Miami-Dade cops caught on camera allegedly ignoring emergency calls

    View more videos at: http://nbcmiami.com.

    By Myriam Masihy, NBCMiami.com

A group of Miami-Dade police officers was disciplined following a 2010 internal affairs investigation, police documents showed.

Five police officers and one sergeant with the Kendall squad were allegedly caught on camera ignoring emergency dispatch calls.

The video, obtained by NBC 6 South Florida, shows incidents like one on Oct. 5, 2010 where Officer Dario Socarras apparently ignored a residential burglary call and chose to meet a woman at the Dadeland Mall parking lot.

The video shows the officer hugging and kissing the woman in what the police investigation calls a public display of affection.

That is classified as departmental misconduct or conduct unbecoming of an officer, according to police.

A little later that day, Officer Socarras, Officer Jose Huerta and their Sergeant Jennifer Gonzalez were videotaped drinking coffee at a Casa Larios when an emergency call came in with an alert about an unconscious 5-month-old, police said in investigation records obtained by NBC 6.

Socarras was dispatched to the scene and despite being with his sergeant, he continued drinking his coffee. Nine minutes later he was cleared from the call, according to police.

Moments later the dispatcher asked Socarras to check out a signal 37, or a suspicious vehicle. He said in a radio transmission that he was en route, but investigators said it took him 25 minutes to respond.

At the end of the investigation, Sgt. Gonzalez and officers Socarras, Huerta, Ivan Tomas, Fabian Owens and Jeffrey Price all received a relief of duty memorandum dated Dec. 28, 2010.

    Read more from NBCMiami.com

Officer Socarras, who was also accused of doctoring reports to reflect that he had responded to the calls, wrote a memo to his lieutenant saying that at no time did he intentionally violate departmental rules or regulations.

Socarras, Huerta and Gonzalez have been fired by the Miami-Dade Police Department, according to the internal affairs report. Several more officers have been disciplined and some were expected to appeal their punishment.

The Dade County Police Benevolent Association said it was waiting for the disciplinary process to conclude before it comments, and Miami-Dade Police said it was not commenting on the investigation.

Miami-Dade resident Jeff Bretzer said he was upset that some officers were not upholding their duty to protect and serve.

"If I have a reason to call the police and they're not that responsive or if they weren't in a timely fashion, it just wouldn't be much use," he said.

But Bretzer said he was pleased the Miami-Dade Police Department looked into officers' responsiveness.

"You want to think that they are going to be doing something to correct the problem that is going on," he said.

This isnt just in dade County. Cops are working just like the rest of us. They clock in and out like the rest of us. It's called slacking on the job.

Fake cops trying to rob heroin gang caught 'red-handed' in DEA sting

    NBC New York

A Bronx robbery crew posing as police officers planned to rob a heroin distribution ring Wednesday but walked into a Drug Enforcement Administration sting operation instead, law enforcement officials said. The crew were armed with guns, fake police vests and shirts.

    By Jonathan Dienst, NBCNewYork.com

NEW YORK — A robbery crew posing as police officers planned to rob a heroin distribution ring Wednesday but walked into a Drug Enforcement Administration sting operation instead, law enforcement officials said.

Using informants, DEA agents were able to infiltrate the Bronx gang which planned to carry out the drug deal rip-off and arrest the 16 suspected gangsters. The crew, allegedly led by Javion "King Kong" Camacho, were armed with guns, fake police vests and shirts.

Prosecutors said Camacho boasted to an informant that the "wolves are hungry" and that he liked the sound of "the job." In addition to recordings, investigators said there were text messages about the plot.

DEA agents said the suspects were set to carry out the holdup using a caravan of six cars, guns, ski masks, police T-shirts and a police scanner. Camacho admitted he was caught "red-handed," according to court papers.

"As alleged, this was a marauding gang of armed and violent thieves in the Bronx who masqueraded as police officers in order to trick their narcotics-dealing targets so they could steal their drugs and their cash," U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said.

