NEW YORK CITY -- A Greyhound bus bound for New York City had to pull over and evacuate Friday because it was infested with roaches that dropped from the ceiling and skittered across seats and the floor, terrorizing riders.
Mothers tried to shield their children and riders jumped into the aisle of the bus as roaches bolted out of cracks and crevices, seemingly all at once, about 15 minutes after the 10 a.m. ET bus left Atlantic City, passengers told NBC 4 New York.
"All of a sudden the roaches came out of nowhere, they were on the floor, they were falling from the ceiling," said Andy Rodriguez, a passenger.
Tracy Harmon told NBC 4 New York that "people were shrieking and shaking roaches off."
"It was terrible," she said.
The bus was carrying 48 people and an unknown number of roaches, according to Greyhound.

"Once the driver became aware of the situation, the driver followed procedures by pulling the bus over to a safe location and notifying our dispatch office," Greyhound spokesman Timothy Stokes said.
A second bus was sent to pick up the passengers, and they later arrived at Port Authority Bus Terminal.
Greyhound said the company apologizes and has refunded the trip for all the passengers.

Definitely not the Cheech & Chong Roach Coach.....
The bus came from Atlantic City. Maybe it was a holdover from the Betting on America tour.
The roaches heard that you could get sugary drinks over 16ozs.. So their moving back to Brooklyn.
When the rats get hungry enough they'll eat the roaches.
Snakes on a Plane II: Roaches on a Bus.
Seriously though...did the roaches have bus tickets?
I thing for sure, them roaches did not infest that bus overnight, there had to be a earlier sighting and nothing was done. Can you imagine the law suits that are about to happen when people get home and decide they have all the sudden got roaches, when they had them all along? bet the company ends up paying for some homes to get sprayed and bombed for bugs.
Wow.
That was a clean bus...as far as Greyhound busses go.
"The bus was carrying 48 people and an unknown number of roaches, according to Greyhound."
LOL! Props to the PR guy that made that statement, nice to see some truth from corporations.
Cool, they were all going to NYC's annual family roach reunion.
Roaches?? No. They're called "illegals"!
Hummmmm ... Greyhound will now become known permanently as the "Roach Coach" ... lol
WT7825503... Everything is probably an opportunity for you to use the 'no, they're illegal' line. It's getting so old. All countries have illegals, we may have more (who knows?) because for some reason people think we have more (sorry, the rich have it all guarded) but we do not have 'disappeared' people, or people stoned to death in the streets while crowds cheer. We were meant to be a refuge.
NOW, instead of complaining, get it together and find a way for people not to have to hide so they can pay taxes! And I'm not just talking about those who already have tax shelters, I'm talking about those that need actual shelter from the storm.
They scream because they see Steven Roach? Me too.
At least they didn't have any guns. :)
How about entering the country legally? That might do it.
Anyone who has had the bad luck to use Greyhound to travel anywhere can't be surprised. These buses are filthy. I had to take one some years ago to NYC--I waited until stops to use the bathroom off the bus. They are germs on wheels, mobile cesspools. I used to travel Greyhound all the time when I was a kid to visit grandma--the buses were much better kept than they are now.
By contrast, I visited Guadalajara,Mexico, about 10 years ago. A friend and I took a bus to see another city. I was shocked at the comfort and relative luxury. There was a monitor for movies and we were served refreshments! The bus was pristine.
Can you imagine how frightened those roached were when that bus started moving after setting for ages as their home? They just wanted to come out and enjoy the scenic landscape after living a dull life setting in a parking lot.
The cockroaches must have been terrified at the sight of all those New Yorkers.
Ban roaches.
Watch out Greyhound - one story like this the public will want you to cease to exist - just ask Carnival.
This is all Obama's fault
They refunded the bus fare, but when those people's homes get infested from the ones that the passengers carried home with them, they will have no way of proving that is where they came from.
Atlantic City roaches have a subtle but recognizable "Philly" influence to their accent that differentiates them from Noo Yawk roaches........
Are the Public Sector Unions protesting in New York?
The bugs are not only on the greyhound web site, which is pathetic.
The roaches were just returning home from vacation.
Roaches take a road trip to New York for Spring Break !
Those roaches were just trying to get to the CPAC meeting, but like the rest of the baggers and cons they were totally lost and got on the wrong bus. Too bad they will miss the dimmest of the dim today, Sarah what's her name. ASHLEY JUDD (DEM-KY) 2014! Adios Mitch.
