Two British men are free on bail after they were arrested in connection with the trial of a New York cop accused of plotting to kill and eat dozens of women, police said.
One of the men was identified Friday as Dale Bolinger, 57, of Canterbury, is alleged to be the man known as "Moody Blues," who prosecutors in New York say was an online "mentor" to former New York police Officer Gilberto Valle.
Valle, 28, is on trial on charges of conspiring to kidnap women and illegally accessing a government database to research potential victims. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
Bolinger acknowledged that he had been suspended from his job as a nurse at East Kent Hospital after he was detained by Kent police last week on suspicion of conspiracy, child grooming and possession of child abuse images.
An unidentified 30-year-old man was also arrested in the Canterbury area as part of the investigation, Kent police said Thursday in a statement. They are free on bail "while inquiries continue," it said.
Bolinger denied the allegations, telling reporters outside his home, "I have to leave it to the police," the Kentish Gazette reported Friday.
Prosecutors have introduced extensive, highly gruesome material from Valle's computer to convince a jury in U.S. District Court in Manhattan that Valle planned to kidnap, torture, kill and eat dozens of women, at least four of whom he had attended high school or college with. Valle's wife turned over the computer to police and fled to Nevada after discovering the materials.
One of the women allegedly targeted in the plans was a woman named Kimberly, who was a frequent topic of discussion between Valle and the British man calling himself Moody Blues, who prosecutors said also used the email address "MeatMarketMan."

Among the less sickening exchanges prosecutors have introduced was titled "Abducting and Cooking Kimberly: A Blueprint." It included a photo of Kimberly Sauer, a former classmate of Valle's at the University of Maryland, prosecutors said.
"I can knock her out, wait until dark and kidnap her right out of her house," Valle wrote, according to prosecutors.
FBI Agent Corey Walsh testified that Moody Blues advised Valle to try eating his victims alive, but Valle responded: "I'm not really into raw meat."
In another email message, Valle allegedly told Moody Blues about a softball player he knew who was "the most desirable piece of meat I've ever met." Moody Blues suggested knocking her out with a baseball bat, saying it would be "poetic justice," the jury was told.
Valle has pleaded not guilty. On the opening day of his trial, his attorney told jurors Monday that Valle had been having disturbing fantasies since he was a teenager but never had any intention of acting on them.

If they manage to stay where they are, and survive and live for many years amongst all the sicko's, kudos to them...maybe they managed to "drive the demons away" by spending their precious time just surviving. It will be like the earliest days on this planet, when man just had to figure it out without help or guidance...and no one was there to scream "but what about my rights!"

By definition to be granted bail you cannot be a danger to the public or a flight risk. How is the desire, and planning, to eat other humans not a danger to the public? Fail.

Not a chance. These guys are amateurs. The cannibals in DC are polished professionals. In any case, knowing what I do about British "cuisine", I suspect the Brits were in it on the slight chance they would get to eat something that might tatse good.
Arguably, the most prolific Serial Kiler, Pedophile and Cannibal was name "albert fish". google him He was finally caught after he wrote a letter to the mother of one of his child victims saying that she was still a vergin when he ate her as a sort of consolation. He was 78. I believe, but had been doing this since he was a teenager.
He was heterosexaul, had several children and was a devout Christian. He later said he was like Christ. This all happened in the 1920s. There have always been here, they are here now, and they will always be here until we remove the shadows and the dark places where they can hide, like churches. He was a good Christian to the people who knew him.
Given the history of the Popes, and the Holy Roman Empire, his proclivity for innocent human flesh is not surprising.

This is one of those cases that has me concerned. I have no doubt the cop was guilty of abusing his position and power, but the real meat (pun intended) of this whole case is that they say he "intended" to carry out his fantasy. HOW do you prove something like that? After all millions of people go onto all kinds of sick websites every day. Sites that talk about rape, murder, and yes, cannibalism and yet 99.9% of them never actually DO anything, they just fantasize.
When do you cross the line from fantasy to intent to commit and how can you KNOW they have crossed the line if they haven't actually done anything illegal? If they post a threat against someone that is a crime. If they post an elaborate plan of surveillance, planning, even purchasing products, have they actually committed a crime?
It's the conundrum of free speech. If you are going to have free speech then you have to accept speech that you find sick and offensive as well because obviously there is a part of the population that does NOT find this sick or offensive.
I look at it this way, if someone was fantasizing about killing your child...how serious would you take that?
Would you just say "eh, it's just fantasy...im sure it's harmless, besides this is america and everyone has the right to fantasize about killing whoever they want!"
or would you feel your childs safety MIGHT be in danger?

This is another example of a constitutional amendment that has itself been amended, even if the text of the amendment itself has not been altered. According to wikipedia,
"The Supreme Court has held that "advocacy of the use of force" is unprotected when it is "directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action" and is "likely to incite or produce such action"'. This has also been coined as "clear & present danger".
While such limitation appears to directly conflict with the 1st Amendment, there is at least enough legal precedence in such cases that I doubt it would ever get out of hand. And if it did, the Supreme Court would put a stop to it pretty quickly.
JJ Murray: I'd say that'd the crux of the case. The courts will need to prove either a conspiracy or that he alone was taking positive steps toward his goal, rather than just idly fantasizing.
He broke into the police database illegally and obtained information on his intended victims. He also made plans to kidnap a woman and deliver her to the guy in New Jersey to be raped and murdered. That is pretty damning evidence of conspiracy.

This just gets weirder and weirder. In our society, making a plan is accepted as evidence that you are serious about actually doing something. I have to agree, if only because once a plan is written down, it makes the fantasy more concrete and in certain susceptible people, it would probably end up inducing them to act out physically. If these people had better impulse control, they wouldn't be making plans, discussing online, whipping themselves into a frenzy, etc. So, while this person might actually believe he would never act on it, most people don't realize how close they are to crossing that line, especially not mentally ill people like this, with relatively little insight into themselves, nor empathy for others. Even if he goes to jail, I predict we will hear more about him once he gets out, as it is unlikely he is able to change at this time in his life.
If you recall how quickly Jeffrey Dahmer was killed in prison after he was convicted, it should be pretty obvious that he will never live to get out.
