An Ohio jury convicts a man accused of luring job seekers to a remote farm where they were robbed and killed. WKYC's Sara Shookman reports.
Begging to have jurors spare her son's life, the mother of a triple killer who lured his victims with Craigslist job offers testified Wednesday that he had a troubled childhood and suffered physical and sexual abuse.
"I love Richard with all my heart," a teary-eyed Carol Beasley testified during the sentencing phase of the trial of her son, 53-year-old Richard Beasley. He was convicted last week of killing three men and wounding a fourth, all lured with offers of farmhand jobs in southeast Ohio in 2011.
But despite the emotional plea, the jury on Wednesday evening recommended the death penalty for Beasely. Other options were life in prison without the chance of parole or life with a chance for parole after 25 or 30 years.
Judge Lynne Callahan, who has final say in Beasley's fate, said on Wednesday she will sentence him on March 26.
Beasley's co-defendant, then 16 years old, is too young to face the death penalty. Brogan Rafferty was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole on his conviction last year.
In an opening statement at the sentencing part on Wednesday, prosecutor Jonathan Baumoel said the "enormous" weight of Beasley's crimes should be considered in deciding on life or death.
The defense responded by calling witnesses to portray Beasley sympathetically. As his mother testified, Beasley slumped forward, his chin on his chest and his right hand covering his eyes.
She described a difficult childhood for her son, with a verbally and physically abusive stepfather whom Carol Beasley characterized as a mean drunk.
She testified that she learned only within the past year that her son had been sexually abused by neighborhood youngsters when he was a boy. She had known that the boys had forced him to remove his pants in a large drainage pipe but hadn't known about the abuse at the time, she said.

Carol Beasley, mother of convicted murderer Richard Beasley, leaves the Summit County Courthouse on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, in Akron, Ohio. Richard Beasley was found guilty with aggravated murder in the killing two men from Ohio and one from Norfolk, Va. by luring them with Craigslist job offers.
"I always felt there was much more than he told me," she testified. Her son apparently kept the abuse secret out of fear he would be held responsible for it, the mother said.
Her first husband neglected Richard and her, Carol Beasley testified, and her second husband broke dishes and a window while drinking and whipped Richard as a toddler.
"Richard was very mistreated by him," she testified.
Carol Beasley testified that Richard and the couple's own two daughters would be put to bed early and sometimes were sent to relatives for the weekend to avoid contact with the father.
"Everybody was afraid when he came home," she said.
The defense also called a psychologist, John Fabian, who testified that Beasley suffers from depression, alcohol abuse, low self-esteem and a feeling of isolation, all possible results of a troubled, abusive childhood.
"These are all potential mitigating factors" in favor of leniency, Fabian testified.
Fabian said Beasley's issues should be considered in multi-generational terms involving him and his family life. "This is all his personality development," he said.
One of Beasley's victims was killed near Akron, and the others were shot at a southeast Ohio farm during bogus job interviews.
The slain men were Ralph Geiger, 56, of Akron; David Pauley, 51, of Norfolk, Va.; and Timothy Kern, 47, of Massillon.
The survivor, Scott Davis, testified that he heard the click of a gun as he walked in front of Beasley at the reputed job site. Davis, who was shot in an arm, knocked the weapon aside, fled into the woods and tipped police.
Beasley, who returned to Ohio from Texas in 2004 after serving several years in prison on a burglary conviction, testified that he met with Davis and Davis had pulled a gun in retaliation for Beasley serving as a police informant.

Request denied. Execute.
If anyone's looking for a textbook example of appropriate capital punishment, this has to be it. All that stuff about childhood abuse has nothing at all to do with how dead this POS's victims are. Plus, there's no question that he did it. You will never hear about the Innocence Project finding some long-lost DNA evidence that exonerates him. At 53, he's surely old enough to know right from wrong and take responsibility for his actions. Also, I'd like Mommy to explain to me what purpose would be served by warehousing this creep for 30 years? He's never gonna leave prison, except in a bag, one way or the other.
