NEW YORK -- The one-day-old baby boy delivered by C-section after his parents were killed by a hit-and-run driver in Brooklyn died Monday, and police have narrowed their search for the driver.
Doctors performed an emergency C-section to deliver the premature infant after a BMW sedan slammed into the cab carrying expectant parents Nachman and Raizy Glauber, who were on their way to the hospital because the mother-to-be felt ill. The boy had been in intensive care since the delivery.
Police are still looking for the driver who struck the cab at the intersection of Wilson Street and Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, police said. Police said they are looking for Julio Acevedo, a 44-year-old Brooklyn man who served time in prison for a 1987 shooting death.
Sources said the BMW was speeding at more than 60 mph when it hit the cab.
Authorities have said a male driver and a passenger in the BMW fled the scene of the accident on foot.
Raizy Glauber was thrown from the car and her body landed under a parked tractor-trailer, witnesses said. Nachman Glauber was pinned in the car, and emergency workers had to cut off the roof to get him out, witnesses told police.
Nachman Glauber was pronounced dead at Beth Israel Hospital, while his wife died at Bellevue, police said. The couple's son was pronounced dead a day later, his death ruled extreme prematureness due to maternal blunt force injuries.
'God's will'
Hours after the infant's death, Joseph Silverstein, Raizy Glauber's older brother, told NBC 4 New York in the hallway of the couple's building that "this is God's will."
Silverstein said he and other family members were able to see the baby before he passed away, but he declined to elaborate.
The driver of the livery cab survived the crash. He was taken to Beth Israel Hospital in stable condition, police said.
Police said Takia Walker, 29, of the Bronx, owned the BMW involved in the fatal crash but was not behind the wheel. She was arrested early Monday on insurance fraud charges, accused of allowing a third party who was not on her vehicle insurance policy to drive her car.
On Saturday, Raizy Glauber "was not feeling well, so they decided to go" to the hospital, said Sara Glauber, Nachman Glauber's cousin.
The Glaubers were married about a year and had begun a life together in Williamsburg, where Raizy Glauber grew up in a prominent rabbinical family, Sara Glauber said.
Raised north of New York City in Monsey, N.Y., and part of a family that founded a line of clothing line, Nachman Glauber was studying at a rabbinical college nearby, said his cousin.
"You don't meet anyone better than him," she said. "He was always doing favors for everyone."
Sara Glauber also said her cousin and his bride had a unique connection, and that it was appropriate they died together. "If one had to go, the other had to go too because they really were one soul," she said.

What the scumbag NBC reporter forgot to report is the guy is a illegal alien.
Go get him boys, show no mercy... No sympathy for baby killers here...
It would be different if he had some accountability for the crime. But no, he ran. So go get him...
If you hate NBC so much then why are you on the blogs? Makes no sense. I am sure Faux News can wet your pallet for the news they report.
Julieann,
"Wet your pallet?" I've never heard it put in those terms before. You whet my palate for more.
How do you know the guy is an illegal alien? Is that being reported elsewhere?
theQ5454 - if he was an illegal, why wasn't he deported after spending time in prison? Why would he be out on parole? Where are you getting your information? FFS, get over yourself. Don't hijack this tragedy for your own personal issues! How do ideologues like you live with yourselves?
He probably didn't forget. Reporting such is not PC. Therefore ........
Amused Muse
You are right. It should be about how he could afford a BMW. Or maybe why the hell he was driving 60 mph in one of the most densely populated cities in the country.
If he was an immigrant he should be deported. If not just dump him in the ocean.
Illegal alien? I think if he were then when he was arrested in 1987 for a shooting, he would have been deported then. My prayers go out to this family, so tragic.
denver bill 2, thanks for the laugh but I was not in the mood to get it "right". At least you understood my point, that is all that matters.
Don't worry Julieann, this grammer cop and troll usually will "whet" his depends during the day........
John737278
the guy driving the BMW was NOT the owner. He was just using it. So, he didn't have to afford it. Why was he going 60 MPH? No telling...running from the law, running from another crime, any one of a number of reasons, none of which would have made any sense...
As he already displayed by his previous crime of causing someone else's death, he doesn't value anyone else's life. It's all about him, and what he wants.
May all manner of awful things manifest in his life...
Mornin' bill, cory...
