March may go out like a lamb, but it promises to be a lion for the next few days for a huge strip of the country.
A late-season winter storm is predicted to bring snow, ice and even blizzard conditions from the Northern Plains to the New England coast and as far south as the nation's capital.
Wednesday is the first day of spring, but try telling that to people in the affected areas.
The National Weather Service issued blizzard warnings for large parts of the Dakotas and Minnesota as winds gusted at 50 mph and snow started piling up late Sunday and early Monday.
Traffic could be snarled in urban centers, especially the Twin Cities, and things might not be much better in Chicago, where just a bit of snow is forecast but freezing rain threatens to bedevil Monday morning commuters.
The wintry mess will spread across the northern Great Lakes region and into the Northeast later Monday and into Tuesday, according to Weather.com.

Most of Wisconsin is under a winter weather advisory, while lake-effect snows are expected in western Michigan. Across the southern Great Lakes, including Cleveland and much of northern Ohio, as well as parts of western Pennsylvania, snow is expected to be followed by freezing rain throughout much of Monday, potentially causing traffic tie-ups throughout the region, according to NBCChicago.com said.
Much of the same is possible as far south as Washington, D.C. Its far western, northern and southern suburbs in Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia were under winter storm warnings and advisories through Monday evening.
Much of the heavily populated Northeast Corridor looks to escape the worst of the snow, but freezing rain and some snow could complicate travel in New York, NBCNewYork.com warned.
Boston lies just to the east of the weather service winter storm warning area, but much of New England doesn't look likely to be spared the storm.
Most of northern New England was under winter storm warning into Tuesday -- and through Wednesday for much of Maine -- with forecasters predicting up to 14 inches of snow and winds gusting at 25 to 30 mph from Western New York to the Maine coast.

I note that although the midsection of the country got blasted with snow and ice over the past 3-4 days, there was not a mention of it in the "national" news. But now, that it's headed for the wonderful, all-important New England, well get out the headline banners!

I remember being 16 (you know, back in the stoneage), waiting for the bus in September and suddenly finding ourselves in a snowstorm - that was way too early for any of us! Two hours later it was clear and sunny again. Talk about weird weather... We've also had snow in April for Easter on a few occassions.
It hasn't reached here yet, but it's on its way. I just hope the idiots from the last snowfall aren't around again; last time these two dimwits got into a fight (don't know why) and one threw the other through a store window. Nothing like having a drug and alcohol rehab in the area - fun!!

Hey Ripley and they didn't cancel school, how could that happen? Here in the once great state of NY, the teacher union is the best ground hog, weatherman the country has ever seen. The mere sight, sign, or smell of one even in Chicago they start beating the drum. Praying(I know most are god less liberals) they do it to al gore, or barry, to let it snow. Because when it does or even the thinest of threat of snow, they get another day off, and you the taxpayer. You get to shovel, walk, drive whatever to get to work, so you can make money to pay your school taxes.

Bought a rain barrel last year to water the garden. Water level never reached the drain hole. All I got were stunted plants and a high water bill.

I'm good on the winter fat thing tho---my weight crept up after I had an "oops" pregnancy at 42 so I hit the gym and I'm in better shape at 51 than I was when I graduated from high school---I have to be, so I can keep up with my kid LOL. I have to work at it tho, cuz I love food :-D the trail of destruction is mostly due to me being clumsy and dropping stuff all the time, although I did once throw a toaster oven at my ex's head. he ducked and it went sailing out the window *blushes*

The "Swallow" criteria is no joke, they are insect eating birds, and will not migrate back north until their instinct tells them when the weather will become warm enough to allow their food supply to become available, cold weather kills off those delicious little bugs. Swallows do a pretty good job on mosquitos, we have a pond behind our house, and I tell my wife when we see the Swallows come back, it's safe to plant the flowers. This has been true for the 15 years we have lived here, the Swallows have never failed us.
Carol, Mary, IA, etc., when I was growing up, there would always be some obnoxious kid in the neighborhood who would harass others with insults and name calling, but I found if you ignored people like that, they eventually gave up and went away.

I just check my weather stick. Seriously, I don't know what kind of wood it's made out of, but if it's going to rain, it droops, if it's in between rain and sunshine, it sticks straight out, and if it's going to be sunny, it sticks almost straight up.
I know, some won't believe me, but it's true, My brother ordered some from back in the NE somewhere, and gave me one. I have had it mounted up the decking on the back porch. Just look at that, it tells you what the weather will be. Crazy, but it does work.

Why is every snow storm an impending disaster these days. It seems that as people have become less self reliant the more they fear the things they cannot control like the weather. The people in the small town I live in don't fear snow we know we can depend on our neighbors if any real problems occur. Also the snow is great for the farmers as it soaks into the ground as it melts and dose not runoff like heavy rain.
The media seems hell bent on creating news out of something that is not news. Must have been slow news day: No wars, no nuclear missiles no mass shootings and they scrape everything and anything into breaking news.