If the mother allowed him to live such an abused childhood, then convict the mother as accessory to murder. It's time that our citizens in our country start taking some personal responsibility for their actions. Sorry libtards, but there are winners and losers in life, and that's just the way it is.
Yes, I agree. "The girls were sent away? This is an abusive mother if her words are true. Why was this monster meeting men in the woods anyway?
He killed three people, three separate times. Fu(k her and her son.
Sorry...but the boy must pay.
Realist .... I'm one of those libtards and I'm all for capital punishment ... so, don't assume all liberals are against the death penalty.
And the men Beasley killed - what was their defense?
No excuse - none for him
sorry mom... it appears the choices you made in your life were not chosen wisely with regard to your sons father and his stepfather. life is about choices, and in your case you did choose unwisely. no doubt there is probably a streak of meanness within you, also.
I bet she does love him and I feel for her on that, however those that he murdered were loved as well. Each victim had a family, each victim came to him with hat in hand to try to find a job and he cruelly murdered them. For that I have no pity. He chose to take their lives away and he needs to be punished accordingly, regardless of how she says his childhood was. He was a grown man, he made grown up decisions and he should be removed from society permanently.
I'm center-left, and I say No to her request. Eye for an Eye,
No big mystery which you are.
I agree, but disagree is some aspects. All of you're perspectives are very simple minded! Physical and Sexual Abuse can have severe damaging affects on a person. That is a reason that we take this much more serious now than in the past and why people like Sandusky have to be held accountable for the lives they completely distruct! Also, it is very possible that the mother may not have known at the time that these things were going on...I am not sure either way, but would certainly not jump to any conclussions on that. As a parent, I would have to think that having a child that commits murder or any severe crime would be in some ways worse than the victim! That is still her child and I can appreciate that she loves her child and will see the situation in a different perspective. I do feel that he should still be held accountable for his actions...
Heinous Anus-5126027 what an incredible dork you are. Actuqlly quite a number of you are. This is of course what you were all brought up to be,... ignorant.
We all make choices in life that sometimes lead to unexpected or negative results. This mother clearly had issues picking men to be in hers and her children's lives. The abuse and suffering that she and her children suffered is a tragic result of her poor choices. Unfortunately Richard couldn't handle his past in a healthy way, can't say that's uncommon, and three lives were ended and countless others affected.
I feel sympathy for all victims in this tragic situation, Richard and his mother included. She is a lost and deeply saddened woman not wanting to say goodbye to her son. She does not deserve the cruel words most of you seem so quick to say.
Not only the death penalty, broadcast that scum dying on the internet, I'd love to watch a sadistic a** h*** drop. There is no excuse, I don't care about how abused he was as a child, the stepfather never killed him, so he probably should have just beat them instead of killing them if the stepfather influenced him that much. They say that pedophiles often were abused as children...does that change the fact that those kids lives are messed up forever, does that make it any less offensive or punishable? My answer...absolutley NOT. If they lock up the child abusers, then this guy definately deserves death. An Eye for an Eye Momma, sorry your son ended up being a disturbed and sadistic individual, but maybe you should have thought of the repercussions, while you were probably cowering in the corner while he was being beaten. Obviously "loving him with all your heart" doesn't include protecting him from situations where it also threatens your own safety.
I am so tired of the "Oh, he had a abusive life! He was tramatized as a young kid! Or, he was just turning his life around!" Stop it!!!! And drop the mentally insane excuse for not puttin' the shot in the arm! ANYONE who murders another unless in self defense should be put to death!! It is a PENALTY!! You need to pay up, it's called justice!! Why keep on overcrowding the prisons with killers who just might escape, kill again when when all it takes is that shot? And stop all the litigations, THAT is what costs the most money! NOT the shot!
OH for f's sake. Kill the guy. Many people are brought up in abusive situations. Some even more horrible than this guy apparently faced. They don't turn out to be whack job psychopaths who kill people for sh*ts and giggles.
