Subscribe to RSSPolice are investigating how a 5-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder in his home in The Bronx, New York City, Friday, authorities said.
The boy's mother and father were in their bedroom in Morrisania when they heard a pop noise shortly after 10:30 a.m., police said.
They rushed to their 5-year-old son's room and found him shot.
Police said it was not clear if the boy accidentally shot himself or if his 11-year-old brother accidentally shot him.
The father drove the boy to nearby Lincoln Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The investigation was continuing.

We had a kid from Chandler, Arizona shoot himself in the hand and leg (one bullet) when he was a kid (hunting accident). He went on to become an NCAA All American wrestler from Arizona State University and an honor student.
No one said diddly squat about that.

I am glad that these people enjoy their rights to be armed, I am not glad that they are idiots and allow children access to loaded firearms in their house. Maybe the child was practicing shooting burglars, or is that just for athletic runners.
A loaded fire arm in a house is more likely to kill a family member then an intruder. Please have the good sense to keep your gun away from children and to turn on the light switch before shooting someone. Cardinal rule in hunting and the military alway identify the target. Then shoot accurately. Watch out for idiots with guns.

The boy was probably shot in the arm because some idiot was playing with a gun out in the streets of NY

It is a good thing that he wasn't hit with a beer can! No beer in NYC without a 10 day waiting period, register your beer with the mayor before opening it, be put on a list of people who keep beer in the house so neighbors can keep their child from playing with your child, and no beer with more than 7 ounces!
The dad was arrested as he should be! Not a gun issue an idiot issue. Maybe this person should not be allow to have weapons becaused he has demonstrated his inability to safely keep them. But it is NOT a GUN issue!!!

Why is it when child gets poisoned, falls out of an open window, or many of the other ways children are killed or injured due to parental neglect. The story does not make national news unless a gun involved. I live in rural Wisconsin, we are responsible gun owners and parents. Things like this rarely happen here!

Ownership of firearms in NYC has been controlled by the Sullivan act in 1898. Firearms from Vermont and New Hampshire straw gun sales are available on the streets in NYC and the NYPD turns a blind eye to these sales. The arresting of jay walkers in NYC have the patrolmen on edge. Why task them with arresting criminals doing illegal firearms sales as we all know whats more important to the Mass media. They needs horror stories to promote nation ban on handguns. What makes the thought that criminals will obey a new law if they can't obey a law from 1898 excapes my logic.
