MIAMI -- Bishop Ivory Wilson on Sunday gazed on the shattered window of a building that serves as a church on the weekend and as a day care during the week.
There is the charred cafeteria where children would eat their snacks. A roof is now blackened with soot. It's just feet away from where students learn and play at the day care center.
"We worked hard to make this,” Wilson said. “The kids love us, the parents love us and we love them.”
Director Sandra Wilson said: “This just broke my heart, I couldn't stop crying -- couldn't stop crying.”
They say they believe the fire was deliberately set, given the vandalism spray-painted on the walls: three large red swastikas.
The owners of Little Leapers Childcare center in Fort Lauderdale say it’s a hate crime. In the last few weeks, employees say they also have been on the receiving end of a verbal threat.
Three weeks before the fire, an anonymous someone phoned “and threatened us,” said Joyce Bryant, lead schoolteacher. The caller told staff to pack their bags and get out, Bryant said.
When that call came in, the bishop and his wife contacted police. Sunday, instead of singing and praising in the auditorium, they're tallying up items that were stolen: Cameras, music equipment and flat-screen TVs used to live-stream sermons.
"Here we've got parents that won't know where to take their kids tomorrow morning," Wilson said.
They've been present in the community now for more than four years. They can’t understand why they’ve been attacked.
"We think everyone should be able to run their own business without anyone trying to run them out," Bryant said.
The bishop said vacating the building is the last thing they'll do, unwilling to let hatred win.
"We're not going to run,” he said. “Whatever game they're playing doesn't frighten me.”

Why put a Swastika sign in a Church ? That does not make sense. So this was not anti-Semitic...it was what? There are screwed up people in Florida who hate everybody...and there are minorities who hate other minorities. Or is someone doing this vandalism and then trying to pin it on someone else? Were you able to demonstrate precisely who had painted the swastikas, or were you expecting them to arrest somebody based upon you suspicions?
This sounds like the work of mindless vandals, not of some fringe political groups. They probably painted swastikas because they couldn't remember how to spell most of four-letter words typical of their work.

If you watch the video clip you can see that the swastikas are pinted in reverse, Specifically the part where it shows the part of the building with the sign Ming Arts Academy you can clearly see that this is not a flipped negative and that they actually made them backwards.

Good grief.
No, swastikas do not always point to the right. They can be either way depending on who is making them. Indeed, "right pointing" swastikas are Nazi symbols but other groups have used them as well. A "backwards" swastika was used by some American Indians as a peace symbol.
Actually the symbol is not of nazi origin. it was adopted by the nazi party and in fact to properly reflect the one used by the nazi party, the symbol should be rotated so that the outter lines are at a 45° angle. The symbol shown can be drawn either to the left or right and both would be correct. Also the original symbol had dots between the arm and is still used today in hinduism as a symbol meaning "to be good" or "being with the higher self".
It is legit to question the Swastika as Nazi hate symbol in this instance as they are reversed from the direction the Nazis used them. It could be a hate group or it could be the owners involved in insurance fraud. My guess is it was garden variety vandals/arsonists who ignorantly left the symbol to be cool or to throw the police off the track. None of us know for certain though. Hopefully the police will catch the perps, regardless of their identity and motivations.
Left pointing swastikas go back to the Chinese, as well as India, native American tribes used them as well, these are sacred symbols of good luck. The Nazis used right or clockwise pointing swastikas, as well as neo nazis, anti Semitics, and white supremacist groups. This is either an inside job, or the work of someone who is ignorant and uninformed, or possibly someone in the area with a grudge. I would look toward the local area first.

Also, in the article they print, "They say they believe the fire was deliberately set, given the vandalism spray-painted on the walls: three large red swastikas." THEY meaning the people that work there and NOT the police. Nowhere in the article is a comment from the police department.

I see I offended someone. Sorry, but I'm speaking the truth. Don't blame me for your lack of knowledge about the KKK and other terrorist organizations. Considering the church is run by a black Bishop it's likely the callers and arsonists were skin heads / Neo-Nazi's. The police shouldn't have a hard time locating these individuals given the fact that Ft. Lauderdale isn't in Germany.
These swastikas are the original ancient form of the symbol. They come from Chinese and Asian civilizations that have used them for over 1,000 years. Hitler simply stole the symbol and turned it for his own use in the Nazi party. So scenario 2 includes a possible Asian gang or Chinese gang.
But it seems likely that the symbol is used "correctly" by skin heads simply to throw doubt on their identity.
Hopefully this is what it appears to be not a ruse perpetrated for an insurance fraud. Given that fact that the police or even the F.B.I. may end up investigating if the harassment continues.
The fact that the ppl took the time to call the church to tell them to leave makes me think that its was a personal thing and not just a bunch of youth being dumb. You can rebuild after a fire. the swastikas to me were to make them scared so they will leave.
My church had swastikas spray painted on the doors with the words "Jews Go Home" and "Nazis Rule" or something to that affect. Im assuming its because we go to church on Saturday instead of Sunday but our church has been there for 25+ years so clearly its an ignorant newby to the neighborhood....that and our congregation is about 80% Black 10% Filipino and 10%white/other so the vandal must not have very good deductive reasoning skills ("Either they have the most diverse and unconventional Jewish congregation in the world or they're not Jews....I'll go with diverse congregation". Personally, I was more offended at their pure stupidity than their attempt at intimidation.