Single Mom's looking for another husband take note- this is the end result of poor mate selection criteria on the part of the mother. I realize at the time it was (and still is) difficult to find single men that fit the bill and who want to be a step father, but they are out there.
I was a similar product of poor selection at around the same time period, fortunately my issues were not near what this guy's are. But there have been many difficulties in life that stem from those years.
A child is not responsible for being abused but that child as an adult is responsible for how they let that past affect their lives. It is a very sad truth that many never reach that point because they never understand that. But once they've taken lives it's too late.
Once a bear has tasted human flesh, it has to be put down.
I agree, My mother beat me from the time I was 7 until she kicked me out at 14 and I have never thought of luring people in and killing them or just hurting and killing people period, Dont let this guy suck up tax payers money for decades, Execute him the day he is found guilty, The same should have happened for his helpers even the 16 year old, he knew better also. The tax payers could be saved billions if the government would just execute the violent criminals who murder, rape and pray on children and stop locking up people for nonsence crimes like getting caught with a marijauna joint. I understand locking up people for stealing and breaking into places, drunk driving without injury to others, but alot of these criminals should be put to hard labor working for the state they committed the offence in, make them pay that way not give them a paid vacation where they have nothing to do but eat, workout and visit with friends.
Actually staying in prison the rest of your life is probably more punishment than a quick and painless death-but either way, yes in some cases the death penalty is appropriate but we cannot put just anyone to death for murders they are convicted of.....too many innocent people in prison . In this case it sounds like there is abosolutley no question so this may be one of those cases the death penalty is appropriate. Just this past week alone 2 men were released from prisons after serving decades for crimes we now find out they did NOT commit. Sure glad they didn't pull the plug on them.
The most outrageous kind of pre meditated murder....... should receive the most outrageous kind of execution.... one that is slow and painful.......
It's apparent that the mother has been feeling guilty, and so she wants to ease her guilt by pleading for this monster of a son. Too little too late! Gacy had problems, as well as other serial killers, but that doesn't make them any less of a threat to society. She should have done something about it when it was happening, instead of pleading with society to spare him now.
In cases like this where there is no doubt about who committed the crime I feel the death penalty is justified and should be carried out swiftly without years of appeals and millions of wasted taxpayer dollars. I know several people who were severely abused as children who did not grow up to be abusers. My ex is one of them. Despite his being beaten to within an inch of his life throughout his childhood I never feared him. He never raised a hand to me or our child. It is unfortunate when someone is abused but they have the power to overcome it. Using it as an excuse to harm others is a cop out in my opinion.
No, no mercy for that murderer. An untold number of people are raised in abusive homes and they don't grow up to murder people. If he is that defective then he should be put down. No way should we pay for the rest of his worthless life.
this man had a troubled life.
HE is the victum, allthough others have suffered, the real victum is the murder.
Those who have brutely lost loved one's should just move on, you can not change the past, but you can help the future of this hurt human being, who had a troubled abused life.
Please help him...
The only mercy he should be shown is a semi quick death, that is going too easy on him though.
for all of the suffering and death that he caused, he should be shown mercy ?
I don't think so
My friends, all I can say is do not be too eager to deal out death and judgement. Even the very wise can not see all ends. We can not see his past or his future. Besides, isn't this man a mirror for the cruel aspect of our society? We should be forgiving him and ourselves at the same time. That way everyone is healed from this. We are all connected and we are all one. So as we forgive him, we also forgive ourselves.
Hey r2den2, do you know what psycho-babbel is?
Rob, the questions goes for you too.
Too bad he's not in Texas or Florida. He'd be dead a lot sooner. RIH you POS.
The 3-Syringe cocktail is waiting for this miscreant.
If what momma says is true, it gives more credence to the argument that our mental health system is not only a shambles, it's criminal. The problem is, how do we fix it?
