Julio Acevedo, in an undated photo from New York police, could face life in prison if he's convicted.
A man arrested in connection with a car crash that killed a rabbinical college student, his pregnant wife and their baby in New York this month has been indicted on three counts of second-degree manslaughter, authorities announced Tuesday.
The man, Julio Acevedo, 44, previously was charged with leaving the scene of an accident without reporting it. A Kings County grand jury added the manslaughter charges for the deaths of Nachman and Raizy Glauber, both 21, and their baby boy, who was delivered after the accident by cesarean section, but died the next day. The mother was seven months pregnant.
Acevedo is accused of driving the BMW that speeded down a Brooklyn street at 69 mph — more than twice the speed limit — early March 3 and crashing into a livery cab carrying the Glaubers, who were on their way to a hospital. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
The crash crumpled the cab and threw Raizy Glauber from the wreck. The engine ended up in the back seat. The driver of the livery cab was knocked unconscious but wasn't seriously hurt.
Acevedo served a prison term in the 1990s for manslaughter after he was convicted of shooting Kelvin Martin, a Brooklyn criminal whose moniker "50 Cent" was the inspiration for rapper Curtis Jackson's stage name.
How he came to possess the BMW is under investigation, NBC News reported this month. The owner of the car was arrested on insurance fraud charges related to the vehicle, but that case has been deferred.
Acevedo's attorney, Kathleen Julian, told the New York Post: "I fully expected him to be indicted."

Thoughts and Condolences to the friends and family of the three victims.
This clown deserves whatever he gets!
Save us all the time and money, just hang this POS........
Oh Dude..... You messed up beyond bad. Good luck with that. Ouch
As expensive as it is for the taxpayer, it's pretty clear this guy needs to be taken out of society for good. Not so much for punishment -- he looks like he's been punished plenty by life -- but for the safety of the rest of us.
Thugs will be Thugs. Enjoy prison @!$%#.
What a difference a comma makes, but it works either way!
Don't worry everybody, those tragic deaths were just all part of God's plan. (rolls eyes)
I'm sure the victims appreciate you exploiting their death to attack their faith.
I was attacking all faiths, not just theirs, and by the way a lot of good their faith did for them...
Pathetic guy. Deserves life.
Here is exactly the problem with our society. Despicable humans. People with hatred, bigotry, no common sense and absolutely have no idea of the difference between right and wrong. Folks saying guns are the problem. It's people like this, ex cons, gang members, criminal element, mental cases or folks committing crimes just because they can. In this case this individual was in prison for manslaughter, let out among us all only to kill 3 others because he could, because he did not give a damn. Guess what, did he learn from the Past? No way. Ask yourself how safe are you? 2.5 million incarcerated in jail/prison another 7.5 million on parole. Hundreds of thousands former criminals or ones that have not been caught and most have guns no matter the laws you want to put on the books. 508 murders in Chicago last year alone. Detroit a cesspool of crime and corruption (see former mayor). Sorry but People are the problem, period. Car, gun, knife, poison, hammer, rock or you name it is just a tool for others to use for whatever their inane ideas for crime. Throw the book at this imbecile and keep him locked up along with the rest.
Lock the psychopath in a prison cell for life and throw away the keys, really . . .
Really! :-o
I doubt that Mr. Acevedo put any thought into his actions (hence the manslaughter charge). He was just out for a joy ride without any sense of personal responsibility -- similar to behavior one would expect of a teenager, although he clearly should be past that by now. His needs outweighed everyone else's and he was more important...typical self indulgence of the current culture.
Whether it is a street thug, a politician, or a banker, self gratification seems to come before community in all things.
I cannot seem to come up with the right mix of words to describe what I think of this guy let alone what I'd like to do to him and others like him, both male and female.
Many open sores and cuts and salt is a good start though without any medical treatment except to add more salt and keep the wounds open for eternity. Hm, think I'm starting to get the hang of it now...
Add in the fact that this guy has killed before and he was let out to be among us all and this is how his kind repays us, sicking.
RIP to the victims.
He should have gotten the full treatment, got away once on a manslaughter and
here he is again. what did he learn from his previous? Not a thing. I at least hope he is
in this time for life. We need our laws changed. Manslaughter 1 time only 2 time, murder.
This person must have been Horribly full of anger to have done such a foolish thing as drive at such a speed not caring or knowing what would happen to whom. He will have to pay the penalty whether physically or mentally. and he must. God have mercy on his soul.
