under one of these attacks or an intrusion in his/ her own home and so doing take preemptive precaution to strive to live another day?

if you want an honest answer, i wouldn't use any of my semi-auto rifles to defend my home INSIDE of my home. i have a Mossberg TR500 shotgun and a Kahr CW45 (the pistol is my daily carry and when not being carried stays locked beside my bed in a fingerprint gun safe) for defense inside of my home and my wife has a Sprinfield XDM9 (that is also locked away on her side in another safe). i keep my rifles in 1 of 2 gun safes at all times and would use them for defense of my property OUTSIDE of the home

Badguys can be stopped from having weapons and being armed. So can the mentally unfit. It simply requires the cooperation of the firearms community. Other countries do it. And they count gun deaths in the hundreds, not tens of thousands.
1) 100% background checks for all sales. (No exceptions) Mandatory reporting to a national database, with the name a firearms license number of the buyer..
2) A national gun registry, so straw buyers can be put out of business.
3) A firearms license system, so legit gun owners can easily identify themselves to gun dealers and private sellers. (Basically the same system used for cars)
4) Require a license for all sales of firearms related materials. Especially ammunition and any components for self loaders.
5) Mandatory reporting to a national background check database, by doctors and mental health professionals, for all persons who show signs of mental instability.
6) Require the confiscation of any firearms from anyone that has a history of violence, or making threats. Especially in domestic abuse situations and divorce/separation scenarios.
6) require all gun owners to store unattended weapons in a locked storage device. (to reduce thefts)
Gun owners must be required to cooperate, in the interest of public safety. Inconvenience isn't an excuse. Gun control will save countless lives.
Most of these drug dealers and gang members have criminal records of some kind. There's no reason they should be armed. Its only due to lax laws and poor enforcement that they are. That can be changed if the will to do it is there. (juvenile records should be added to the national database)
There should also be an appeal process and a pardon system. For those people who can show they have become responsible citizens. But there should be special restrictions and lifetime probation for them.

The Second Amendent is on the side of the people, NOT the Government. Our Second Amendment is just fine without anyone infringing on my Second Amendment Rights. The death of a mentally disabled man in police custody has been ruled a homicide, the Frederick County Sheriff's Office said Friday.
The Maryland state medical examiner determined that 26-year-old Robert Saylor of New Market, who had Down syndrome, died of asphyxia last month.

A police spokesperson said Saylor died after resisting arrest by three deputies at a the Regal Cinemas Westview Stadium 16 in Frederick. An employee had called police because Saylor wouldn't leave his seat after a movie shortly after 11 p.m. on Jan. 12.
Bailey says Saylor cursed at the deputies, and then began having a medical emergency as deputies began to escort from the theater in handcuffs.
Deputies immediately removed the handcuffs and called for emergency medical services, authorities say.
Evidence will be given to the state's attorney's office for review after the investigation is complete. The Frederick County Bureau of Investigation is still conducting follow-up interviews with witnesses. Meanwhile, all three deputies remain on regular duty.

BTW, to clarify something you apparently don't know or understand. "Homicide" is a term used to define the unnatural death of a human being. Once the coroner has determined it was a homicide they then have to determine what kind of homicide. It could be suicide, murder, accidental, etc.
Bottom line is you are making assumptions and drawing conclusions based on very little facts.

BTW, the so called assault weapons you want banned so badly constitute a tiny, tiny percentage of the gun violence in this country. In 2011 only 323 deaths were caused by "assault weapons". Over 400 were caused by a blunt object.
So the cry to ban "assault weapons" is only a feel good move by the anti 2nd Amendment crowd and a chance to get their foot in the door for more bans in the future.

You do know that an assault rifle is one that has fully AUTOMATIC capabilities. Not just semi-automatic. My .22 squirrel gun is a semi-automatic rifle. It is NOT an assault rifle.

actually there were 496 deaths by blunt instruments in 2011 while only 323 deaths my RIFLES...not just semi-automatic rifles. all rifles. that includes everything from bolt-action hunting rifles, lever action rifles, to black powder rifles. so the numbers of death by these so calles assault rifles is probably alot less.
but you are correct in the fact that these firearms that they want to ban do in fact constitue a very small percentage of the violence in this country. this is just a feel good move by the left and will have no impact on gun violence in the country

Because of lax gun laws,enforcement and too many loop holes in weapons laws,it is way too easy for criminals and the insane too get weapons. Straw men dealers who buy weapons legally and sell them to anyone they please are a big problem Severe penalties are needed for any weapons violations,and careless gun owners who violate the law should be punished too. Life in prison for any felon who possesses a weapon for starters. Straw men dealers selling guns illegally should get minimum 20 year sentences .