The Natitional Institute of Mental Health claims there are about 57.5 MILLION Americans, 18 years or older, that suffer from diagnosable mental disorders. This is 26.2% of Americans. When we have more than 1 out of 4 Americans with mental health problems the problem is multifactorial.
First, why are more than 26% of American's mentally unstable? Why, in the largest most prosperous economy in history, are there so many dysfunctional people? What creates this level of mental illness? This is a problem of epic proportions, and some analysis is necessary.
Next, how do we identify 57.7 MILLION affected individuals? Do we all have to be mentally evaluated? This is a titanic undertaking. How many new psychiatrists/psychologists will be needed for this massive undertaking. This would take decades and cost hundreds of billions of dollars. This also leads to how often do we re-evaluate every single American? Is it yearly, every 5 years, every 10 years? What happens if someone is given clearance as mentally stable and then is bullied, harassed at work, overlooked for a promotion and snaps 11 months after being certified as stable?
Finally, if someone is found to be mentally stable and then goes out and causes a tragedy like Newtown or Aurora, who is responsible? The shooter? The psychiatrist/psychologist? The gun dealer? The government (even though they're never responsible)?
As much as background checks are a cavalier idea, as far as identifying mental health problems, we're more likely to see our Congress pass a reasonable, effective budget first.
Well - mom - it's your fault he suffered from verbal and physical abuse from his father - you could have protected him. But hey! Lots of people go thru physical and verbal abuse from their parent/s. most don't premeditate murder. And pretty sure the moms and dads of his victims loved their kids dearly, also! Death penalty sounds about right to me!.
Death it is. The Jury Recommended the Death Penalty.
Saneg, I also believe the death penalty is inappropriate in the majority of cases simply because I would never sentence a person to death based entirely on forensic evidence or hearsay. However, it's cases such as this that I would not have trouble sentencing him as well as the 16 year old "at the time of the murders", that helped him, to death. Hell, even with a death sentence, this monster will never see the sentence carried out. He will die in prison waiting on appeals.
Not a partisan issue. Do you really wonder why your party is dying?
You're such an ass, as usual. I guess you think the father/stepfather bear no responsibility in this matter. This poor woman made some very bad choices in the past and has lived her life in hell.
Well Mom, should have done a better job in raising this swine. Kill him and kill him fast. I will provide the .357 magnum gun and bullet for this piece of human garbage.
Ol_Doc
On the contrary, it is very much a partisan issue.
You Liberals/Progressives blame society for an individual’s crimes, Conservatives blame the individual.
Personal responsibility is rejected by Liberals/Progressives while Conservatives embrace it and promote it. Because of your “compassion” for miscreants such as these people, other murderers, rapists and mass killers, society is burdened with massive costs to try and rehabilitate or care for them.
Nobody wants to condemn a person to death, but when these horrific crimes are left unpunished severely, there is no disincentive for criminals. The only people who have the right to let this monster live are the victims.
Mommy should be in prison too, since she has admitted before a judge that she knowingly allowed someone abuse her child.
somebody has to put out the fire and its about time we started thinking about that....we didn't start the fire but we will definitely put it out by taking the POS out ASAP
The proper reply by Carol Beasley would have been: "I played a part in the environment that turned my son into a waste of skin, and since I cannot be tried for being a worthless parent, please take pity on him and do a kindness, to him and society. And put him out of our misery. Let him pay now, as I will pay later."
How about a little remorse for the victims, beotch.
I hope some resources can be made available to offer this very twisted man some therapy, if, for no other reason than to attempt to understand the mind of a very disturbed person. Maybe he can somehow make a positive contribution to society in this way.
Enneagram1
Funny, I don't think I would worry about studying him, we'll make more.
John, The NRA would have us contribute more dollars to mental illness instead of more gun laws. At least we could show them an effort is being made.