WRONG. Hindus and Buddhists use the left-facing and right-facing swastikas as religious symbols. Only the right-facing swastika was used by hate groups and Nazis in Germany. You just displayed religious ignorance that plays more into the stereotypes of religious intolerance. I'm sure you don't mean any harm, but the idea that swastikas are hate-symbols when used as religious symbols is nonsense. If that were the case the cross and the crescent moon and star from Christian and Muslim religions should be considered to be always hate symbols, since they were used in intolerant hate-filled murder fests in the Crusades.
It's not true to say any symbol, whether Christian. Muslim, Hindu, or Buddhist, is a hate symbol just because the viewer is ignorant about other religions. Their ignorance of the other religions is the issue, not the symbol or the religious use of it.
A historic church in Cleveland has pentagrams on its steeple. Is that an evil symbol? Only to the ignorant. Pentagrams were meant to ward off evil in some Slavic interpretations of Christianity (the church I'm speaking of is in Slavic Village in Cleveland and was built by Slav immigrants). It's the INVERTED pentagram that is supposed to draw in evil.
But the igorant claim that the pentagrams on the church's steeple is evidence that sect of Christianity are "secret devl worshippers". Their ignorance is the issue, not te pentagram's use.
And just as inverting the pentagram changes its meaning, so does inverting the right-facing swastika. It isn't a Nazi symbol of hate when left-facing...PERIOD.
Same with the word "skinhead". Most skinheads are ANTI- RACIST. The word "skinhead" predates neo-nazi idiots. It was a movement that coincided and closely paired with the reggae movement. It originated among working class factory workers in England who liked ska and punk music, and later rocksteady and reggae. Many punk bands and reggae bands supported each other from England to Jamaica. Bob Marley mentions a few punk bands in his songs. The rastafarians refer to these original skinheads as "baldheads". They kept their hair short because it was dangerous to work in factories with long hair.
But the media started stupidly calling all neo-nazi skinheads (a minority among skinheads) "skinheads" in a general sense, instead of distinguishing one kind of skinhead from another.
Look up SHARP (Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice) and RASH (Red and Anarchist Skinheads)...both are anti-racist activist skinhead groups. Most skinheads abhor racism. The idea the word is associated with racism is evidence of the public's mass ignorance and the media's idiocy and lazy journalism. Skinhead subculture is not about racism.
I doubt this is the case, but the Maniac Latin Disciples (MLD Folks gang) from Chicago use the inverted swastika as one of their symbols. This was in honor of their original leader, a hispanic kid who went by the gang name "Hitler" (he admired Adolf Hitler...don't ask me why...). They aren't a racist gang, definately not a white power gang. They are mostly hispanic and the symbol has little relation to nazism (hence they use the inverted symbol, to distinguish it from Nazi symbology and racism).
But the inverted swastika is a gang symbol. But usually it will be accompanied with pitchforks (a Folks symbol), and broken hearts with wings and devil tales (a diss to their Vice Lord rivals).

They killed lots of people...but weren't trying to wipe homosexuals of the planet. Their main "final solution" was chiefly about Jews and they kept excellent documents to prove this. Jews were by far the largest group killed, and more than half of the Jews in the ENTIRE WORLD at that time were killed. NINETY PERCENT of EuropeanJews were killed. THey were almost successful. IT was more mechanized and systematic with killing the Jews...it was the most important thing to them. So putting Swastika on Jewish establishments is THE way of saying "we want you dead and your entire people and entire religion and everything about you anhiliated".
White supremacists, some of them, neoNazi's use the swastika true. But I think that very often just kids that aren't really nazi use it as a generalized hate symbol and don't even know what it means. I think thats what might happen sometimes if it's not put on Jewish establishments.

Somewhere these individuals are sitting back laughing, thinking how much entertainment they are getting from this. The exposure and thrill of getting away with it.But the police are not stupid.The foolish creeps have set in motion a chain of events that they will not be able to stop. The only quwstion I have is, with all that expensive Equipment in the building, why didn't they have an Alarm System? Churches are where they are and this is a real and changing world. My Grandmother, when I was a young boy told me of days when no one had a lock on the door. No matter how stedfast the Church sits the sourrounding enviroment changes. When the Enviroment changes, so does the people. So, with all due respect, "Get a Security System First Thing!" and second have a secure room to store you expensive items. You won't stop a theif, the whole idea is to slow them down until responeres arrive.

Did you even read the article? The building is also a church - not just a daycare. They aren't "babies" - most of the kids there are school age or preschool. It also has a performing arts program.

To the creature phillykevin2 - Florida's stand your gun law is absolutely necessary. When someone is standing in your home in the middle of the night or middle of the day for that matter and you did not invite them in, they have a hoodie or mask shielding their face and are menacing in their behavior, you have every right to protect yourself and your loved ones. Most people use the law properly and do not go around shooting teenagers in a car at a gas station because they are playing their music too loud. If someone is unwilling to identify himself/herself after being asked to, then the law is in effect. If your motives are pure and you intend no harm, you should have no trouble identifying yourself.
If you truly are from Philly, you really should not be casting stones at any other place. The entire state of Pennsylvania is a hot mess. Most of the problems in Florida are from the transplants from Up North.