Looks closely realted to George Zimmerman.
Whyisitthat when something like this happens, the people who were in the wrong, run away ok from an accident that almost instantly killed two people? Then, eventually a third...
Too bad it wasn't the other way around...
IXLR8,
denver bill throws sarc around for fun. He's not a troll. We enjoy reading his posts. See Julieann's response...
Now yours, was not enjoyable to read. There was no fun in it..... Try again... (sarc) ;-)
It was a 1997 BMW, with Pennsylvania plates. This guy was nabbed for driving drunk in it two weeks ago.
I thought perhaps it had been stolen, but he was not charged with auto theft.
There are a lot of unanswered questions here, and there is always the possibility that he is not a citizen - but having a Latino name does not automatically make him an illegal. I see this kind of talk from right-wing websites and it ticks me off. Way to win elections by appealing to the Hispanic vote, guys!
There are all kinds of illegals in this country, from other nations besides Mexico. The whole "undocumented worker" PC nonsense gets my goat, but frankly, I am more upset about the "legal" outsourcing of U.S. jobs and the importation of foreign nations for engineering work at lower salaries that could go to U.S. citizens.
This guy has quite a rap sheet. He's evil, but I don't know how he could be an illegal alien with so much contact with law enforcement: http://brooklyn.news12.com/news/search-intensifies-for-julio-acevedo-in-fatal-hit-and-run-of-expectant-couple-nathan-and-raizy-glauber-1.4752043?firstfree=yes
I feel bad for the family. But why would they arrest the owner of the car? Are you not aloud to let anyone use your car? I thought if they were at least 25 it was o.k. I think the police are looking for anyone to arrest.

The rest of the story on the car business:
There is still something fishy here. The car he was caught drunk driving in two weeks ago was also a BMW, but it wasn't the same car. Almost sounds like there is a fleet of BMWs being rented out illegally to people who can't get hold of vehicles by a legal means.
Letting someone use your car is Always a bad idea. They probably initially arrested the owner to obtain info. Whenever a vehicle owner lends someone else their car they are taking a HUGE risk. If someone gets in an accident with your car you can be sued for everything you have or forced to pay lots of money for years. Plus your insurance rates skyrocket. aside from that who would want to carry the sadness and remorse of such a heartbreaking tragedy the rest of their life just because they were nice enough to lend a car
Honest question to all who do not want the death penalty.... Would you want this guy to serve a prison sentence for murder... then when released he kills your entire family... OR would you have him executed using leathal injection where he can't kill anyone else in his POS life?
How is a man released from prison for a murder shooting death?? It is New York and liberal Bloomberg may have paroled him......
Did ten years for murder, was paroled, violated parole, went back for two more years, released.
The woman who bought the car has a web site, business license, bought the car, obtained insurance for it, gave it to a middle man who either gave or rented it to the excon.
Every time I go back to try and verify what I read early this morning, the information gets shorter. ????
clarkjoebob, no you can't let anyone else drive your car unless they are listed on your insurance as a covered driver (and you are charged a higher rate to have other drivers covered.) If you lend your car to someone who is not listed on your insurance and they have an accident, then all damages are your responsibility. I think a lot of people have found this out the hard way. When you apply for car insurance they ask such questions as: "Will the insured driver of this car be the only driver?" and "List any other drivers who will be driving this car." If you don't list any potential drivers of your car and another driver has an accident in your car, not only are you not covered but you have committed insurance fraud by not listing them and then letting them drive your car. Then, also, you will have a terrible time trying to find car insurance again and when you do... the price is through the roof... no matter how good of a driving record YOU might have.
Obviously, if your car is stolen you will want to notify police immediately and have that on record because it might be very hard to prove later that you didn't lend your car to the person who, in fact, stole it... especially if that person is a family member or a friend who stole it!
Back - since he wasnt sentenced to prison for life, your question makes very little sense.
Would I rather warehouse someone for 50-60 years until they die, or just turn their lights out after their trial?
I would rather turn their lights out.
But if you arent sentenced to life in prison with no parole, then no...im not a fan of execution...obviously.