I agree, but the problem is that funding for mental illness will simply be drugs rather than going after the cause that could change things decades from now. I don't think mental illnesses just happen due to genes. It is either environmental or drugs ingested by the mother or child that cause it. And they have no intention of dealing with either.
You see jim, you make my point for me. You stereotype everyone based on some a division you can distance yourself from (ie, political affiliation, race, gender, sexual orientation, etc) then you point your finger and accuse them of all being the same...less than. This is exactly why your party is dying. Your party just came out with the “Growth and Opportunity Project”. Here's a quote:
"Democrats tend to talk about people, Republicans tend to talk about policy. Our ideas can sound distant and removed from people’s lives. Instead of connecting with voters’ concerns, we too often sound like bookkeepers. We need to do a better job connecting people to our policies."
"We should speak out when a company liquidates itself and its executives receive bonuses but rank-and-file workers are left unemployed. We should speak out when CEOs receive tens of millions of dollars in retirement packages but middle-class workers have not had a meaningful raise in years.
You see; even when conservatives try desperately to change they just can't get their heads around it. Even now, with the realization that demographics will kill your party, all your leadership can do is try and change the language.
I really don't like the idea of a one party system, but I fear the necessary change is simply not in your DNA. All that's left is to watch to see who replaces the GOP in the not too distant future.
This mother can't be serious?
Sorry moms...he's not a little boy anymore. The bastard must die!....hopefully.
Oh Please! His mother can stop the he was abused crap. There are millions of people who suffered abuse who have not decided to be a killer. During the times I grew up in parents punished you, and by today's standards it would be considered abuse. They would be right, but people didn't use it to excuse whatever wrong they did.
My brother once told my parents if child abuse laws were around when we were kids, they'd be on death row. He was absolutely right, so can the excuses mom, and let him man up!
Abuse or no abuse, he is a danger to society and must go.
If the 16 y/o got life without parole, then Beasley should definitely get the death penalty. Three killings and one attempted killing after already serving time in TX for burglary? Three strikes and you're out should prevail here, with "out all the way" the sentencing. Why should the taxpayers have to support his imprisonment for even one more day. It is bad enough that we would have to pay for the minor's incarceration for many decades. Our justice system needs to go back to some of the OT laws maybe...like "an eye for an eye." You take a life, you lose yours. You steal, you lose a hand the first time...steal again and you lose the other one, etc.
The fact that he was supposedly abused as a child is no excuse for someone his age to do this kind of thing. He should have had treatment for that depression et al a long time ago.
Which Over Time laws are you talking about?
So, you advocate adopting Sharia law? Personally I rather prefer our system of justice.
hdrider, It's Old Testament law, as in from the Bible. The "eye for an eye" thing is absolutely ridiculous to even think of incorporating into today’s' society. Everyone steals something at one time or another. Kids steal at stores all the time and usually it's just an accident. What about forgetting you are even carrying something while walking out of the store? Technically you stole it. Should we cut off your hand?
Even if we took these things into account and said only people who meant to steal should have their hand removed, this would not be a good option. It would make way too many people unable to contribute to society. And I may be mistaken in this but I believe the Old Testament also said that adulterers are to be stoned to death. Is that really a viable option in society today? I think not.
What would really be appropriate is a more modernized punishment system other than locking people up in a hotel for a few years. You can work in prison (yes, a very low wage but still money); you get 3 meals a day, a place to sleep, great medical “insurance”, time to “play” outside, etc. Life in prison is much better than some FREE people’s lives outside. Is that right?
So bazaar, and i think i must've missed the "co-defendant" part, who was that person, and what did he 'do' ?
And what did you buy at your bazaar?
Wanted for hire. Farmworker, will fertilize.
Fugg him, death sentence to be carried out.
The mother of this murder should have also claimed that, just like Jodi Arias, her son has PTSD. Maybe that could convince the jury to spare his lowlife.
This guy made choices. He chose to kill someone; this was textbook, pre-meditated murder. Now he gets to suffer the consequences. To paraphrase the Queen of Hearts, "Off with his head!"
no one was there to plead for the victims.
