Marine corporal arrested over murder of Camp Pendleton officer

A U.S. Marine was arrested Friday night in California’s Camp Pendleton in connection with the murder of a man whose body was found zipped up inside a sleeping bag in the back seat of a parked car in Fallbrook last month.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, suspect Kevin Albert Richard Coset was taken into custody shortly after 5 p.m. for the murder of Alvin Bulaoro, 24.

Bulaoro was found dead inside a 1997 Toyota 4Runner that was parked in front of the Albertson’s supermarket in the 1100 block of South Mission Road on Jan. 3. Homicide investigators said his body showed signs of trauma and deemed his death suspicious in nature.

Bulaoro had been reported missing by his family and was last seen on Dec. 21, 2012.

Bulaoro’s family pleaded for investigators to find his killer.

“I want justice for my son,” his mother, Josephine Bulaoro, told NBC 7 in an interview back in January.

Bulaoro was enlisted in the Navy for four years. He worked as a human resources officer at Camp Pendleton, helping Marines with pay, benefits and housing issues.

During that time, he got his bachelor's degree. After leaving the Navy, Bulaoro became a lieutenant in the Army.

He returned from training in Texas in November and was set to participate in a ceremony for his commission on Jan. 12 in Los Angeles.

"He told me, 'Mom you're going to be very proud of me,'" his mother previously told NBC 7.

Bulaoro’s brother told NBC 7 the family had hired a private investigator to search for Bulaoro. The private investigator is the person who told the family that Bulaoro’s car had been spotted in the Albertson’s parking lot on Jan. 3.

According to the sheriff’s department, Coset is a corporal in the Marine Corps.

He was taken into custody Friday with the help of NCIS agents and charged with the murder of Bulaoro.

Officials have not released any further details. The motive for the murder remains unknown.

WOW, a whole week of Safety Briefs. It is very apparent that the briefs do not soak in to the thick skulls that are supposed to be listening to them. Of course the ones who are supposed to be listening are not because they know more than the person giving the brief.

They are Marines, they can take it... The focus here should be there is a dead Marine. He has a family. Simper Fi means always faithful, and Marines are always faithful to their own... those who really are Marines. Not murderers, murderers may have a Marine unit, and a Marine rank, but they were never Marines, just paid government employees who sneaked in the door. Marines everywhere despise those who bring dishonor to the Corp.

FYI: This is part of the data upon which I based the inference that "It's probably a gay thing, really . . .":

    (1) It happened in the San Diego area and involved military personnel with U. S. Army, Navy, and Marines orientation . . .

    (2) There was an incident involving two Navy pilots in Coronado, where one Navy pilot shot and killed another Navy pilot and then committed suicide, which I attribute entirely to a "gay thing" . . .

    http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-01-04/navy-pilot-killed-california-condo-shooting/52378766/1

    (3) There was a more recent incident in San Diego where a Marine shot and killed his wife, apparently for refusing to participate in "rough sex" . . .

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/30/brittany-killgore-murder-marine-wife-killed-refusing-rough-sex_n_1843015.html

    (4) The U. S. military officially dropped its long-standing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy and replaced it with a new "Flame On!" policy, which among other things immediately resulted in the "weddings" of Navy personnel; the now classic and highly disturbing Marine homecoming kiss; and a gay Marine getting engaged at the White House . . .

    http://www.slate.com/articles/life/the_wedding/2012/07/erwynn_umali_and_will_behrens_the_first_gay_wedding_on_a_military_base_.html

    http://www.advocate.com/politics/dadt/2012/12/29/watch-meet-gay-marine-whose-homecoming-kiss-went-viral

    http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/12/gay-marine-proposes-to-boyfriend-at-white-house/

    (5) Baldenario is the source of all knowledge in the known universe, which is a huge burden, since among other things it requires Baldenario to know bits of information which Baldenario really would rather not know, which is an abstruse way to suggest that those folks who are able to ponder information with an open mind should survey the readily available information and the curiously not so readily available information, which specifically is a photograph of Marine Cpl. Kevin Albert Richard Coset and the official word from N.C.I.S. on the most likely scenario(s) . . .

