Two teens shot dead in California park; two others wounded

    By Sarah Grieco, NBCSanDiego.com

Four teenagers were involved in a shooting at an Oceanside, Calif., park Wednesday, according to police. Two of the teenagers were found with gunshot wounds and two were dead, investigators said.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. at Libby Lake Park in the city near the Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base.

Oceanside Police received multiple calls of shots fired at 8:50 p.m. They scoured the park and found one person shot and injured.

A couple of minutes later they found two other people shot and killed, then another person shot and injured in the same general area. At least of the two victims were shot more than once, officials said.

Witnesses said they saw several people running from the scene.

Officers are looking for two or more suspects, possibly in a gray or silver 2005 or 2006 Toyota Tacoma or Toyota Tundra extended-cab pickup.

Edgar Sanchez Rios, 16, and 13-year-old Melanie Virgen were found dead at the scene. The two wounded victims are also younger than 18 and were taken to Palomar Medical Center.

    More news from NBCSanDiego.com

Melanie was an 8th-grade student at Caesar Chavez Middle School and Edgar was a student at El Camino High School. Friends and family created a makeshift memorial at the park for the victims.

“The things that happen in this park startle me to death,” said Lt. Leonard Cosby of Oceanside Police Department. “It shouldn’t be happening.”

This shooting took place not far from a memorial in the park for a fatal shooting that occurred here just under two years ago.

The bodies of Fernando Felix Solano, 16, and Sandra Salgado, 14, were found May 3, 2011, in the northeast area of the park, which is located north of the San Luis Rey River.

The residential area is near several schools, including Libby Lake Elementary.

“I don’t want it to be a reflection on either the people in this park or the city of Oceanside, because it’s not that way,” Cosby said.

Cosby said his heart goes out to the community because he has worked a majority of his 26 years in the area.

The victim's friends are pleading for any new information of a suspect.

"If you know anything, please say something," said the victims' friend Efrain Almanaz. "We don't want more lives getting killed."

Peter Robbins looks towards the judge during his arraignment at the San Diego County Superior Court of Califorrnia in January 2013.

Peter Robbins, 56, used to voice act for the “Peanuts” television series when he was a child. He is accused of threatening his ex-girlfriend and the plastic surgeon who performed her breast enhancement surgery.

The Oceanside resident faces multiple felony charges, including stalking and making deadly threats.

Robbins’ lawyer asked that his bail be reduced to $50,000 and that his status as a flight risk be removed. The defense said he has “strong ties to the community” and frequently participates in volunteer activities.

But prosecutors claimed that Robbins poses a safety risk.

When prosecutors alleged that Robbins threatened to kill a surgeon, he spoke out of turn.

    “That’s incorrect,” Robbins said.

He was quickly silenced by officials.

“You don’t need to talk right now,” said the judge. “You just listen or you’re out of here.”

Prosecutors also claimed he threatened to kill other people in the past, had recently been arrested in Mexico for smoking marijuana and claimed he had attempted to contact his ex-girlfriend.

“What has started to come to light is extremely erratic and aggressively and confrontational behavior,” said prosecutors. “It’s very difficult to find out where the truth lies with this man,”

The judge kept Robbins’ bail at $550,000 and he could face up to nine years in prison if convicted.

Gunman fails three times to carjack drivers in same Calif. parking lot

By Monica Garske, NBC San Diego

A man attempted to carjack three different victims in the same southern California shopping center parking lot on Thursday, authorities said.

According to police, the carjacking attempts happened around 2:50 p.m. PT (5:50 p.m. ET) in the parking lot of a Target store in Oceanside, between San Diego and Los Angeles.

In the first attempt, the suspect allegedly approached a woman as she was exiting her car. He showed her what she believed was a knife and ordered her back into the vehicle. She got inside and drove away, leaving the suspect behind, police said.

The man then immediately approached another woman exiting her car in the lot. Police said he brandished a handgun and told her to get back inside her car.

The victim ignored the suspect and ran into the Target store to report the attempted carjacking.

Police said the man then approached a third woman in the same parking lot who was getting out of her car.

He attempted to steal her vehicle at gunpoint, ordering her to remove the club device from her steering wheel and leave her keys in the car.

If they let you out of jail, don't steal a car on your way out

The victim complied, removed the club and left the keys in the car. Before walking away, she activated some sort of kill-switch that disabled the ignition.

The man tried to start the car, but instead became locked inside the vehicle.

He smashed through a window to get out and fled the scene, police said.

None of the three victims was injured.

Police searched the area for the suspect, but were unable to locate him. He remains at large.

Officers describe the suspect as a white male in his 40s to 60s with a thin build and “leathery” skin.

He was carrying a black backpack and was described by witnesses as transient in his appearance. He wore a blue denim jacket, pink shirt and blue jeans.

This clown should consider another profession, he's to stupid to be a carjacker.