The son of the governor of Iowa, Eric Branstad killed two people when he was 16. The ensuing handling of the case from start to finish leaves far too many unanswered questions to claim that there was no coverup. Needless to say, he received a traffic ticket because no alcohol charges arose from the the clearly rigged investigation and rfeckless driving didn;t warrant manslaughter charges at the time. He continues to drive like an a-hole from his records, and his father, Governor Terry Branstad, republican, has been nailed for drunk driving himself. Despite that, he was elected again after an extended absence by "conservative christian" voters (a lot of catholics) and Farm Bureau. Most likely because he's a puppet for them.
screminmimi-- It's likely that the woman who owns the car is a front and related to the criminal in some way. He takes the proceeds from his criminal enterprise and gives it to her to invest in her business and the car. She probably owns a apartment house or two. He's probably the real owner of the car but keeps it in her name to protect his assets. Just like mobsters kept their assets in other peoples names so they couldn't be seized today's gangsters do the same things. And when they're immigrants it can be hard to find out who's related to each other.
Hi Wombat,
Thank you so much for your obviously balanced diatribe/rant. It's this kind of unbiased fact-reporting that makes the internet such a wonderful place where one can learn all sorts of major truths in life.
To everyone else not a partisan zealot,
It's a tough thing to make so many conclusions based on such spotty information as in these articles about this tragedy. If the man the cops want to arrest did this, then fry him. Fine with me. I'm intrigued by the above comment that the woman who owned the car was, it seems evident if the poster is right, makes a living by providing cars to people who have no lawful right to own one. If that turns out to be true then she will wish the only charges against her were for fraud. I can easily see facilitation, or even being an accomplice to the murders.
I don't get Mr. Silverman. Probably because I am not a believer. But even if I were I cannot imagine that the God he believes in would allow a POS of a man to take three innocent lives, two of which everyone says were nothing but good, one of which had no chance to make a difference in this world. Such a God would be far too selfish it seems to me, having wanted to take two good people and one unborn baby to Him. For what purpose? To highlight the evils of drunk driving? Why not just make the driver of the BMW hit a bridge abutment at high speed so that only he dies?
God's will is have a man drive into a cab and kill a family? Did he also decide to have this man commit vehicular homicide? Placing a man jail for his own willful desire should make all believers question their belief.
"Takia Walker"
Irish Protestant I'm guessing?
Spelling errors can be so funny!
Rich... you called wombat out, which is fine if you can refute what he said.
If you can't refute the story he presented, then your sarcastic rant has no value - it's just name calling.
You called him out, now back it up. Show why his partisan zealotness changed the facts of the story he presented.
Thanks.
Hey, Katherine and Shimon - exactly how many lines of clothing did this family actually found? Ever try editing or proofreading your articles before publishing. Oh, that's right! This is NBCNews.com where no one has enough pride in his or her work to try to do it well.
clarkjoebob - Really?!? This is an excellent example of why this country is in deep, deep trouble. People are becoming more and more ignorant and could care less. The word is "allowed".
@ Jessica....
So since it's ok for this guy to get released (for murdering someone back when he was 18 years old), you're ok with him wiping out your whole family.... nice...
My problem is that since HE murdered someone years ago, he SHOULD have received the death penalty. You're ok that this guy was able to murder another whole family... Could just as easily have been yours.
Can't be related to George Zimmerman. As Sharpton and Obama have said, Zimmerman is white.
NYPD: get this scum!
Once again we are confronted by the faces of innocence and evil.
On one hand we have a man and women who have invested in life, through their marriage and the conception of a child.
On the other hand we have a selfish, evil human being who through his willful acts has now taken from us not just the lives of this couple and their innocent child but others.
This person's life without a doubt has been like specter spreading death, evil and wickedness surely as a farmer would sow seeds, now comes the harvest and it is all pain, suffering corruption and other matrixes of evil.
When will we understand the true nature of good and evil and stop being ignorant of both their virtues and mend our ways?

When we wake up and take charge of our lives and our country again. When we take same out of the hands of the idiot elites who control our lives at all levels and assume responsibility for our own behavior and decide to not tolerate people like the murderer in this story any longer. When we decide to become clear minded and see through the smoke and mirrors of the bullsh*t we've been taught about tolerance and acceptance of vermin from all over the Earth who do not share sane, civilized values, who would simply slaughter all civilized people in an instant if given the opportunity. We can no longer afford the current self immolation and cultural suicide known as political correctness and multiculturalism.
So much hyperbole so early in the day.