    (6) Considering that U. S. Army Reserve Lt. Alvin Bulaoro completed his undergraduate degree while on active duty and apparently excelled in his recent U. S. Army training, it is highly doubtful that illegal drugs were involved, which according to Baldenario removes one of the possible motives . . .

    (7) Once U. S. Army Reserve Lt. Alvin Bulaoro's body was discovered and the detectives and coroner indicated the physical condition, which according to news reports indicated suspicious trauma, N.C.I.S. knew exactly which suspect to arrest, which by inference indicates some type of involvement between the Army Reserve officer and Marine enlisted man . . .

Homicide investigators said his body showed signs of trauma and deemed his death suspicious in nature.

    [SOURCE: http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/Marine-Corporal-Arrested-in-Fallbrook-Murder-Alvin-Bulaoro-192651631.html ]

    (8) U. S. Army Reserve Lt. Alvin Bulaoro's body was found in a sleeping bag in a black SUV, where according to news reports it has been sitting for several weeks, although the news reports also indicate that the black SUV was moved at least one time, yet even though the average daytime temperature in San Diego in December 2012, January 2013, and February 2013 was 65 degrees Fahrenheit and the average nighttime temperature was 48 degrees Fahrenheit, which is cool, given the black color of the SUV, the temperature inside the SUV would be 15 to perhaps 25 degrees Fahrenheit hotter during the day, yet according to San Diego Sheriff's Deputies there was no odor coming from the body, which to Baldenario indicates the possibility that U. S. Army Reserve Lt. Alvin Bulaoro was taking antibiotics and other bacterial and viral suppressants, which in turn could indicate a recent diagnosis of HIV, which might provide an explanation for what in this scenario would be an act of rage by Marine Cpl. Kevin Albert Richard Coset triggered by learning either (a) that he needed to be checked for HIV or (b) that U. S. Army Reserve Lt. Alvin Bulaoro wanted them to "come out" and then to announce their engagement and upcoming "wedding" . . .

    [SOURCE: http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/USCA0982 ]

[NOTE: The information about no body odor in the SUV is presented in the second video at this link "Body Found Zipped in Sleeping Bag", where the sleeping bag itself is a potential clue, of course. Why was U. S. Army Reserve Lt. Alvin Bulaoro's body in a sleeping bag? This is what Baldenario wants to know . . . ]

    [SOURCE: http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/Marine-Corporal-Arrested-in-Fallbrook-Murder-Alvin-Bulaoro-192651631.html ]

    (9) Baldenario is an avid "N.C.I.S" CBS television series watcher, and after watching several seasons, is it really so difficult to connect the dots this way? No, it is not, and in fact Baldenario could write the screenplay for the upcoming episode, tentatively titled "Looking For Love In All The Wrong Places" or "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" . . .

Based on the information currently available to the public, this is the most likely scenario according to Baldenario, really . . .

    Really! :-o

If Coset is found guilty in a court of law I hope that they throw the book at him- a big, heavy, thick tome. The Bulaoro family has my deepest sympathy for their loss as does the US Army and our Nation. Any soldier with the amount of pride that Lt. Bulaoro exhibited when he told his mother "You're going to be so proud of me." tells me that both family and Service have been cheated with his murder. It is Lt. Bulaoro's kind of pride and dedication that makes this Nation THE place where the peoples of the world run to for safety and betterment of their families and themselves. I wish more Americans exhibited that kind of pride and willingness to serve but unfortunately those characteristics seem to become rarer by the day. Rest In Peace Lt. Bulaoro. Thank You for your service.

      @ Baldenario,

" Its probably a gay thing, really..."

