Police have identified a suspect in an early morning shooting and pileup that killed three people and injured at least six on Las Vegas' famous Strip Thursday, NBC affiliate KSNV reported.
Police are seeking Ammar Harris, 26, in the shooting and subsequent car crashes that occurred in a section of the Strip that includes Caesars Palace, Bally’s and the Bellagio.
The shooting came after the occupants of a black Range Rover and a Maserati got into an altercation in the valet area of the Aria hotel and casino, according to Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie.
“We have numerous witnesses to this,” Las Vegas Police Sgt. John Sheahan said. “But what is the genesis of this? We don’t know yet.”
The suspect was in the Range Rover, while 27-year-old aspiring rapper Kenny “Clutch” Cherry of Oakland, Calif., was at the wheel of the Maserati.
According to reports, the Range Rover pulled up and allegedly opened fire into the Maserati near a stoplight in the pre-dawn hours. A passenger was injured by the gunfire and Cherry was killed, causing the car to spin out of control. The careening silver Maserati smashed into a taxicab, trapping the passenger and driver and causing the cab to burst into flames; both occupants were killed, police said.
In a scene witnesses describe as looking like a Hollywood set, a confrontation between a group of men escalated into a shooting, multiple vehicle pileup, and an exploding taxicab. The incident left three people dead. NBC's Miguel Almaguer reports.
Then, the Maserati smashed into three other cars before coming to a stop.
The taxi driver was identified as Michael Boldon, 62, of Las Vegas. His passenger was Sandra Sutton-Wasmund, 48, of Maple Valley, Wash. She was a two-time breast cancer survivor. Both died of "multiple blunt force injuries," the coroner's office said.
All three deaths were classified as homicide.
Police released a photo that was taken when Harris was arrested last year on pandering, kidnapping, sexual assault and coercion charges, according to The Associated Press.
KSNV reported that police did not find Harris at his residence Saturday, but the black Range Rover was found just a few blocks away from the intersection where the violent incident occurred.
Police also said they found shell casings in Harris's apartment that linked him to Cherry's death.

To all you who have posted your racist crap on here, why don't you stop boring us with your ignorance and get busy writing/calling your congresspeople. Urge them to do something about the education system in poor areas, provide life skills classes and contraceptive information in school, force men to at least take care of their children financially, help provide low cost daycare so women can work to support their families, encourage businesses to locate in poor areas, provide free contraceptive and abortion services to help women who know they are not yet prepared, financially or emotionally, to care for a child. Of course, you could always volunteer at a school (very rewarding) or the boys and girls clubs. (And BTW, I have lived in rural VA in the Blue Ridge Mtns, which is as lilly white as it gets, and they are in need of every one of these services, too.)
Don't start with any of your religious dogma; the only one that matters is where Jesus tells us to take care of our brothers. We have to start somewhere to get out of this never-ending cycle. But, of course, many of you don't want that to end - it gives you a feeling of superiority to have someone to put down (as you do in these commentaries). Get over it, and start doing something positive to make this a better place.

Igrew up in Philadelphia during the 50 and 60's, and there were plenty of manufacturing jobs in the city, but because of greed, companies are outsourcing, they pay some poor third world worker 50 cents a hour, I try to buy American, but getting so hard to do.

I would add one point. As to day care centers for the children so the moms can work --"are you kidding?" These people think they are entitled to "liveable wage" jobs when they don't have liveable wage skills and absolutely no work ethic. Acquaint yourself with the current new (outside of FOX) and you will find that the free clinics are rapidly disappearing. Those responsible are in a panic over the thought that the government is contributing to abortions (it's not) and overlook the fact that most of the services preovided by these clinics is women'd health care and contraception care. I'm sure that when you said that they don't have to have sex you were just being cynical, it was too silly to be taken seriously.
Deborah Cox made a series of suggestions that anyone can and should do. Her suggestions were realistic, she didn't ask for the moon, and were based on some empathy rather than just looking down on an entire group of people that you clearly don't really know anything about. Where was all this violence in the 50's? NO, the only thing that has changed in the last 50 or so years is the Secular Progressive agenda has wove its tentacles into society. Family is irrelevant. Dads are irrelevant. Males, especially white males, are irrelevant or even 'need' to be marginalized. Morals and Personal Responsibility are irrelevant.
My point is, since the 60's and the Liberal Progressive march toward hedonism in this country, with the rise of the welfare state, abortion and easy divorce, discipline in this country is gone. There are no consequences. No longer are men being raised by fathers. And how do you become a real man, if you don't have one to show you the way? Granted it isn't always successful, but it seemed to be more successful than the alternative.

However rather then putting him in prison he was a product of California's catch and release program. And he was able to get a hold of a gun even with California's draconian gun control laws. It said his residence was searched but it didn't say in what city. His victim was from California so he probably lived in California and was a gang member. Hey sherlock Boelifer, you might try reading the news article at the end of the link provided in the article this discussion is linked to. KSNV -- a LAS VEGAS news station -- reports that Las Vegas Metro Police searched the suspect's home in Las Vegas, NEVADA. Not California.
Boeflier... he could just as easily have come from AZ, NM, TX or FL for all that's in the report. Most of those states allow for gun show sales without background checks or resales without checks. If you had been there I doubt you'd have been able to pull out your pee shooter and do anything with it except shoot another innocent bystander.

