'Big jolt' as two planes clip wings at Miami airport

    By Christina Hernandez, NBCMiami.com

Two planes clipped at Miami International Airport Thursday, but there were no injuries from the incident, a MIA spokeswoman said.

An inbound Aerolineas Argentinas Airbus A340 arriving from Buenos Aires clipped an outbound Air France Boeing 777 that was parked at the gate, said Maria Elena Levrant of the Miami-Dade Aviation Department.

Air France Flight 695 was preparing to depart with 350 passengers for Paris.

"It was just like a big jolt, and then shaking, and then it stopped," passenger Bente Densen said.

Looking out their windows, the passengers saw part of their plane's wing destroyed. Emergency crews flooded the scene.

The Aerolineas Argentinas aircraft was taxiing to a gate when the collision occured in the ramp area near Gate H-10 at 5 p.m., Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said.

The flight to France was cancelled.

"They didn't send nobody to tell us something. We're just standing here and waiting and waiting and waiting," Valentino Hutu said.

Aerolineas Argentinas Flight 1304 had 240 passengers on board.

Levrant said the planes did not touch each other at a high speed. Passengers said they heard and felt quite an impact, however.

"Boom. We knew something happened," Teva Benshlomo said.

The Air France passengers were going to be put on a different flight going to France, Levrant said.

Some people played games to pass the time, while employees rushed to try and figure out how to get the hundreds of passengers where they wanted to go.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating, Levrant said.

The airport set a record for the most passenger and cargo traffic last year, with 39.5 million passengers and 2.1 million tons of cargo.

Just last month, a Spirit Airlines aircraft clipped a parked US Airways jet at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

So the headline says "Two jets collide at Miami airport" You read the article to find out that one plane clipped wings with another parked airplane at low speed. I think that's called sensationalizing to get you to read the article.