Optimus Omega--this tragedy could have been prevented IF the US (and ICE, and Homeland security) did not take such a laisse faire attitude towards illegals in this country.
The PERP in this case had been CONVICTED of 2nd degree murder, paroled, deported, came BACK using his (illegally held--supposed to be surrendered when deported) green card, and has since been arrested for drug possession, selling drugs to a cop (heroin, BTW) and been deported again. And came back again.
In an appeal (US court of Appeals, 229.F.3d 300 2nd Cir. 2000, United States of America Appellee V Julio Amezquito Acevedo, AKA Ramon Rodriguez, AKA Victor Gelarza) (please note, that is at least 2 FAKE ID's he had been known to use!) some of his crimes are listed, and his appeal is denied to be allowed to stay here.
And yet, here he is, back again. Arrested only 2 weeks ago for DUI. HOW was he released from jail with that record?
My guess would be because NY is a SANCTUARY State, and does not CHECK.
And if they HAD, this little family would still be alive.
MO-maid - the case that your citing has nothing to do with this guy. Just because they have the same name doesn't make them the same person. I bet you think John Smith is a complete monster, as well, don't you.
The case you're citing was for a Dominican convicted of manslaughter in 85. This guy was convicted in 87. The case your citing, the guy was deported in 90. This guy, wasn't.
I appreciate your inventive approach to trying to force the world to meet your narrative, but unless you have actual research and proof, please shut the hell up.
This tragedy has nothing to do with immigration. Please crawl back into your hole.
I don't know if this person is illeagal or not, but what I know for sure is that he is a killer. He killed somebody over two decades ago, long before either of the parents were even born. Now the way I see it if he had still been in prison for that act, three innocent people would still be here and moving on with their lives.
Gallahad--yes, we DO know he was an illegal. He has, in addition to the prison time he received in the 80's, been arrrested repeatedly, deported at least once, and YET, when he was arrested 2 weeks ago on a DUI, he was released!
let's make it simple. MOmaid you're wrong.
That being said, this has nothing to do with immigration. I'm surprised you haven't tried to accuse this guy of being gay or anti-Israel as well.
Shut
the
hell
up.
Hmmm - I don't recall the article mentioning that, only that he's a convicted felon. Dunno how you came up with the ASSumption from the article just because he has a Latin name he must be an illegal alien.
What he IS - and the passenger riding with him at the time of the accident - is a COWARD. A low life piece of crap that was more in fear of spending time in jail than helping this poor man and woman... he may've been able to save a life. Though not a religious person by any means, I do believe if there is a hell there is a special place for people like him and his cohort. Karma will find you, and she's gonna be PISSED.
And to add to what Cathy V has stated...if Acevedo is an illegal alien then once he was released from prison he would have been deported because of the extent of his crime.
yeah deported but they have a knack of getting back into our country..again unless it's in another story that I haven't read I don't know if he's here illegally or not but either way, homegrown killer or imported one, he needs to be found
Cathy--before you accuse someone ELSE of an 'ASSumption', do some research of your own.
Try, for instance, GOOGLE-ing the perp.
He WAS illegal, and has been convicted not only of second degree murder and Drug charges, but of illegally entering the country AFTER being deported for being illegal when convicted of the murder.
And just because someone has a hispanic name (or at least 3), in this case, does not make them LEGAL either.
Momaid - we did try google-ing the perp. Nothing on his immigration status. Although "google-ing" it does turn up a lot of racists @!$%#s like you who are insisting he's illegal. Since both he and his mom live in low-income housing in Brooklyn, looks like you're full of it.
Since we can't find any of the references that support your statements, please, feel free to post a link to an actual factual resource showing what you're saying.
Dumbass. This is a tragedy. You're just a racist POS. It does not matter if he was legal or not, he murdered a family. Trying to go political is just ridiculous. It's like you're saying the REASON why he did this is because he's illegal, like immigrants like to kill people for kicks.
Do us a favor and go straight to hell. Thanks!
Momaid;
please show us the link oh yeah that's right you can't because your just spitting out crap from your mouth he is LEGAL not ILLEGAL he was in Brooklyn, New York all of his life. Just Because someone is Hispanic Does not mean they are illegal My Last name is Gonzalez im Spaniard but i was born in Manhattan, New York so are you going to call me an illegal? You seem so quick to judge the statues of someone living here in America.
