Washington Post photographer Melina Mara captured McCain playing poker on his phone during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Syria. The Senator tweeted about the incident later, owning up to his blunder and joking "worst of all, I lost!"
Sen. John McCain doesn’t have a very good poker face.
Washington Post photographer Melina Mara snapped a photo of the Arizona Republican playing online poker on his cellphone at Tuesday’s Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Syria.
McCain quickly addressed the photo via Twitter, admitting he had been caught red-handed.
Scandal! Caught playing iPhone game at 3+ hour Senate hearing - worst of all I lost!— John McCain (@SenJohnMcCain) September 3, 2013
The more than three-hour long meeting included testimony from top-ranking government officials including Secretary of State John Kerry, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey.
President Barack Obama announced Saturday that he would seek Congress’ approval for a limited strike in Syria.
McCain has pressed for American intervention in the conflict but Wednesday told NBC News that he doesn't support the Senate's more limited authorization to use force.
"In its current form, I do not" support the new draft of the resolution, McCain said. It prohibits combat operations on the ground and limits the time frame for the president to use force.
