Teens quizzed by cops after video shows girls being forced to fight

NEW YORK -- Police say they are questioning two teenagers in connection with an online video of two young girls being forced to fight in a New York City park early last month.

Police began investigating after NBC 4 New York's report earlier this week about the video, which was originally posted on YouTube and then on the website Gothamist. It showed two children being urged to slap and hit one another, while older people in the background jeer and egg the girls on.

The mother of the 7-year-old girl in the black coat -- who is seen crying and walking away at the end of the video -- went to police after recognizing her daughter in a news report. Investigators said the teenage sister of the other girl in the video, the 6-year-old girl in the white coat, instigated the fight.

More news from NBCNewYork.com

Police said the 17-year-old sister apparently felt disrespected when the 12-year-old sister of the girl in the black coat accidentally bumped into an older teen while picking up candy that had been thrown on the ground at Edgar Allan Poe Park in the Bronx a week prior to the filmed fight.

The forced battle happened over the Christmas to New Year break at the Edgar Allan Poe Park on the Grand Concourse, police said. The 12-year-old sister tried to intervene, according to police and a witness, but she was held back by the older teens.

After returning home from speaking with detectives Thursday, the mother of the 7- and 12-year-old girls said only to NBC 4 New York, "Stop cyberbullying."

The two teens were speaking with detectives Thursday. It was unclear what charges they could face.

This is shocking something like this would happen in the utopian, gun free, soda banning, haven of New York. The stresses of mass violence, banned sodas, elitists governors, make this city the cess pool it has become. If you want an example of what your city shouldn't be...its New York. Whatever these jokers who are governing/ruling do, do the exact opposite and that will represent freedom and protection from tyranny. This must be a Democratic State...oh it is...shocker. When are the abortion vending machines coming out...next week??

What a sad example of what America has become and what it is soon the become. Corruptive morality that is being spread out like a parasitic plague all be represented from the top down. Lead by example political leaders...look what are influence and lack of truth and manipulation is doing to this country. You are killing decency and promoting child violence and no you shouldn't promote more abortions to end this type of child violence...I know that was your first thought.

New York is one of the coolest cities in the world.

Dude, have you ever lived in Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, New Orleans, Miami or Los Angeles? Now those are crap cities my friend. Miami is beautiful place, with fine food, with a great night life and great music. You WILL DIE, if you choose to experience those things routinely with the same sense of safety people in New York enjoy.

The bad part about something being awesome is that douche-bags figure out the cool people like it and suddenly it's filled with douche-bags...

Look what happened to Ultimate Fighting and MMA... Fans used to be Judo/Jujutsu, wrestling and boxing enthusiasts with a great deal of knowledge and respect for each other and the spirit of competition.

Now... the fans look and sound like the cast of Jersey Shore.

There is nothing, NOTHING, worse for some people who are sitting in a bar and listening to morons pretend to be experts on a subject they know nothing about except for what they've seen on TV. Except for maybe the guy that has to put up with them so he can keep his gym open on mostly un-used memberships. That's got to suck.

"This must be a Democratic State" Jedi

Not being critical of you, Jedi, but it is incorrect for everyone to call the Democrat Party the Democratic party. The -IC suffix is improperly used in this case. You wouldn't call the Republican Party the Republicanic Party.

I point this out only because there could be a compelling debate as to whether the Democrats are indeed democratic.

Chris-735081,

That is utter rubbish. I don't know about those other places, but I have lived in Boston, NYC and Miami. Except for a small number of specific neighborhoods that you would have to intentionally go into, Miami is extremely safe at all times of the day. Especially the areas that have the good food, good music and good nightlife.

Bashing other cities doesn't help you prove your point unless your point is that you are biased and a bit ignorant.

Really, this is what is being taught as what respect is? Some small minded people and their small arse world they live in.

Jedi - I'm not sure where you are from exactly, but this kind of thing is exactly what New York has always been. When I was growing up in the 80's and 90's, this was the norm and probably would not have even been newsworthy. If anything, the fact that people are reacting so violently to it, shows a progression towards a more healthy, safe society. I feel 10 times safer walking around the streets at night today than I did 20 years ago.

