Cops: Villanova student secretly filmed women undressing, posted to porn site

Villanova University student Tyler Jones is facing felony charges after police say he secretly recorded three women and uploaded the videos to a pornography website.

PHILADELPHIA -- A Villanova University student is facing felony charges after police say he secretly recorded three women and uploaded the videos to a pornography website.

A friend of one of the victims alerted her after seeing the video online. Police say it shows the woman undressing, and her bare breasts are exposed.

Tyler Jones admitted to police that he secretly hid his iPhone in the bathroom to record the woman and then uploaded it to a porn site from his dorm room at Villanova.

While police were investigating, they say two other victims were discovered. One of the victims was 17 years old at the time of the recording.

Jones is charged with dissemination and possession of child pornography, invasion of privacy, obscene materials on the Internet and criminal use of a communication facility.

He posted bail after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing yesterday.

Jones has taken a leave of absence this semester from Villanova.

I dont understand why he would do that and post it on a web site witout thinking he would get caught. People think they are anonymous on the web. They are not. You do something stupid and your internet provider can track you FAST.

@Dem in Texas-2291575, web sites are immune from being held responsible for things that its users post. They would only have the responsibility to remove it, and report it to the police, IF they even realized that the woman was under 18. The young woman can't even sue the site, and frankly, rightly so. If we allowed such law suits, companies would be sued out of business frequently for something they did not do.

He would probably take that punishment 100x over to what he's going to get. He'll have a record of producing child porn; a prison sentence, and be unemployable once he gets out -- with college debt to boot.

What this guy did was reprehensible and criminal and the victims could require mental health. Most NV readers are probably aware that (some of) our school aged CHILDREN are experiencing stuff like this. Some are being video'd (school, home, friends house) with and without their knowledge. Many children become horrified/traumatized when it is realized that these personal videos stemming from "fun and games" do not remain "just with their friend(s)." In most cases, families try to keep the "authorities" out of the loop because the current laws about this fail to address many aspects (of youth related involvement) and are still in development. The technology the children have access to is beyond their maturity level to handle. Education about the benefits and dangers is "preached till we're blue in the face" but the problem continues. Families do not (cannot) adequately monitor their childen's activities. It (seems to me) that we have to keep moving the "standards" to prevent the kids from getting (unnecessary?) criminal records.

Obviously he's not enrolled in criminal science. But i do have to say this story is incomplete so the author should take journalism 101 over again. First off, the story leaves you wondering how a 17 yo girl was attending Villanova since the story states he filmed his victims in the bathroom. Second, was that the bathroom of HIS dorm....her dorm...on campus general rest room...faculty rest room.....off campus rest room...etc etc.? next, the story doesn't state how old he is. Thus, is he 17 yo...18yo...etc etc?

speakthetruth - the first victim discovered was filmed in 'the bathroom', with no clarity of whose bathroom it is. In all accounts, it doesn't really matter, does it? The article never stated that the 17 year old victim was attending Villanova, and just because he filmed her in 'the bathroom', it did not mean any campus bathroom. I realize you want to know where these were filmed, but again, does it really matter?

To answer your question in regards to his age, perhaps the author could not get clarification of his age before time of publication. In any event, you can extract the fact that he is an adult (18 years old or more) because minor children's information does not get published (I know, I know, unless charged as an adult, which these charges don't warrant).

First off, the story leaves you wondering how a 17 yo girl was attending Villanova since the story states he filmed his victims in the bathroom.

Even if he's also 17yr old he can be charged with making child porn. Heck, some prosecutors have even charged teens for filming themselves. Statutory rape laws often have protection for close age ranges, child porn laws don't.

If he was consensually filming another 17yr old, he'd have some pretty novel legal arguments, and probably some bigwig ACLU lawyer calling him right now. But he didn't have her consent, and he posted it online .... so he's toast, regardless of his age.

My wife started college at 17, my daughter will also, if she goes immediately after finishing school and doesn't take a year out.

I fail to see why it matters what bathroom it was in? He set up a camera and recorded them without their knowledge and then put the footage online without their consent. I'm going to assume you are inferring that they could have been in his dorm room voluntarily and getting up to 'stuff' with him. Doesn't matter in any case, as what he did would still be illegal.

I also fail to see what his age really matters, but we can assume he's at least 17 and likely 18 or older. Whatever age he is, he's at a college and should know better.

My birthday is in December. When I graduated HS I was 17 and when I started college that Septamber I was 17.

Back then, dorms were not coed. As a result, we weren't very modest in the community bathrooms. However, a young man would have difficulty accessing girls' bathrooms in girls' dorms.

Throw the book at this guy. He is way too young to be starting this stuff. There is no question this behavior would escalate.

speakthetruth-2459907 My oldest daughter began college at 17. The 17 year girl could have been born in January or graduated high school early, but as Debra mentioned, what difference does it make in the scheme of things. The guy has messed up his future, embarrassed his parents and more importantly violated and traumatized several young women.

17 years old, 18 . . . Does it matter? If this kid just got out of high school and is not interested in dating or having a social circle of some kind to enjoy life with? And so young still, what was his childhood like?

Uh, how do you figure? Villanova is ridiculously expensive ($42k per year, NOT including room & board), even if he got a federal fellowship/scholarship, it likely wouldn't cover the full cost.

Why not just make one heck of an example of him? Strip him naked, apply hot tar and feathers then ride him out of town on a rail. Post the video to a website dedicated to dealing with dum basses and let it be a lesson to others not to do such a stupid thing. One link on Drudge should make him feel small enough to drown in a thimble. Another option might be to hand him over to nasty dominatrix with a big gay slave to use as a sex toy and post that video.

Of course there is the tried and true method of simply turning him over to the girls' boyfriends, brothers and fathers for a sound thrashing. At the end of the thrashing, the girls should don their most pointy toed boots and apply a couple of good swift kicks to his genitalia. It will help them heal from the humiliation. Considering the number of women involved, that punishment might take a few applications over time since you don't want them to beat him to death. Now I am certain that the Supreme Court would declare such a method of dealing with an idiot cruel, they usually do when the punishment fits the crime. I am certain that getting his backside beaten severely would lead him to understand the error of his ways.

They need a class, especially for men. Indiscretions and other stuff that will instantly destroy your life. There's no recovery from this. His college will be a waste; no employer will touch him.

Can't even get hired as a janitor (access to bathrooms / heating vents equals opportunity to install cameras = negligent hiring). Don't know what to say, what a loss.

It's okay to arm everyone in the Country so the have the ability to kill at a moments notice, but you will go to jail if you have a photo of someones breast!

In case you haven't got the memo...it's a crime to kill people too. I don't know how you relate the two. And you don't go to jail for having a picture of someone's breast...you go to jail for violation of privacy, child porn, and the host of other crimes he committed. Of course, you may be on to something, background check and fingerprinting to buy a cell phone and registration of said phone. Agents should be able to come inspect your phone at any moment. No high capactiy memory chips...maybe a federal tax stamp to upload anything from a cell phone. Sounds great.

Rw: Bag was the funny one. All you did was try to inject gun S#it into another unrelated topic. Nothing clever about your posts.

Rweber, one can be "killed" with words and this kind of exposure as well. Stay on point.

If it was my dauighter.. or friend.. This guy would get several beatings till he could not stand up... one each ..for each picture.... Spread the bewatings out for several days. Then his dad would get a beating for not teaching his bastid son.. some personal responsibility, and respect for women in general.