Premeditated murder by luring his victim with the promise of a job....death
Richard's mother is upset? How about the relatives of the victims do you think they are upset?
Get it over with and move on. Bye bye Richard.
Some predators may be born while others are made.
Can those made into vicious killers be unmade? Are those suspected of being genetically or chemically predisposed to being killers without conscience be trained to not kill?
Scientists have uncovered new evidence using MRI scans that show a section of some killers brains that are noticeably darker than normal healthy adults. They have just began to research this phenomenon.
Will this new knowledge be used to help or hurt?
Would that be the frontal lobe? It lights up when the person prays. My MRI tech asked me not to pray during the MRI because it was generating too much light for the screen to handle. It goes dark in people who never pray. There's really no way to fix that, a relationship with God is personal and can't be forced on anyone. The further from God a person gets, the more predatory they are. Forcing God on someone, would drive them so far from God that they'd be sure to be a predator.
Our liberal justice system will use evidence like this research to ask for mercy for convicted killers since the crime may be a result of a brain disorder. At the very least they will ask the courts not to execute people for their crimes. On the other hand, some people may be diagnosed as dangerous and be imprisoned as a potential threat to society after having a simple brain scan for something totally unrelated to a crime.
Careful!!!
Andyare you joshing me? LOL. Wow I just googled your remark and found all kinds of interesting articles. Thank you. I do think there is such a thing as God's light and it does reveal a beauty and peace that has an unearthly quality to it. Interestingly, many people who experience this light is within the context of nature's beauty.
I would agree that oppressive tactics favored by many people who profess to be religious can push people away from God. Even in spite of my horrifying experiences with organized religion they still could not kill my love for God's light and Christ's message of peace. Unfortunately, Christian thumpers have caused much damage and the Muslims are also driving home this ugly destructive force of violence and religion. They are driving people from God and the peace and love that is there.
The area of the brain this dark patch is in the central part of the brain and studies reveal it is almost always shows up in hardened criminals who commit violent crimes.
Thanks again your friend FFF P.S. I said a little prayer for you.
Terry, I would agree that scientific knowledge is problematic and has been sorely misused. Science should always have careful monitoring and an independent ethical committee to oversee its implementation. Problem is the human species can't even come together on the subject of what is ethical. We are in serious trouble.
I was also abused as a child, as a teenager, and when I was drafted for Vietnam, in state prisons for Marijuana possession, and a military federal prison (USDB) for being a war protestor. Ironically I was punished for being peaceful and not wanting to kill anyone. You could say I made some wrong decisions according to the state and the military authorities, which led to my confusion, frustration, and anger towards some people, and society in general, but I kept in all in because I was afraid, ashamed, felt what happened to me was my fault, and if I told people or my so-called peers, I would be stereotyped with PTSD, made fun of, banished as a pariah, and a potential predator or killer. But my music became my best friend, and therapist, and despite what happened to me, I never killed anyone because I never wanted to kill anyone legally in Vietnam, and definitely not want to premeditatively wreak vengeance on innocent fellow citizens who perhaps had nothing to do with the abuses committed against me. Abstractly physical or sexual abuse is no excuse to take it out on others just trying to make a living, and destroying their friends and relatives emotional lives. Most of you clamor for his death, and even the distraught mother's death. Obviously whether Richard was born with mind or brain chemical imbalance or over time flipped out because of abuse, and of course the worst kind sexual abuse; he may not be as strong as I or the rest of us to overcome the sometimes tragedies that occur in our lives. Mr Beasley is blamed for not seeking help or counseling, I too never told anyone or sought counseling, because the two greatest obstacles fear and shame, caused me to withdraw, and become introverted. At 65 I am finally talking to people and counselors, dealing with my mental disorders, but still always learning about myself. Richard is not me or like any of you, he had no music ability or musician friends, or