NEW YORK -- Firefighters subdued a man they witnessed attacking a woman with a meat cleaver on the street Sunday, police said.
Members of the FDNY company known as the Chinatown Dragon Fighters saw the man attacking the woman across the street from their station house on Canal Street and intervened, according to police.
"I heard a commotion in the street and I look over, its a man dragging this woman, grabbing her by the arm, dragging her, she's crying and she's screaming," said firefighter Jose Ortiz.
Ortiz rushed over to help the woman, when suddenly he saw the man pull out the meat cleaver.
"I see the cleaver go up and he swings down and he hit her in the head," Ortiz said. "Now I'm thinking I gotta grab this guy."
But before Ortiz could get to him, the man was able to strike the woman with the meat cleaver several times.
Shane Clarke, another firefighter, came to Ortiz's aid and together they were able to stop the attack and subdue the man.
The woman was taken to Bellevue Hospital with cuts to her neck, back and face. Police said her injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The man was taken into police custody.
"I'm happy that we were there to help," Ortiz said. "I'm sorry we weren't there early enough to just stop the whole thing altogether."

Doesn't say much for the guy and the meat cleaver...several blows to the head and all she needed was stitches...kinda makes me wonder if this event even took place...

I wish someone had shot and killed this guy. We need to rid the gene pool of murderers, rapists, thieves, and pedophiles. I also think we should have a national registry for meat cleaver owners.
I have a meat cleaver. It's a nice Global 7-inch stainless steel cleaver. Goes through bone like butter. They can try to take it, and then I can have it back when I pry it from their cold, dead hands. :)

Ban meat cleavers but not before this guy has one used on him
We need to stop "subduing" and/or "apprehending" these nut cases and "exterminate" them when caught in the act once and for all.
Hear, hear! Think of the savings of millions of state tax dollars, and the increased cleanliness of the air we all breathe, by virtue of the fact that scum like this are not exhaling into it! They can inhale all they want, but if they need to exhale, they need to find another planet, with air already irredeemably polluted by the likes of themselves.
The cleaver must not have been very sharp, they are designed to cut through bone like an axe. I have one, it is a pretty intimidating blade, I don't dare 'chop' with it lest I miss and lop a finger off, it is that sharp and heavy. I just use the weight and force that the blade has to slice through bone, very carefully positioning the sharp edge first.
This incident also proves one thing the anti firearm crowd utterly refuses to acknowledge, violence is in people, not the objects they implement in their violent crimes. Trying to 'feel good that something was done' by restricting this or that object merely shifts the violent behavior to other implements, plain and simple.
You cannot control violence by controlling objects.

That's great they didn't need a gun.On the other hand,in that situation,it sounds like a good crack on the head with a gun would've been a good choice too.
Why not shoot him? The poor woman could have died by the time they got to him. One less criminal on the street. Now Obama can keep from prosecuting him because he didn't have a gun. Oh Yah, Obama doesn't prosecute gun violations like Bush did!

Ban meat cleavers. I would think if you were serious you could do more damage with a meat cleaver than a pistol. If you're pissed off enough and determined to kill someone you will find a suitable weapon.
Now what would have happened if the firefighters didn't "happen" to be there at the "right" time? Those Dumbocrats would have "chewed" her out for not taking judo, whistle or going to a safe zone. Sorry forgot about the vomiting or urinating on him. Sure that would have helped (yes, I know those were the statements about rape. But what about just simply being attacked. a Pro gun women that is what we like to see. I suppose you voted for Obama and the other democrats. you want to see the war on women. These dems are going to take away your right to defend yourselves. Every womens group should be jumping up and down screaming at these democrats who are about to take away your rights. Decent men don't have to tolerate toxic women. There's way too many good women out there to settle for a medusa. I have been with the same wonderful lady for 24+ years. I had to dodge a few train wrecks before I got to her, but she was definately worth the effort.

Of course we have all the little snarky comments about the attacker being stopped and nobody had a gun. Mind you the man got in several hacks and seriously injured the woman. The purpose of a firearm in a case like this is as a standoff weapon. Nobody would have had to physically touch the attacker putting themselves at great risk. Matter of fact he may not even had gotten even one strike in on the woman. And what if the firefighers hadn't been nearby? Wonder if anyone else would have stepped up to save her? I doubt it!

Well, I'm like you in that I wish it would have read that a woman attacked by a man wielding a 'meat cleaver" shot and Killed her attacker, but sadly to say, the LIBATARDS would prefer that the woman got axed to death with the cleaver, so that THEY could keep the deadly GUNS off the street..