Others arrested and charged include Gary Sanchez, Ramon Jiminez, Victor Morel and Joshua Roman. The suspects were expected to be arraigned in Manhattan federal court late Thursday.

Attorney information on the suspects was not immediately available.

So let me get this right, the DEA setup a sting to nab thieves posing as cops who had intentions of robbing drug dealers? Seems to me that instead of using the tax payers money to setup a fake sting, why not setup real drug dealers with the fake cops, let the fake cops take down the real drug dealer …

Off-duty Massachusetts cops caught after egging superior's house

    By Mark Stevenson, NBC News

To serve, protect and … vandalize?

    Follow @NBCNewsUS

Three Newton, Mass., police officers were caught by fellow men in blue in Framingham last month after they had egged a house, the MetroWest Daily News reported.

The victim? A Newton police sergeant.

The action took place in the wee hours of Dec. 11, the Daily News reported. Officers responding to a report of “teenagers” egging a house saw two people drive away in a red car, according to the Daily News.

The driver confessed after the car was pulled over but said the egging was “a prank – a joke between friends,” the Daily News quoted a Framingham police spokesman as saying.

The third off-duty Newton officer was picked up as police headed to the house to talk with the homeowner, the Daily News reported.

The eggers were not identified, and no charges have been filed. The eggee said he would handle the incident as an internal police department matter, according to the Daily News.

'Wasn't the best thing I had ever done': Ex-traffic cop in porn flick fights for job

A California traffic cop who was fired after appearing in a porn film while on duty and in uniform is trying to get his job back. KNBC-TV's Joel Grover reports.

By NBC News and msnbc.com staff

A former Los Angeles traffic officer said he was “totally unaware” when he was asked to appear in a porn movie while on duty and in uniform last year and now wants his job back.

“I was caught totally unaware, by surprise,” John Dancler said during his appeal to the Los Angeles Civil Service Commission on Wednesday.

Dancler was fired in July 2011 in the wake of an NBC4 investigation, which showed him and another traffic officer in a porn movie while on duty and in uniform, NBCLosAngeles.com reported.

“I could not believe what was going on, it was really surreal,” Dancler said during the hearing.

The NBC4 porn investigation went viral around the world last spring. The NBC4 team also uncovered a longstanding pattern of traffic officers who were convicted of crimes on the job, including soliciting prostitutes and shoplifting, but none had ever been disciplined, as recommended by city policy.

Dancler said he was responding to a call for backup help in 2008 when a porn actress and her crew approached him, asking him to engage in lewd acts with the blonde woman.

Dancler admitted under questioning he had made a mistake.

"It wasn’t the best thing that I had ever done," Dancler said.

When asked if he informed others about the exchange on the streets, Dancler said “No.”

Once again the weak minded media cant seem to gather basic facts on a story. This person has never been a "cop", policeman or Law Enforcement of any kind as the story states.

Mom calls cops on her bickering teens

    By Rita Rubin

Fed up with her bickering kids, a Salem, Mass., mom called upon the cops to arrest the oldest two, who are teens. “I want them both out of here,” she told police on Monday evening.

Granted, it’s an extreme move, but who among us has never, ever fantasized about doing it?

I’m not saying I’d ever actually act upon that fantasy, but I do feel for the woman. Maybe Monday was the final day of her children’s winter break, and she — and they — just couldn’t stand all that togetherness a minute longer.

According to the local paper, she’s a single mom with five kids. The two oldest are a girl, 16, and a boy, 15. The story gets a little murky: Were the kids fighting before she left the home to do errands, or did they start fighting while she was out?

The woman apparently did get part of her wish — her son will be summoned to court for punching his 8-year-old sister. However, the police also notified the state Department of Children and Families about what’s going on in that home.

Do you think this woman was out-of-line when she asked the cops to help her control her kids?