I think it's time we set a limit on defence staling tactics, say 6 months, that ought to be enough for anyone that's actually serious about representing their clients. As for sentencing, I think the rope should follow within a year at a maximum. In this case maybe less.

co-owned a dress shop called The Dazzled Dame and had gone to Las Vegas
with her partner in the shop for a trade show.

You will find details about the two people killed in the Taxi, and you will find that the dead rapper didn't have any prior arrests and was clean.
But you won't find any information on Harris's family like you will on the others. Why? Because he is Muslim?

Second...As a convicted kidnapper, most states have a life sentence for that..can't imagine Nevada doesn't..but he may have been from another state where they have lost their minds as well. The arrest is followed by booking and a bond hearing. This individual was in all probability out on bail awaiting trial. Strange how people are equating the first victim with the criminal when all they have in common according to the article is there race. Hate to break it to the people who think all rappers are criminals, but most rappers have degrees (or were minors in) music or English. In fact, most have degrees from decent schools in business, and they create an image in order to make their product sell.
I see nowhere in this article that suggests that the victim is the exception, more likely a career criminal decided to kill someone who was high profile because he thought it would garner him a better reputation with the criminal community. Unfortunately (for him especially) he killed two more bystanders, and when you kill three people in public in this country, you typically get caught because putting anything less than full attention to the case is bad press.

All criminologists agree 100% that prison does nothing to rehabilitate those who need to be rehabilitated. In fact, lengthy sentences only create worse monsters. But prison is just one link in the chain of the "Just-Us" system: lawyers, judges, the police, and an army of various lower-level bureaucrats who support this system, all profit and derive sustenance from it, thus it blindly continues even though it ultimately produces an ever growing population of sociopaths who are a bigger threat to society after prison than before. The rapper was a pretty decent young man. He provided for his children. He lived with them and his girlfriend and was reputed to be a loving father. They were not on welfare or food stamps. Evolution says that species arise due to some sort of reproductive isolation (whether it is a mutation at the DNA level that changes chromosome compatibility, some sort of physical barrier, or behavioral isolation having to do with mating rituals or the like). The current modern "ape" and the modern human diverged from a common ancestor. There are several lineages that co-exist at the same time due to filling a niche in their habitats. Over time, some species go extinct (usually because their environment changes and they are no longer fit for that environment) and some live on to diverge into new species sometime later.
So apes did not turn into humans. They are just related via a common ancestor much like you and your cousins can co-exist at the same time -- you have a common ancestor in your grandparents.
And just for the record, you can believe in a higher power and believe in evolution because there is no part of evolution that contradicts the possibility of a God (which is a supernatural being and science only deals with the natural world). You just can't believe in a LITERAL interpretation of the Bible (the whole 6000 years is the age of the world, the Creation story, etc.). I majored in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and minored in Comparative Religion in college. I've managed to be able to use them both without having any contradictions.

You can not separate physics from any natural science (just so you know) and also it would be safe to say that somewhere between your first and second post you became less ignorant. Since you missed 100% of the point I was trying to make, and since you work in some sort of school, and since school security should be something of concern to you, and since school security IS a concern of the parents of your students as it should be, I'll try to make my point clear enough for a physics teacher to understand.
Evil people like this shooter exist. They are represented by all races. They are everywhere and it makes no difference whether you ban assualt rifles or not, they will still exist, as a threat. Whether they carry a certain gun or a five gallon can of gasoline and a match (use your background in physics and calculate the damage that could be done with just five gallons of gas) they are still a threat. That threat has to be dealt with. Police protection, unless on site, is just a myth, and even if on site in the form of a single officer, is not sufficient. To protect the children in our schools, I think we need to employ some means of limiting access to the school to try to keep this sort of threat out of the school in the first place, and should limiting access fail, then we need to be able to immediately deploy an effective counter force to neutralize him before he can do harm to the teachers or to the kids. This was the subject of my post.
Thanks for the lesson in physics. However, it will not protect our kids. Thanks for telling me you are black. What that had to do with the subject at hand escapes me, but it is nice to hear that a black man can be a teacher, but I already knew that since many of my fellow officers in the military were black and that was in the early 1970's. Are you now suppose to get a gold star or something because you did what is expected and made something of your life just because you are black?If not, then what was the point of injecting race into the discussion?
My race I will keep to myself as it has nothing to do with the subject at hand, but I will not ever agree to make special awards or give accolades to someone that does what is expected of him or her because of race. I think what you have made clear is that one of the last bastions of prejudice is in academia itself where the elites think we should give preferences based on race as a means of accepting or denying students into our schools. I find the practice disgusting. Judge the man by his deeds and accomplishments and his character, not by the color of his skin.
You should be proud that you are a physics teacher, not that you are a black physics teacher. To think being a black teacher of physics is special is to denegrate all blacks. You should be proud to be an American and never an African American because the last time I checked, there is no sub-class of American. You especially, in your position in academia, should take off the race colored glasses.
If you want to discuss the physics of a speeding bullet and the tremendous kenetic energy it represents, let's go. If you want to discuss the argument I put forth, I am ready to hear an opposing view. As to your being black, OK. You are black. So what? So was the shooter. What does that have to do with anything?