Dear Rose and Travis,
Before you go calling Momaid names and accusing them of being racist, please do yourselves a favor and research this more in depth. This case made zero sense to me when I read this article, and heard it on the news initially. The facts, as presented here, do not add up. So, I read more articles… turns out all/most of the news outlets are only publishing parts of the story. Why? I have my theories, but they are irrelevant at the moment.
From reading more about this case, and the suspect, and the car's owner, and the cabbie for that matter, I suspect that this was every bad luck thing that could have come together… did… thus leaving an entire young family wiped out.
Some facts I'd like to share from my research:
1. The cabbie shouldn't have been picking up passengers as his livery license wasn't issued yet.
2. The owner of the BMW was already being investigated for insurance fraud. Apparently she bought the car legally, and insured it under her name… then, without notifying the insurance company, gave it to a middleman who in turn used to rent it out to people who couldn't otherwise rent a car.
3. The suspect, Julio Acevedo, "a native of the Dominican Republic, first entered the United States in January 1984. In October 1985, Acevedo pled guilty to manslaughter in New York Supreme Court, New York County, and was sentenced in December 1985 to a term of six to eighteen years' imprisonment. In November 1990, he was deported to the Dominican Republic in connection with the manslaughter conviction. Acevedo apparently failed to surrender his green card to the Immigration and Naturalization Service ("INS") upon deportation, although such surrender is routinely required." (source: JudicialView(dot)com/Court-Cases/Immigration/United-States-Of-America-v.-Julio-Amezquito-Acevedo/30/182387)
4. In the state of NY, it is illegal to knowingly allow an unlicensed person to operate your vehicle. Any accidents, crimes or damages done by the unlicensed driver while operating your vehicle is the responsibility of the vehicle owner… the owner can and usually is therefore held liable for any infractions of the unlicensed driver. Therefore, the owner of the vehicle, in this case is likely in a heap of trouble… (my guess, going by what I've read)
5. Since the suspect is here illegally, he doesn't have any valid license. I'm not saying he doesn't have a drivers license, I'm just saying its not valid if he does. He forfeited any legal and valid state or federal identification, including his green card, social security card, and drivers license when he was deported. Since he didn't reenter the US by legal means any ID he now has – has been obtained by illegal means and is invalid. This applies to ALL illegal immigrants its not singling him out or racism.
The suspects national origin is irrelevant. I don't care what the color of his skin is, or what his native language is, etc, etc. I don't even care what his immigration status is to tell you the truth. Okay, I do, but other things are more important in this case… he drove wrecklessly through the streets of NY (speed limit is usually 30 MPH, he was supposedly doing 60), crashed into another car… killing 3 people, fled the scene of the accident (also illegal BTW) and is being given the opportunity to surrender himself.
Regardless of his status, he is a criminal, he killed 3 people on Sunday, then fled the scene…
For what it's worth, when people here take the time to research the facts on their own and discover more of the background, and get angry that on top of what happened, he's illegally here… its infuriating to see another example of our government asleep at the wheel… its not racism, its just stating the facts and being realistic. Due to the negligence of our government, this person, who has been convicted of manslaughter in the past, was somehow allowed back into our society, again wracked up quite an impressive rap sheet… punctuated now with this fatal accident.
No matter how you look at this… its messed up and very sad.
westchester
Well i'm definitely one to admit when i'm wrong...and i was wrong about you...you are NOT a retard like i previously stated...on the contrary it seams you've done your research outside of the information in this article (which was very vague about alot of things) and you've found some actual FACTS and not just opinions like most people on here post...so i apologize to you and i thank you for posting FACTS
1987 prison for shooting but ill take your word for it
Thank you Jasper Cat… I appreciate your post.
Its too bad our media outlets are in such a rush to publish the news that they don't do their due diligence in researching what they are writing about more thoroughly. Maybe if they would start doing so, the public would be better informed. The way this article (and most others, even on other sites) was written, we are left with information that doesn't add up and a ton of questions. I don't like assuming things so I tried to research more information on my own. I'm new here and they won't let me post links, so pasting in the sources of additional information was frustrating (to say the least).
westchester - again, you have the wrong Julio Acevedo. I looked up that case as well. Dates are off. Julio is an extremely common first name. Acevedo is a common last name. Thank you for acknowledging that his immigration status has nothing to do with the case. I'm in complete agreement with the rest of your points.
