LOS ANGELES -- An 11-year-old girl was able to escape from her kidnapper’s car on Thursday and free another young girl who was already in the backseat crying when the victim was forcibly pulled into the attacker’s red convertible, according to police.
The girl was walking alone at 2:35 p.m. local time (5:35 p.m. ET) by Founders Park in Whittier, Calif., when she was grabbed and thrown into the backseat of a car, where a younger girl -- about 7 years old -- was already seated, officials said in a news release.
"She knew at that point, I guess, that she was in a bad spot," said Lt. Kent Miller with Whittier police.
Miller said he was not sure about the circumstances that led to the girls’ escape, saying there was an "opportunity" and the pair, who did not know each other, ran in opposite directions.
The 11-year-old ran home and called 911. Police are unsure of where the other girl is, though the department has not received any reports of missing children.
Police believe the man may be responsible for similar incidents in the area and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.
On the morning of Feb. 5, a 17-year-old girl was offered a ride from a man driving a red convertible. When she declined, the driver stopped the car and opened the door before the girl fled and called police.

That incident happened at 11:35 a.m. in the 13000 block of Broadway, several blocks from where Thursday’s attack occurred, police said.
Hours later at 4:40 p.m., a witness reported seeing two high-school-aged girls get into a verbal confrontation with a man who ordered the pair to get into his car in the 6700 block of Washington Avenue.
Police said the witness did not get the girls’ names and the department did not receive any calls from the alleged victims in this case.
In all three incidents, the man was seen driving a red convertible with a tan roof. He is described as Latino, between 25 and 35 years old, about 5 feet 11 inches to 6 feet tall, with a medium to heavy build.
Thursday’s victim said the man had short black hair and a tattoo of three dots on his left hand.
Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the Whittier Police Department at 562-567-9241 or Detective Woods at 562-567-9286.

Thank God the 11-yr-old had the presence of mind to somehow escape and also save the 7-yr-old. I hope someone catches this POS in the act and beats him silly (of course somehow in self-defense) before they turn him over to the police. If this guy is so persistent he has probably, unfortunately, succeeded before - seems pretty confident that he will get away with kidnapping these girls and doesn't seem to have much discretion on the age since they seem to range from 7 to 17. Hope he is caught very soon - red convertible with tan top doesn't seem to be too difficult to find.
As a parent, I teach my children similar circumstances and it seems the 11 yr old's parents did the same and she listened.
People like this guy have got to be dreanged man. Especially the fact that he kidnapped the 7 yr old but still couldn't get enough and also went for the 11 yr old.

Yes, Creek Dog. As horrible as it is to even have to have these conversations, I have taught my 8-year-old daughter that it is better to take a bullet, and do whatever necessary to escape, than it is to be dragged into a car, when she will never get away.

It is truely a miracle for sure but why is not only an 11yr old walking the streets alone but 7yrs old..really? If i were the police..i'd be tracking down the all the owners of red convertibles with tan roofs in that city and surrounding areas and see who matches that description before this sick SOB starts plucking kids off the streets and then no one will ever see those babies again..ughhhhhh.
Pretty good description including the car. I don't think would be long before they catch up to him. Sadly due to are amazing and effective justice system these are the type of people that make it back on the streets while severely punishing two 15 year olds for texting pics at each other.

He could very well still have the 7 year old. I would feel better if they were making the effort to at least confirm her whereabouts. They could use a description from the 11 year old.

The article stated the police don't know where the 7 year old is. That doesn't mean there isn't a 7 year old little girl being held by a monster. It could be her mothers boyfriend or her step father. It could be the girl was part of a human trafficking ring bringing children from south of the border so some illegal can say I have a child in school don't deport me? Our government is creating monsters with its ideas of who can stay and who should go. Deport them all and we won't have people trying to have children over night.

There are probably 200,000 vehicles in the LA area that would match that description,how would you say the police go about chasing down each person that owned one? Of course that also assumes that the vehicle is registered to the one that was driving,it is registered in the LA area ect.
As to all the folks saying why was this 11 year old out on the street at 2:30 in the afternoon I would assume she was coming home from school. Some parents both work and while it is sad some kids go home after school alone ( I did ). While I personally think people like these, when caught, should be doused with gas and set on fire in a public arena I am always amazed how people jump on the band wagon about " I teach my kids to stay away from strangers " when over 90% of molestation cases are done by people the children know and trust. Just my comments, sorry if I offend anyone.

