A Hood County woman who was arrested after calling 911 to ask for cigarettes now admits it was a frivolous request and says she regrets it.
Linda White, 48, of Granbury, called 911 at about 1 a.m. on Feb. 11 and asked deputies to make a delivery.
"I need some cigarettes," she said in a recording of the call.
On Tuesday, she apologized and tried to explain.
"We were just kicking it in the back yard -- a few beers too many," she said. "Next thing you know, we're out of cigarettes. Well, I didn't want to drive to town. ... I was drunk, you know, but in my back yard."
"Who's the safest person to call?" she asked. "Your police department, I thought."
Drunk or not, the sheriff's office said 911 is reserved for emergencies.
"A call for deputies to bring cigarettes to the resident is not an emergency call," Hood County Chief Deputy Biff Temple said.
Two deputies responded and found White and her boyfriend, Gary Roberts.
"I just saw bright lights and knew," White said.
Roberts said he knew White was in trouble.
"I knew, because I told her, 'Somebody is fixing to go to jail,'" he said.
White was booked on a charge of abusing 911, a misdemeanor punishable by up to a $2,000 fine and 180 days in jail.
She was released on bond about six hours later, she said.
"I am deeply sorry for what I did," she said in an interview outside her home. "I'm embarrassed. It's not me."
"It is kind of funny," she said laughing.
White added that she learned the hard way not to call 911 with a frivolous request.
"They don't deliver -- they pick up," she said.

at least she IS remorseful and will have a very funny story to tell her grandkids someday when the pain of the fine is long gone.....

I figure she is an Obama supporter, the government gives her everything else why not deliver a pack of smokes.

So she called up 911 drunk and probably took up 1 minute of time...I don't quite see that as "abuse" of 911. I find it more pathetic that a cop actually had the time to go over after that and arrest her...seriously, if the police had the time to do that, then they had the extra 2 minutes it would have taken to stop by the store on the way over and pick her up some smokes.
They don't like them educated people in Texas,as this woman is the poster girl for the Texas educational system.
I called 911 once because the fecal matter I was trying to expel from my body, wouldn't go. HHHHuuuunnn, aaahhhhhh... nothing.
By the time they answered the call, it did leave.
I know how I would respond..

It's not funny if you're tying up the phone lines and preventing other urgent calls from coming in, and if you're wasting police resources for a prank.

She thinks it's all a big joke. Thank god there wasn't a real emergency, or maybe the 911 operators would have hung up on her and she would have called back.
I hope she gets a wopping big fine, and can't afford to buy cigarettes, or maybe she should lay off the beer.

If you are drunk and you call 911 for cigarette delivery.... you might be a red neck.
I have to admit, she made me chuckle. You can get jail time and a huge fine in this country pretty easy nowadays. We pulled phone pranks as kids all the time - probably be charged for stalking or felony talking nowadays. Some people don't let the governmental bull$hit effect their sense of humor.