even no friends, because that 16 year old was no friend, true friends don't murder or help murder for a friend. My mother disagreed with me on several issues, and we many times failed to communicate, but she took me in her home to help me deal with the stress of a performing struggling electric violin player, and later in her life, believed in me, supported me, and above all truly loved me. Richard had a mom dealing with her own problems, incompetent, and needed counseling herself, incapable of loving him like she displayed in the court room. I sympathize and understand how you people feel, because he could have Craiglist one of you or your loved ones. Also perhaps some of you or none of you have experienced that dark world of physical, and sexual abuse, and have no empirical knowledge of how it feels or affects your life. These types of violent incidents and random school, and public shootings, seemed to be happening more frequently in such a great and prosperous nation like ours, and its very sad, perplexing, incites anger, and vengeance in many of us. Murder is a brutal and horrific act, whether committed by a disabled person, insane person, because of anger, or vengeance, in self defense, in modern warfare (legalized murder for profit) killing a fetus, impaired driving accidents, and other accidents, suicide, and assisted suicide, genocide(human extinction warfare), collateral damage (warfare), vigilante and state murder (capital punishment), and religious murder (an eye for an eye), although I am an agnostic but lean towards atheism, the New Testament says "Thou shall not kill," "blessed are the peacemakers," "forgive your enemies or those who hurt you," and my favorite "He without sin or fault cast the first stone." Peace and Love to all of you. And have a great day The Fiddler
Rock on Fiddler. That was an absolutely beautiful piece of writing. We need more men like you to speak out for the next generation of battered and abused boys.
Glad you had music to soothe your tormented soul. My thing was sculpture. My icon is of a thirty year old piece called "Sanctuary of the Abused Child." I hope to make it on a large scale as a permanent reminder of child abuse.
All the more reason to quit cutting the arts out of public schools.
It was the pot. Too bad richard didn't have any to help him fix his issues.
Why do folks want to waste tax payers dollars with all the appeals that will drag on for 20 years or more. He is more likely to die of old age after we have spent untold hundreds of thousands of dollars for what? It costs far more to execute than life without parole.
That's a fact. Besides, the victims won't return if he's executed and all these people who are so concerned about victims will just create more (victims--the condemned's family, friends ect). To execute would not be justice but revenge for many who are on here posting with no skin in the game.
To keep a serial killer like this one would cost the taxpayers approximately 50,000 dollars a year. Unless we can offer a solution to cure this man (which currently we have no cure) it seems inhumane to keep him caged in a small room with only one hour per day alone in an exercise yard for the rest of his life. I suppose his mother would visit him. I do support the death penalty for hard drug dealers selling to children for human traffickers of children or sex slaves and for vicious violent crimes involving rape or murder. However, each case has to be reviewed on an individual case. I don't agree that we have to spend years to reach a final decision. That is nothing more than funding the pockets of trial lawyers and the govt employees to do this job. Unless we have a cure or can afford to keep these killers in maximum security facilities then we have to face the unpleasant option of lethal injection.
....SPARE HIM.... his mother cries out?????...WHAT ABOUT THE VICTIMS !!!!??? Were they spared....??? Please...im so tired of hearing AFTER THE FACT....how " abused " some plp claim
they had in their younger life. I had it rough too...but i had enough sense not to go out and harm people or intentionally trick them with a fake job offer.....PLEASE !!!! I;ll buy the rope to hang him.....
So basically what you are saying is that because lawyers are greedy pigs with no interest in justice or public safety we should not try to apply justice. Perhaps we should remove the greedy lawyer pigs from the equation after conviction by a jury of his peers & go directly to the justice.
I'm not really in favor of the death penalty. But if you have provision for it in the law, then this is exactly the person who deserves it.
His pleading mother should have shown her love when he was child, by protecting him from abuse, and teaching him right from wrong. Too late to cry now.
My thoughts exactly!! She knew what was happening in her house with both of these men, and neglected to protect him. Where was she then??