Creeek Dog - I didn't read anything in the article about a "Man upstairs" . Perhaps he's the mastermind behind the whole thing.
Good work on the part of the 11 year old - not only assessed the situation, found an escape, and rescued the other girl, but also had enough presence of mind to remember identifying details about the abductor. That's one smart cookie.
Unfortuately, you know this guy will try this again. My most sincere hope is that he does so with an older girl who's been in martial arts for several years and who can and will kick his butt 3 ways to Sunday before calling the cops. I hope he hasn't actually hurt anyone yet.
As for the 7 year old, chances are she didn't tell her parents and that's why they haven't identified her. As a child you're always told not to get in the car with a stranger. Even though it's likely she was forced into the vehicle, she may be afraid of getting in trouble for doing something wrong.
All of these "anti-God" people posting about Creek Dog's comment should just keep your opinion to yourself. If he feels that the man upstairs, aka, GOD was looking out for these girls, how does that offend you? This is not a public school or workplace, it is a public forum where people can make opinions. Freedom of religeon works both ways, you have the right to believe in God just as much as you have the right not to. Why would you put someone down for their beliefs? Once again Chris, you atheists have gotten it wrong. But, since you refuse to listen what's the point of explaining it all once again. God is not a "sky fairy" nor is he a figment of someone's imagination. He is very real. He is omnipotent, and could prevent evil ... if he chose. He created the universe and all that is in it (oddly enough all of science cannot prove differently except in your imagination), a little evil should be a piece of cake. He choses not to interfere because he has given man free will. Man (generically, of course) has chosen to create evil with his free will. God tells us to be accountable for ourselves, and ask forgiveness for our mistakes. People like you refuse to do that, so live with the evil you have created. Live with the curse of God upon you in this life, and ultimately in eternity as well.

For all of you asking who lets their 11 or 7 year old "wander around alone" you need to know that 2:30 is when school gets out in this neighborhood, and a large number of kids will be walking home from school at that time. The neighborhood is generally a quiet and safe one, as most suburbs are. As to tracking down every red convertible in Southern California, good luck!

Im on the pro gun side, and as a rule of thumb, if you say Im surprised the other sides hasnt said this dumb thing, know it makes the side you represent look worse.
This story at least had a happy ending, and Im proud of the 11 year old for saving the other girl too and not just herself. She is a real hero, and I would love to see her rewarded or congratulated in some way. Maybe some type of medal or something. At the very least, knowing the type of car it is could stop people from getting near them. Whenever kids see a red convertable now, they'll know to stay away. I think people who kidnap children should never see the light of day again. Same goes for molesters and rapers of children.

My question is, if the police had had reports from three other parents prior to this incident in less than a week or two that this person, in this same vehicle, had attempted to entice children into his vehicle, why were they not patrolling the area?
What, is the area too poor, or the children walking those streets, probably going to and from school, not of the economic strata that warrants some effort to secure their safety?
A damn street camera could surely have been moved from some traffic speed trap to that area to try and catch a pedophile abductor. You can't tell me the City Council couldn't have approved the man power to move one freaking camera to try and save some children.

The chemicals in, and makeup of your brain are what make you who you are. If you screw either or both of those up somehow you change. I don't see where a divine creature comes into play here. Our brains are similar to (albeit more evolved and with a higher order neocortex) other primate brains (we evolved from more simple primates, not a chimpanzee or any of the other primates around now, that's what evolution is if anyone was wondering. We are now who those other primates once were but "better"). Primate brains are not far from other mammals like mice, rats, dolphins, etc. If there is a "god" it is amoral (look that one up).
No sir. No scientist will ever chalk ALL that you are up to the simple structure of your brain and the chemicals it produces. Scientist do not even know all the workings of that system and they indeed do not know much about the universe at large. Speak to a scientist and they will tell you this..
Structure and chemical makeup is one component of personality and personality is actually separate from what some would call a soul. a personality changes according to it's experience in life and the amount of contact it has with other personalities. The soul if you will is what determines how you react to the information your exposed too.
Most scientists will also tell you that the brain is functionally more then the sum of it's parts. Even if you look at animals, the same generally goes for their brains and indeed we do not have a much better understanding of what makes most animals brains work.
Then there is this... DNA. ok, so fine, we can go the Stephan Hawking way of thinking about the universe and everything in it ( including DNA ) and that is that everything in the universe exists because thats just the way it happened. No one had to create it for us to be here because all life just happened. problem is that DNA is a set of highly organized DNA made up of components that in and of themselves are not alive. I.E. NON of the materials you are made of right down to the atomic level are alive.
So, how dose evolution even start? How do you come to highly ordered geometric shapes containing data ( Helix and DNA )? All of it is made of ordinary star dust just like all the heavy elements. What happened to turn all the NON LIVING material that your made up of into something that was alive and how did that life arrange it's self into complex data?
From a pure scientific view, you need to wait for science to answer some of these questions before you dismiss god as a total fantasy. Even Steven Hawking has never directly said that he can prove god dose not exist, he simply states that he believes no god was necessary.
This also brings up 1 other point.. If the math that these scientists use to describe the universe has not provided proof that god can not exist, then that to is saying something.