Is that the best thing you could come up with or say Baldy? Not a single word of sympathy for Lt Bulaoro's family or of condemnation of this horrible crime, just toss out an unfounded suspicion that it was a "gay thing"? Really now. I know opinions and a$$holes have a certain commonality, but you needn't have proved it by excreting that! What brought you to thinking about homosexuality being involved here? If it was simply a wise-a$$ comment then you've only half succeeded. You forgot the 'wise' part.

My brother does the same job in Jax, Fla. He gets people pissed at him all the time, especially about pay, including Admirals. But he's alive, been doing the same basic job for 43 years and moved up the chain through hard work. 23 years in the Navy, four in the AF and the rest as a civilian.

Don't call it a gay thing without knowledge. And troll some other thread.

Have had a large number in my family in the Marine Corps from WWI through present day. None disrespected the Corps. Labeling those brave men and women such as that shows your lack of brain power. It's similar to claiming all whites are racists, all Hispanics are lazy or all blacks are criminals. You have issues only a doctor for mental illness could help. And please, once prescribed, stay on your medications.

This tragic act was classified as a GAY HATE crime which resulted in the acceleration of the Concern for Others Training and Sensitivity Training that is mandatory quarterly in the Army.

Not sayin this is the case, but I do bet that theire is more to this story.

My condolences to the family. We are so anesthetized to death anymore that some of you are like ..."must be a gay thing, must be drugs" oh well, such is life; like any of those are valid reasons for killing someone. Why do we only feel sympathy when it is someone we love or care about? Well, someone loved that young man too.

I doubt this was drug related as this kid was way too busy making a living and advancing his career to be involved in the drug culture. If it was a "gay" thing, so what? First and foremost, he was a family member who was, obviously, loved by his mother. These people who have expressed such a lack of sympathy for this situation, apparently, have never lost a loved one to any circumstance other than natural causes. Even though they are insensitive jack-asses, I hope they never have to endure that kind of pain. Nobody should!

your magical skydaddy living on water vapor is a mass murderer who killed more than hitler because not enough people were worshipping him.

God's ways are not our ways....and that is because he is GOD!!!

I am not sure who your skydaddy is, but I will say a prayer for you.

I cant stop asking the Q's about him having homosexual tendencies? I think there are countless young and old service members who are discusted by even the slightest homosexual charactoristics in other service members. That homicidal switch is touchy to say the least. Imagine a gay man doing anything worse than just being his gay self minding his own business, maybe he made a sexual advance at the guy...without having any consideration for his sexual preference, maybe this officer was seen off duty crossdressing at a club looking like a discusting human being, maybe his discusting gay male homosexuality just got too big for his own good. If this crime was a hate crime based on the gay card....well, i feel sory for homosexuals who let there behaviors known while serving there country. SERVICE BEFORE SELF!

@swo Please learn how to spell. The word DISGUSTING, is not spelled "discusting"

and when you refer to someone's behavior, it should be "Their" NOT "There"....

"There" is a location, not a person. Thanks

Bob, I'd have done it from nearly the top, but I just do not have the energy or, with only one hand typing (shoulder operation and no sympathy wanted, hurt a hell of a lot more before) it's the best I can do. However, if my spelling and grammar are attrocious for the next few weeks, please pardon me. I'll do the best I can. Of course, I feel like one hand typing is like one hand clapping.

That said, I feel sadness about a young person having life taken in any way. I served six years during Vietnam, served with gays, didn't care one whit. On the battlefield, there may be Athiests, but it's good to know someonehas your back, regardless of what and whom that individual may be.

I feel sad for the family. They seem like a very close knit family. Sad.

                    SWO

At this time there is just not enough info available to make any real conjectures. For all we know this could have just simply been a case of robbery attempt by the Marine gone bad. I think that is more likely than any possible gay connection. Sounds like maybe your own possible prejudices against gays are getting in the way of clear thinking processes just like some of the people above.

This article was small and the gay angle could play a roll.
