SAN DIEGO -- Two people riding in a just-purchased Lamborghini took off after the sports car crashed into a wall.

The collision happened at La Jolla Village Drive and La Jolla Scenic Drive north of San Diego at 11:45 p.m. Monday (2:45 a.m. ET Tuesday).

The Lamborghini, still with dealer plates from Lamborghini Newport Beach, was left in the middle of the street, according to San Diego police.

The driver and passenger fled the scene, according to investigators.

One witness told investigators two people were seen leaving the car.

One was described as a blonde woman believed to be in her 50s wearing a black hoodie. A man who was shorter than the woman was spotted as well, officers said.

The Lamborghini was a 2008 model.

Why don't they just go to the dealer and get the name of the owner? This is real news.

mary,

That's standard procedure however, when you buy a vehicle, tax & tags means motor vehicle will already have the identity of the owner considering the dealer tags are temporary and they're working on the permanent plates.

If the dealer gave up the name he wont get anymore drug money from car sales

Dave, excellent point, your average working class couple usually don't don't have the pocket change for a Lamborghini.

I guess some people just can't handle a car like that. Maybe they should look for Lance Briggs, seems he had a similar experience on the Kennedy Expressway one night, smashed his Lamborghini, took off and left it there, claimed it was stolen, then admitted later that it wasn't, that he did it, but was embarassed and so left the scene, didn't mention anything about having alcohol beforehand...hmmmmm....but of course he is a football start, so he can do that.

Dave, it's called a subpoena - it takes about a half hour to get one.

Dave, isn't it great to have Mr. Perfect Stanley Straightarrow keep you informed. I saw the humor in your first post, but apparently not everyone else did.

    Roadhouse...

True, but you've apparently never been to La Jolla. There isn't a working class family that could afford to live there. Average property value when I lived there was $1.5 million. It's paradise, in paradise. That's why Mitt bought a place there. It's just the Jewel!

It is obvious they had more to gain by fleeing the scene. So many creative guesses. Mine: Identity Theft. They could have bought the car with a stolen ID to soon transfer to another illegal; and so on, and so on......

      #2.7 - Wed Mar 20, 2013 12:44 PM EDT

@gridlock {sigh} REALLY??? Yeah, right. As if a LAMBORGHINI dealership is going to sell a car that cost half a million dollars (that's USED, mind you) to ILLEGALS. Those dealerships won't even speak to the average person, much less an illegal, "stolen identity" or not. They won't even give you a brochure if you're not a millionnaire, and they VERIFY your information to make very, very certain before you even TOUCH their cars, much less drive one, much, much less sell you one. No stolen ID would stand up to the scrutiny of these people. Obviously you've never purchased a motor vehicle before, or you would know how ridiculous your "creative" guess is. You couldn't get a KIA off the lot with fake or stolen ID, much less a Lambo or any other exotic car. It's pathetic how tiny little minds can turn an article about a car crash into something political - so much easier to just blame "liberals," "illegals," and Obama for all your problems in life instead of taking a little responsibility to do something about it yourself. Sheesh!

If you can't drive, certainly don't try to drive something with a V12 with almost 900 hp. I think that's what he was trying to say. If you have ever driven an exotic it's not exactly like driving a Chevy Malibu. You might be able to afford such a car but driving it is a whole different deal. Hardly the first time this has happened.

Everyone who owns an intact Countach just saw the value go up slightly. Because this one will never hold full value again. That's a major Carfax ding right there.

900 BHP? No, more like 500-600 range, maybe. Still, it was evidently way too much car for someone with way more $$$ than sense.

I'm telling you, the guy let his trophy wife take it out for a spin, and she parked it in a wall. They had to leave the scene bc he was waaaay too embarrassed to admit he let her drive his new baby. Or they were down at the shack getting loaded and he made her drive home. Oops!

            #4.4 - Wed Mar 20, 2013 10:21 AM EDT

Nahh, he can drive a "regular" car its the type/speed/handling of these exotic cars which make it different from the usual cars we regular people drive, I once heard that there is a special class/course offered so that this type of accident is less likely to occurr. This seems like it probably didnt have more than a few hours at max that they left the dealership??? This is the 2nd crash of a Lambo & or a Ferrari down here in San Diego this year!!!Poor Lambo!!!

If you leave the scene of an accident, charges can still be filed against you.

I wonder if the reporters were correct in it being newly purchased and if instead, it was taken under false pretenses...or outright stolen. But maybe it was purchased by people with cash and no sense...only in America can that happen.

                  In_the_middle,

True, but if they're stupid enough to carry drugs in a lamborghini (a car that will get the attention of every police officer for miles around), they will eventually mess up again and will be caught.

It was probably just out for a test drive and not even purchased yet. When you purchase a new vehicle, the price of title, plates, insurance and prep is added to the final charge. The dealer will notify your insurance company to add the car, get new plates and title through the auto bureau and when you drive the car off the lot, everything is done for you. The dealer plates are used for only test driving cars.

Officers told news photographer Paul Anderegg that they found paperwork in the car showing it was purchased for almost $220,000 just hours before the crash. Police said they were staking out an address listed on the paperwork in hopes of finding the driver.

Just Announced! Pelosi, Feinstein & Biden are pushing for tougher driving laws. They'll be limiting the horsepower of the vehicle, time you can drive and amount of fuel you can use in a month.

Winkler, at least we got all the way down here before some dipstick went predictably political.

Roadhouse, they already did it in the first thread. And yes, Realism was involved there too.

Just trying to poke fun, get over it.

I've driven and raced theses types of cars. Most of the guys that buy these things can't even begin to imagine what focus it takes to drive one.

The guy was racing home to get l@1d after showing his affection for his girl... just a thought.

BTW, I'm a 5% so go ... off. Made my money working my butt off and run solid businesses in a state that is anti-business. Pay all of our staff well and treat them with respect.

Working on buying a Maserati, that way I can drive around your Prius and Accords much faster!