This is my OPINION; this guy was taking a big gamble trying to kidnap 2 girls at once; I bet he is involved in a child/teenage trafficing ring. The police seemed not to have made public the info regarding the attempted kidnap of the 17 year old. Now that it is public that he drives a red, tan-hooded convertible, I doubt he will attempt to use this vehicle again in this area, or will move to a different location. As for the 7 year old; maybe she was know to the kidnapper and warned to keep her mouth shut, or maybe she told her parent(s) and wasn't believed, didn't tell them because she was somewhere we she wasn't supposed to be, maybe her parent(t) is here illegally and didn't want police involvement, or maybe, maybe, maybe...In any event; this is a very scary thing that can happen in any town or neighborhood. There are people who do evil things, no matter whether you believe they are in league with the devil, or simply morally corrupt. Considering the age ranges of the victims, from 17 all the way down to 7, it sounds like he may be involved in human trafficking, though not very good at his "job" of "recruiting". But, Bush? well, it was a republican congress during the Clinton administration, approximately 1999 if my memory serves, who rescinded the rules that prevented financial institutions from recklessly investing money, especially in derivatives. you could argue it was Clinton's fault, but he signed the bill because he knew that the republican congress would override his veto, which they did many times anyway. Roll forward to the next administration, Bush, taking office 18 months later, who continued to support the wild investing that banks were doing even though many financial experts were saying, the bubble is going to burst. He was not going to interfere in anything that made a lot of money for the business sector at the time, because, if there was a collapse, he would bail out the economy with taxpayers money. which is what he did. Remember, it was in Sept 2008 that his called for passage of the $700 billion dollar bailout plan, while Bush was still in office, and prior to the election. Do you understand that point now?

It makes me nauseated and ticked off to high heaven at the same time, to think someone is out there actively attempting to snatch more little children from off the streets. I'm so grateful those girls got away and hope people will be able to find him before he succeeds. I have a feeling lots of folks are trying to help.

My neighborhood is relatively nice and I still make it a point to periodically remind my child how to respond, what to look for, and in general that there are some nasty people out there. She's in her teens now and I don't think I've gone six months without doing this her entire life. People need to prepare their kids for the ugly in life.
Hope that seven year old got away. What is it with these things that think that they have the right to do this to a child, or a young woman. We need morals in this world again. I also told my kids to run any time that someone stopped an unknown car by them. Run and shout "Fire!" since help doesn't seem to do the trick any more.
That's been the advice of self defense trainers for years. Don't cry "rape" or "help", but cry "fire" instead - a fire is something that may directly affect other people and they are more willing to step in and take action or at least check it out for that reason. Sad, but if it works I guess it doesn't matter.
As for needing morals in this world again; immorality has been around since the beginning of man. Children and young men and women have been used as sexual slaves since the beginning of time; the methods of the perpetrators may have become a bit more sophisticated, but the crime is the same.
Hope this story gets updated - would love to know how the girls were able to get free. We need to know as much as possible about this guy so he can be caught.
One thing we do know so far - Whatever he is trying to do - Kidnapping is not where his expertise lies - he is not very good at it because thankfully every one seems to be able to get free.

Usually these people will change their vehicle and area that they scope out once they know that they are being looked for. The guy was stupid not to use some kind of cover-up to mask his distinctive tatoo.
Well we don't know yet the whereabouts of the 7 yo as she run on the opposite direction and who knows she may have been grabbed again by this fellow. So we need an update on this story asap.
The story said no children had been reported missing, so I doubt he grabbed her again. And why do you "need" an update? Will that somehow make it better, or are you just some kind of weird voyeur?
So many parents don't have a clue where their children are much of the time. The parent(s) of the 7-yr old could be passed out somewhere. Or the scumbag could be the mother's boyfriend.
I know there has always been evil in the world; I think that we're just hearing about more of it in the media today. How some of these kids survive is beyond me...