Sycophant much? You wonder why we call you loonie lefties.
Honest? I'll not attempt a battle of wits with an unarmed man.
Oh boy that was clever, got any other material that you've ripped off of other people?
Yeah...his name. Obviously wouldn't make a pimple on a Hatfields' azz...
Very cute Moderate. Did it ever occur that the Hatfields go back a long way in Kentucky and that many of them would hate Mitch McConnell who only has about 15% of the people that would vote for him over someone else? But then again maybe you and honestdebate may be two of those idiots.
I know a few people that live in Kentucky and some don't like McConnell because he's not "conservative enough" whatever the hell that means and some don't like him because he's an idiot that care nothing about this country.
"The bus was carrying 48 people and an unknown number of roaches, according to Greyhound."
I'm surprised they actually listed it this way! LOL! Like do they even keep score of other types of passengers? No doubt they were upset that the roaches hadn't paid for their rides huh? I am guessing not the first time some passengers had sneaked on board without paying, and probably not the last. But just wait, those roaches are probably telling their country kin all about the fabulous excitement and how terrifying they were to those massive giants (humanoids),they sent screaming and running off the alien container they rode to get out of the city.
How cockroach legends are made! But they better watch out. I'm sure Greyhound will have wanted posters plastered and scattered everywhere! WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE! COACH-ROACHES!
So what's the big deal?
Roaches? That's no way to talk about New Yorker's trying to get home!
Or democrat gang-bangers?
Well, how disgusting, I would have freaked out, I hate any kind of bugs, but roaches? YUCK!!!
Just the thought makes me shudder. They refunded the fare but they need to pay for therapy, too. I can see some of these poor people waking up with nightmares and never wanting to get on public transportation again.
They should have stopped the bus in Chinatown and sold the roaches....just sayin
Last time I was on a Greyhound I smoked a few roaches- different decade, different roaches.
Enough is enough! I am tired of these mother @!$%#'n roaches on this mother @!$%#'n bus!
That was my thought exactly..good one john arthur.....
Hope no roaches were carried to the other bus or home with the passengers in their luggage or clothes, that is how you take tyhem home they are carried in, Roaches are terrible for sure..
the report is like the roaches were also passengers: "The bus was carrying 48 people and an unknown number of roaches" .. but the roaches didn't pay the bus fare.
At least they should get some kind of quantity discount.
Had the bus been coming from Colorado it would have been a different kind of roach. 420 friendly.
420 friendly, and part of a civil union, but not in possession of a 20-round magazine.
Atlantic City, New York City have always been roach and RAT infested. Its gets worse by the day.
roaches trying to get into New York ahead of the scurvy Occupiers.
A friend of mine took the buses in Tampa constantly and said one was infested with roaches too.
To: Bhatfield/KY......what a sad empty life you must have........
But he is safe and warm, fat and happy in his mommy's basement being kept calm by endless boxes of jelly donuts.
How many blacks ride the bus? How many blacks homes & apts are full of roaches? Need I say more?
I suppose you think other races like white and Asian don't have this problem.
No, dw11111, you've already painted yourself as a racist idiot. You can add another coat later, but it really isn't necessary.
;-)
DimWitt1111, Ignorance and stupidity are the norm for your ancient thinking.
Relax. They are just illegal aliens heading to a sanctuary city.
I am sure the bus isn't new so it had likely traveled that route for a long time. They escaped all at once? Hmmm, to me it sounds like some type of inside job.
Ew ew ew ew ew ew ew!!!!
When does the movie come out?
NYC-bound crouches? Maybe, just maybe, could it be possible that they will be subjected to New York Police Department’s (NYPD) Stop-and-Frisk approach on their way to Harlem to join the demonstrations going on against the NY police brutality or even treated worse? Like extermination? Or shoot them on the back maybe? Real news worthy by the corporate media!
Thankfully no pictures accompanied the story!
Musta been a backup bus sitting in the yard too long without cleaning.
That's what I thought. They weren't drawn in by that old line of "Leave the Driving to Us". My guess would be that something like old crumbs, dead rodents, and any other food sources attracted them, and being up inside the ceiling, wouldn't have been removed with normal cleaning. Maybe they're the last evacuations or refugees from Sandy.