What is more dangerous than a mentally unstable person with a gun in their hand? People like Julio Acevedo. There are drunks all over the road every day, of every week, of every month. This guy killed 3 innocent people because the state did not revoke his PRIVILEGE to drive. People don't have a right to drive, but people have a right to legally own a gun. If the public wants to cry about something, why not cry about the fact that the states do nothing to protect you from a drunk driver. When was the last time you were ALMOST shot by someone? When was the last time you saw a drunk driving on the road?
I worry more about the Idiots looking down texting. What's up with this word, it is a word isn't it? Spell check says it isn't.
It bothers me that States do not have strict laws on drunk driving especially when it involves innocent people who are injured or killed. Recently, an acquaintance was nabbed in July of 2011 in the Hamptons on Long Island. His blood alcohol content was at least 3 times the legal limit, first he hit a vehicle, then hit a bicyclist, and attempted to flea the scene of the accident until eyewitnesses managed to corner his vehicle from getting away. The guy is serving 3 to 10 years in upstate NY and lost his license to practice law. Fortunately no one was killed but this guy could not admit his wrong doing...until the time of his sentencing when he was forced (due to no money) to plead guilty. The judge said he did not believe he had any remorse. This guy is one of those socialite people who fraudulently ties himself to unknown so-called "charity" events where like people gather to drink their lives away. I do not believe 3 to 10 years is sufficient even if it was his first time offense. There is a good chance he will be paroled on good behavior but he will go back to his ways...people like him do that because he has stated on numerous occasions that he was not born into a rich prominent family. Seriously!!
Then in the early evening of January 30th, here in NJ, a dear friend and an acquaintance were out on the town having a few drinks. They stopped by my apartment for me to join them. I immediately noticed they had too much to drink. I offered to drive them. The acquaintance became belligerent so I backed off with my offer but looked to my dear friend and asked him to let me drive him home. He refused so my instinct was to follow them as they drove away. I got in my car and witnessed the vehicle swerving; it made me very nervous. About 2 miles away they made a turn onto a side street where a block in he it a parked pick-up truck, became airborne & the vehicle flipped upside down as it hit another on-coming pick-up truck. The small (1990's Izuzu SUV) broke apart in pieces. Today's vehicles don't break that easily when speed is not a contributing factor. I was stunned at what I had just witnessed. I was relieved that I was not stupid enough to get in that vehicle but smart enough to follow them. I called 911 while the guy in the on-coming pick-up truck ranted about his $60k desiel pick-up truck (not more than $2k worth of damage). Both guys were taken to the nearest trauma center. Within a few hours the driver walked out with just stitches in his head while my friend, the passenger, was still fighting for his life. He finally made it out of ICU with a fractured vertebrae and bone fragment in his spine. He spent a month in a rehabilitation center but still has quite a long ways to go. He cannot walk without a walker and still needs to be evaluated over time for internal injuries. I have been trying to find out what is going on with the arrest of the driver who was clearly drunk. I was told he was arrested for DWI and vehicular assault. This is not his first offense and he has spent time in jail but according to NJ law sentences for DWI are viewed as a first time offense every 10 years they occur. That means the most he will get for this offense is UP TO 5 years!! I am not thrilled with this at all.
I decided rather than just voicing my opinion on the web or all about town, I am putting my words into action and have begun to write to my State's elected officials to change the laws here in NJ. Repeat offenders should not be on the road.
too busy trying to ban a gun that has very little to do with crime that pulls more heart strings. DUI's kill far far more people but no one seems to want to touch that topic. what you say fiesty?
One thing puzzling me is, okay, I can agree that the woman shouldn't've lent this particular guy her car, and he needs to be super-nailed, but seriously, it's now *illegal* to let somebody use your car?
bobkat-1879142... I was thinking the same thing, if a person is not on your insurance, then you can be charged with insurance fraud? That sucks.... I knew there was a good reason I ride a bike....lol
I was wondering the same thing. I had never heard of such a law. I'm sure that there are a lot of people breaking that law!
Glad I never let anyone drive my car!! I think the law should be that if you have a driver's license then you should have insurance after all that is why you have a driver's license...to drive regardless if it is your vehicle or someone else's vehicle. Otherwise if you won't be driving then you do not need a driver's license and can obtain a county or state ID card instead.