Agreed. (I'm sure you don't mean you "nee to know" as in a basic need) It bothers me that the authorities are not concerned enough for the welfare of the 7 year old that they would at least establish her whereabouts.
Perhaps she was with a babysitter or grandmother who wasn't even aware she was gone and still isn't aware. Regardless of why they didn't know she was gone or didn't report she was missing, if this were one of my children when they were young, I would expect that the authorities would make sure she was safe somewhere even if I didn't know she was missing.
There is enough information from the 11 year old and all of the reported attempts by a man fitting his description to warrant looking for her.
Sometimes, if the parents are here illegally, they will not report to the police anything, so they don't get deported.

What is an eleven (11) year old walking by herself anywhere so to me the parents should be spoken to because this should have never happened in the first place.

I realize that LA is a really different world, but what kind of a world is it when an 11 year old girl can NOT go anywhere by herself? This is a really sick world, relative morality, any law is subject to debate, if it pleases you, do it - and then we put the blame on the victim! When I was the age of this child, I wandered all around my home area - anywhere my bicycle and I could go, we did it. I had learned to watch for cars, trains and all the real dangers - you just didn't worry about people! Changed world!
I did the same 30 years ago as well with my bike....but no, there were child predators then too. The world hasn't changed in that regard. We are in the information age now, so these stories are now more widely available.
Walking home from school.................So should the parents be spoken to for letting their 11 year old go to school, or should we all be home schooled? or did you not read that she was in running distance to her house. I don't think an 11 year old would be running a marathon just to get home.

It is too bad that the other children involved in narrow escapes haven't informed the police of the attempts of this person. I do hope they have reported this to their parents. It seems if maybe they would have reported the attempts that they could have been looking for him sooner and possibly avoided these other children being put in that situation. Way to go 11 yr old, you are a very special child for not only saving yourself but another child also. Your parents are preparing you wonderfully for the big bad world. It's sad that it has to be that way, but there are too many mental cases in society today.

We excuse everyone when they do something wrong..............they grew up in a rough neighborhood, they did not have a father, their parents (or just mom) had to work two jobs to support the family and did not give them the love they deserved, they were abused (mentally, physically or sexually) as a child and that makes them do this, they are bi-polar, autistic, anti-government, skin heads, a minority, an illegal alien that did not know better.......................this is all bull..............everyone knows right from wrong. I am a member of a large extended family (cousins, aunts and uncles) with individuals who were mentally challenged (in a wide range from mild to severe), downs, cerabal palsy, bi-polar, kids of divorced parents, kids born out of wedlock and the father never participated in the childs life.............I've seen it all up close and personal to even the kids who were sexually abused and physically abused, alcoholic parents ............ I was considered lucky...me and my siblings were deemed normal and my parents did not divorce until we were all grown and on our own. Back to my other family members...................all of them still knew right from wrong and they chose to do wrong in some cases..........others pulled themselves up (continuing to face obsticles daily) but chose the right.

Where were the parents? Why are children allowed to walk the streets alone? Parents - Dads especially, stand up and own your responsibility - take diligent care of your children. Nothing is as important as the safety and proper development of your child. Any other responsibility pales by far in comparison to that of taking care of your child. May God protect the little girl who has not been found - and may she soon be found safe and returned to the loving arms of her parents.

Time for Americans to do one of two things: either give LA back to Mexico, build a fence to north and east of it, or go out for a really big stakes game of cowboys and drug runners. Alternate suggestion: bring all our guys back from Afghanistan, Iraq, Germany, France and elsewhere. Bring them, guns, equipment and all, into NY, Boston and DC airports. Point them South and West, tell them to clean out the illegals. I figure by the time the troops got to Pennsylvania, roads to Mexico would be full of buses, trucks and jumping cars, loaded down with passengers. When the troops get to the border, tell them to start building camps and a perimeter fence. After that, our guys could come home on weekend passes, improve the local economies and reduce money going out of country. What's not to love?
We don't know about the 7 year old, did she make it or not? No reports, no body wants to "get involved" yet a freaking latino predator is stalking the streets in a red convertable with a tan roof, accosting teens and now pre-teens, assaults, kidnapping and who knows what else and where are the "citizens" at? Being a citizen means you stand up for your neighbors as well as yourself. This POS is probably stealing children for child prostitution gangs in Mexico and the "citizens" are sticking the heads in the sand. Where's the protests demanding the cops do their job? If this seven year old hasn't turned up, he probably was able to recapture her. This is terrible.
If she were kidnapped, that would have been reported. We have no evidence of her disappearance, or her safety. The reality of the situation is that at the moment, we have no evidence that she exists at all...