            Obama phones? Seriously?

You do know this program was started by the telecomm industry long before Obama became President, right?

Of course you don't. You believe any negative thing about him. Doesn't matter if is a lie to you, correct?

Glad my hard-earned money is being stolen by the government to pay for Obamaphones, food stamps, and EBT cards for these savages.

Let me add to your ignorance. Maybe if we didn't lose 21 cents off of every dollar we sent to the feds, we would be in a much better financial state. Instead, we are propping up states not pulling their fair share of the weight.

This is news? Ummmmmm......this is how folks roll in da hood!! You think thugs and hoodlums become thugs and hoodlums when they turn 16? Of course if one is not raised in such an environment, one is shocked and appalled by it. The Dr. interviewed is beyond naive to the point of sounding stupid!!! Until people appreciate the fact that the ghetto is a totally different world with a different culture than other American communities, then and only then can some serious action be taken. If this is not admitted, it will be business as usual with this type of behavior, as well as Michelle picking and choosing what funerals of children she will attend as well as future First Ladies. Wake up people!! Well actually, never mind, stay asleep, because it is really too late to do anything about it. Just ask Jesse and Al they know the truth but for years, indeed decades have chosen to profit from it. God bless America!!!

It appears that the news nedia are making a big scandal of every trivial event that supports their agenda of helping the gov't grab more and more control of people's behavior. A lot of the stuff now being escalated in the national/international news is stuff that happened daily all over the country even in the 1950's when I was a kid, but that didn't make even the local news, much less national headlines. But the media are trying to make that stuff look like a severe epidemic to support more legislation and intervention in people's lives under the guise of promoting personal safety.

Another terribly written article. It's pretty sad commentary on the mentality of these children to begin with, but with the way the article is written, it sounds as if the 17 year old sister felt disrespected by the 12 year old when she bumped into another older teen while picking up candy that had been thrown on the ground. For all we know, the idiotic 17 year old may well have had a cow when the 12 year old bumped some other teen and not herself. There's not a lot of potential for high IQs coming out of these communities.

Exactly right coastalchris - Hollywood stars ban together and say all the fluffy words about a utopian society - then they load up the guns and make movies - do our kids imitate art? Sure looks that way.

We need to ban religion from schools and declare morals are what you think they should be. We need to do this immediately - oh wait, we already did - are we surprised at the result? or is this just some young girls having fun?

Funny, I would like to see the parent declare that their kid is gay or something - then it would get national attention - they could walk arm in arm with Jesse or Al.

NJSteve, I think you're right! Schools should teach classes on Scientology! Religion is needed in schools! I want my children to learn things that I disagree with and are based solely on opinion rather than real science right? Who needs to know about evolution? No one's ever going to be a scientist or biologist ever again right?

Their are winners and losers in life. It's the way of the world. Sorry that girl had a bad day and it sucks for her but it's the way of life. Now that video devices are readily available this stuff gets recorded. It used to happen all the time when we were kids. Someone's parent sees it or whatever and now everyone involved needs to be punished excessively and the loser of the fight gets coddled until their "feelings" are all better again. Great way to teach our youth to be dependent.

For some groups it's all about getting "dissed." If they feel the slightest bit dissed then someone either has to die or at least get roughed up. It's just the way it is in the jungle.

I'm so tired of seeing videos of African Americans acting like animals. You want to be treated equally, with respect. You want people to believe you are not violent by nature, but everything from your music, your incarceration percentages, and your videos on worldstarhiphop.com tell a different story. With 70 percent of black kids being born out of wedlock, it's no wonder your entire culture is going down the drain.

I have three sons. I teach them to treat others better than they would like to be treated. I ask them to walk away from trouble when they can, find an adult/teacher if possible, try to work it out with out violence. But............I also tell them that if they get into a situation where there is no way out to fight like thier life depended on it. My sons are good citizens and respectful to thier parents and others, but there seems to be a new breed of person out there who gets pleasure from seeing others in pain.

the gangs of new york. Just think in a couple of years when she gets "disrespected" she can just shoot her, with her illegal gun.

                                          How about outlawing gangs?