Bobkat - not that I know of. I sure hope it isn't bacause I loan my truck to friends all the time. I even called my insurance agent & they said friends could use my vehicle & be covered - but no more than 12 times in a year and they can't be a member of your household - that is GA laws, dont know about NJ
I would think this is, or should be, a totally civil matter between the owner of the policy, and the insurance company. At least according to every policy I have ever had in 36 years of driving, you can let someone drive your car, but there are limits, and they are always spelled out in the policy.
It should only become a criminal matter when the person has broken the contract, and tries to collect on the policy fraudulently.
It varies by policy and by state. In my state and with my policy, anyone in the household should be on my policy, but if someone else has my permission to borrow the car, my insurance follows my car for someone outside my household. That person's insurance becomes secondary to my insurance if an accident happens. So I can be held liable if someone I lent my car to gets into an accident.
I think it depends on your insurance, but I know that on mine I can't allow anyone who Lives with me drive my car unless they are on my insurance.
Maybe the laws are different in NY or the fact that the guy already had DUI's against him? I don't know.
Personally I have no tolerance for drunks or druggies. If you are arrested for your first DUI it should be losing your license for 6mos. 2nd, Jail for a year. 3rd. 10yrs and lost of license for ilfe.
We need to take these drunks off the road. The courts need to issue strong sentences against them.
As for vehicular homocide, they should be charged with premeditated murder. They KNEW when they got drunk and then behind the wheel that they were a danger to anyone on the road. That's enough pre-meditation for me.
it's illegal if they can't be insured! Do you really want someone driving your car if no one will insure them??? Your as dumb as the lady that loaned her car to this killer. Who is going to pay for the deaths and damage from this UNINSURED motorist??daaaaa
You can absolutely loan someone your car and your insurance follows your car. There's nothing illegal about that, nor does it violate your insurance policy (mine at least, with State Farm). There must be something else missing from this story.
Heavens---from what I have read, the police suspect the OWNER of the vehicle of buying up numerous cars and then making money off of 'loaning' (for money!) them to people who couldn't otherwise have access to a vehicle. (in this guy's case, he was here illegally,)
That is committing fraud, since she got insurance supposedly for HER to be the driver when her intent was to rent it out.
@ Barry...
If you tell your insurance company that you will be the only driver.... you pay $xxx amount..
So if you then let your family drive, your not paying the increased premiums.. hence you are cheating the insurance company out of money... fraud.
@Heavens.... YOU need to read your policy... Unless you are PAYING for that option, then you are in for a rude awakening...
Also, if say your father had a car in his name and it was insured, then he passed away... That insurance is null and void.. Your mom couldn't drive the car even IF she was on the insurance.. This is why both spouse should be on the registration together...
The owner of a car, just like the owner of a gun, should be held accountable for the safe, responsible use of their property by anyone who has their permission to use it. My truck is never driven by anyone except a mechanic during necessary maintenance.
My family has always been able to drive my vehicle without an increase in premium. The only requirement was that if they lived in the home and had their license the insurance company had to be notified.
Actually that is not true with the registration. Considering the fact that any assets that are owned by one person in a marriage (at least in NY) are owned by both would not make the insurance null and void. The vehicle automatically becomes the property of the surviving spouse. Of course they will need to re-register the vehicle under their name in a reasonable period of time but it does not make the insurance null and void especially if both are on the insurance. Same thing with divorce, in fact, my ex could not cancel the insurance on the vehicle that I drove even though it was registered in his name when we got divorced without giving me the option to re-register it under my name per the insurance company.
This Guy has had previous DUI'S when are we going to Stop these Drunks from getting Behind the Wheel now they are Killing Unborn Babies when will it Stop Never because the Lawmakers are all Drinkers and or Alcoholics All of this Mayhem over and around Alcohol and Cannabis is still illegal Just doesn't make sense.
Sad story and all, but quick question....
I know the husband is Jew, but......
What in the HOLY PHUCK is that thing on the guy's head?????
It's call a shtreimel, a traditional hat worn mostly by married Hasidic men...this one is particularly elaborate for the marriage ceremony.