I suffered crap like that growing up and I never killed anybody over it. I'm thankful for good role models later in life and some therapists that helped me with anger management. I say, too bad mama... he crossed the line. What do the families of the people he killed say?
Indeed, it's like insulting all victims of physical, sexual, etc. abuse. There are probably a lot of people who have been abused growing up and haven't broken the law or committed violent acts. But, we are supposed to 'excuse' the behavior of someone who does?
Insulting is right. I was badly abused and for this mother to blame the abuse for her sons heinous acts is an insult to all survivors of child abuse survivors who have struggled and achieved decent law abiding lives. Yuor past is no excuse for bad behavior at his age.
In response to Checkmate's post, check out Dave Pelzer's story in a book titled, A Child Called "It." He went through unspeakable, despicable abuse. Yet as an adult today, he has never broken the law or committed any violent acts.
good points
amomofour,I read Mr. Pelzer's book.It made me physically ill to think that a person's father,a fireman to boot, would ignore his mothers abuse.
"...Her first husband neglected Richard and her, Carol Beasley testified, and her second husband broke dishes and a window while drinking and whipped Richard as a toddler. "Richard was very mistreated by him," she testified. ...
Well mom, there are millions of men and women in this country who experienced with their parents worse than did your son your son did his father and step-father, but who didn't turn out to becoming criminals and murderers. Your son is a 53 year-old man who made choices, including murdering those people. He MUST therefore take responsibility of those choices. He will receive the sentence that he deserves.
Thank you, you saved me a lot of typing.
Mobdaro, well said
Why didn't the mother protect her son, that's her only job.
I do feel sorry for his mom.
Mother's and father's must be responsible for caring for their children. Obviously, she failed. Too many crazy people rearing crazy kids.
Don't feel sorry for her. She did not protect him when he was young, and she didn't help him get the help he needed as an adut for his injuries. She is as evil as the people who abused him to stand by and do nothing and now cry fowl.
I don't
I vote no mercy! Mom should have been a better mother and protected her child. That is a mother and father's responsibility. If the mom or dad is bad, the other parent better protect their kids.
Too bad he had a bad childhood. Too bad mom didn't protect him. Not OK to turn him loose on society to kill innocent people. She should have cared about what was happening to her child a long, long time ago! Too bad, so sad!
I'm not trying to blow my own horn here. But, my wife took off on my son and I. I have decided to have NO women in my life until he's out of the house and in college, because I'm not going to bring potential problems around. Single parents, my advice, deny yourself for the sake of your children.
Agree Drew! I did the same thing when my ex-husband ran off with a 20 year old! There was no way I was bringing some nut into the household at the expense of my daughter. All of my time, money, and efforts went into raising my daughter properly. I don't regret a minute of it!
Awesome, Drew - more women for the rest of us!
Seriously, though - good job keeping your priorities right. They aren't kids for very long.
The sentence he deserves is Death. BERMA SHAVE
Obama will pardon him just for the photo op.....
Get real! What is your problem sore loser!
No thanks, I'd rather just call you an idiot.

Damn Billy, your originality is just mind boggling.
Wow Billy , how original. Go back to sleep.
Jesse and Rev, Al have not been around to OK the pardon. Wrong C___R
Interesting that parents of serious criminals almost always make excuses for them. Also, they have been making excuses for them their whole lives; with teachers, police, judges, etc. Interesting pattern I've seen it a lot.
Now this Mother realizes what the Victim's mothers feel like; only their children (adults) were not crazy! The tax payers have wasted enough on this piece of work; away with him for good!
We all feel her pain.
But it's time for him to feel his.
Awwwww. I feel so BAD for the poor guy ! <sniff !>
He just copied John Wayne Gacy (offer jobs and kill them). How many more dead bodies are out there they didn't find? With his age he will most likely die before he is executed, with all the appeals.
well not a complete copy because John Wayne Gacy raped his victims before he killed them. I do get what your saying and for the most part yes it is a copy.