Ya no doubt, i want one of those hats.
i hope they get him ,and nail his ass to the wall, big time
what's the point. They should have done that in 87, and this wouldn't have happened at all
He will hide like a cockroach in NYC. I bet they don't find this one and will be a long term America's Most wanted poster boy.....
I don't understand the insurance fraud charge on the women. I have insurance on it covers whom ever is driving the car.
Does he live with her? In my state I have to have anyone who lives with me on my insurance if I'm to allow them to drive my car.
That could be it.
From what I read, it depends on the carrier, and state… but in NY, it is illegal to knowingly allow an unlicensed person to operate your vehicle. The insurance fraud part is stemming from the shady circumstances under which the car was purchased and/or how it was most recently being used (by an unrelated person who was then lending/renting it out to people who were unlicensed or otherwise unable to rent a car by normal means). Of course, no one news article or source seems to be printing a well-rounded article with all the information, so we have to research ourselves if we want information that makes more sense.
I believe it depends o which state you live and what the insurance laws are in that state.
well if he is an illegal and again I don't know, he wont be for long..ever noticed how they skip mighty fast back over that border when they do crimes here....lol..they are gone!!!!
I hope the police get him. Plus the other idiot in the article, Joesph Sliverstein saying that their death was "God's Will". Would any God want that to happen to anyone?
It was not "God's will". It was a drunk (probably), ex con, illegal Mexican driving like a maniac. This happens almost daily in Texas. Such is not the result of "God's will". It is the result of living in a PC/MC fantasy world about allowing these third world vermin to come to and live in the US. Political correctness and multiculturalism are mental illnesses and abject failures all over the world. Third world losers use them only for their gain and our loss. These deaths are also on you, liquor lobby and state legislators, as they are all over the US. How many tens of thousands of innocent people have to be sacrificed to the gods of alcohol and PC/MC before we stop it?
I hope the police kill him when they find him.
Pray Hard--just for the record, this perp was NOT Mexican. He was from the Dominican Republic.
For all the rest, tho, ABSOLUTLY.
"It was God's will"--If it is that's not a God that I'd choose to worship.
How the hell does a loser, convict, ahole, like that get to drive a Bimmer, and im stuck in a crappy grand am.
because no one makes sure they follow the rules and you probably do follow rules like a good little taxpayer.
Police said Takia Walker, 29, of the Bronx, owned the BMW involved in the fatal crash but was not behind the wheel. She was arrested early Monday on insurance fraud charges, accused of allowing a third party who was not on her vehicle insurance policy to drive her car. this is way off subject, but i did not know that it was illegal to let a friend borrow your car. wow, People do it all the time. and then its fraud? those damn insurance companies, thats there way of not paying up.
Simply Put
Wonder what else Julio was "driving" that was Takia's?
I'd like to know how many cars are out there in her name and who is driving them. This car scam is costing us all and I hope they don't ignore it but instead look into ways of detecting others doing the same.
I think the insurance law is a good one. Too many times in the past, this same accident has happened and the owner's lawyer would argue that they weren't driving the car and the person hit would end up paying for the damage themselves. Now, as an owner of an automobile, you have to take responsibility for someone driving your vehicle. Don't like it? Don't own a vehicle.
Oh, and I hope someone else OTHER than the law gets this guy. Cause the law will be too easy on him. Time to pay up.
hmmm, he didn't follow the law to a tee. what can we ban? gotta be something irrelevant left.
Had the executed the trash in 87 when convicted, this would have never happened. Ex cons in BMWs. And they wonder why we are so irritable all the time. Death penalty saves lives!
I think that Acevedo and his passenger are cowards. They should have known that they would be found out sooner or later. Bigger cowards for not even checking on the couple. Can't even tell them to man up, because they aren't men. Also leaving their friend who owns the car take the rap. She was wrong, too, Still they don't step up. Cowards
What kind of community would hide this guy?
Hasidicksucker Rabbis are pretty serious when it comes to not being able to circumcise new baby penises!
They love the taste, hence the new name I've given them.
Francis--and YOU are digusting with your prejudice.
I bet YOU don't even like the taste in YOUR mouth from such ugliness.
We see this type of thing time and again. Our society insists on being 'fair' to habitual criminals, who are anything but fair to their victims, intended and unintended.
Time to take these morons off the streets permanently.
Julio Acevedo needs to die, period.
